    I see none of the questions are being answered....but i'll ask mine.....what is the process if i wanted to re-seal an already completed seam... more specifically, the roof ends/edges..

    THe electric company threw away a bunch of this stuff and i brought home a lot of it, not knowing quite what I would do with it. I think I'll make a floor for a greenhouse and the runway for the r/c airplanes now that I know how to stick it together. Just need to figure how to hold it down when it gets windy.

    thats all very well on the smallest roof known to man!! Ive got to cover a roof over 40' long and 15' wide. It aint going to go like this demo, to be homest that demo aint much use for anything bigger than a small shed size. Different product for me i think.

    Where you have a rooflight involved, is it easier to have the membrane in two pieces and join them, as shown here?

    • @plytechukltd3475
      @plytechukltd3475 3 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Hi David, joining the membrane is an option and can make the job easier. However any join in the membrane is best avoided if at all possible as any additional joins or cuts can create an area of failure (especially if an installer is new to techniques).

    It seems that the primer is a thin adhesive. why is the tape (additional layer of rubber and two extra layers of adhesive) needed? Everyone does it this way, but i dont understand why. the cost difference is very large, so there must be a reason why adhesive alone does not work for EPDM membranes.

    Hi Stuart, Sorry about that but we would have been in the way of the camera if we were on the roof. It's actually easier to do from in front of the detail if you are not filming. Hopefully you would have scaffolding to help anyway. 😀

      Hi, when adding fascia/trim detail to cover the area below the coping and above the roof, would it be a terrible idea to screw into the EPRM on the inside edge in order to secure the fascia? E.g., would that cause a rip in the EPDM down the road? I'd rather use butyl caulk, but I don't think it will hold-up long term. I would of course tuck it under the coping and use self sealing screws. And, is screwing through this type of flashing tape at the edge even worse or no different? Thanks much.

    As a building envelope consultant of 35 years I can't take this video seriously because attaching a membrane to OSB is just about the dumbest thing in the world. You have to use Quality Base materials that when they get wet will not turn into oatmeal

    • @macsmith6216
      @macsmith6216 ปีที่แล้ว

      Then you don’t have a clue what your talking about OSB3 is designed for this and EPDM manufacturers approve this OSB3 is waterproof

      Hello Deputy, can you tell us what "should" be used instead of OSB3? If a waterproofing layer has failed, nothing cost effective is going to mitigate water ingress except a second waterproofing layer...

    • @plytechukltd3475
      @plytechukltd3475 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi, Yes the rubber can be adhered to brick or concrete using solvent adhesive. The flashing tapes can be adhered to most other materials also using the butyl primer for flashing tapes. I hope that this helps. Regards Marc

  • @daveandrewsmay745
    @daveandrewsmay745 2 ปีที่แล้ว

    Having call backs on ply techs corner tape, their primer is too thin, the tape isn't flexible enough and doesn't bond properly. Never had this problem with firestone corner tape and primer but stockist switched to ply tech, guessing cos it's cheaper. It's annoying cos it's costing me money and makes my work look bad

    • @plytechukltd3475
      @plytechukltd3475 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi Dave, Sorry to hear that you have been having issues with the tape / primer combo. We have not had any other reports of this and our tape works very well in most other scenarios. Could I ask where you bought the tape / primer as there is a shelf life on these products (after 12 months the tapes can become harder to stretch as they cure over time). If we know where this was purchased we can make sure that the stockist has products that are in date. Kind Regards Marc

    Can't you cut the rubber on the internal corners? And use the tape to make an internal corner or is folding the rubber the only way?

    • @plytechukltd3475
      @plytechukltd3475 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi fudgewaa, You could cut the rubber in the internal corners but any extra cut is a potential for a leak. My preference would always be to have fewer cuts if possible. As the EPDM is very flexible it is quite easy to fold into the internal corners, however I would advise checking that no factory welds fall into the internal corner as the rubber can become thicker in these sections. Hope this helps.

    Next time use more rubber, and cover the top of the wall and curb. Leak disaster if you think the cap metal will keep water from penetrating, or disallow condensation.
