Personally I don't think that you should have a dog of that size in a fishing kayak. I have a 16.5 foot alumacraft that my Boxer dog Udo will never be in. No place for a dog zero shelter from the sun and way to many hooks around. If you must have your dog out at least get them a PFD.

I have a leash on mine at all times so that doesn’t happen. Did that the 1st day. Another item I use is the styrofoam rod floats so if one gets knocked off the kayak or a fish should pull the rod out of my hands it will eventually surface somewhere when the fish tires out from pulling it around. I have tested them by dropping my rod and reel in the water and it stays on the surface. I also put the foam from air conditioner Freon lines on the handle of my net so it too will float if knocked off the kayak.

I catch bigger fish in December through February on Table Rock as on February 25th of 2023 I caught an 8 pound 12 ounce largemouth in the Kimberling City area from my Perception Pescador Pilot 12.0 when it was 40 degrees both air and water surface temperatures using a deep diving crankbait I painted myself the night before. Was only on the water 15 minutes and the 4th cast when it was caught too. I’m still trying for a 10 pounder myself as I know they exist there.

That was a huge lrg mouth crappie...yup ol' paper mouth. Yes sir we're practically cousins. Both run old town's bump'n music with the dog for a challenge. M'mmm hmm takes skill to be a walleye man. I grew up in Missouri but moved to Fayetteville chasing them whopper ploppers, bar flukes, chatterbabes , ramp lizards doing drop shots. then shaky head that hollow body frog with skeeter and Bobby garland on livescope..but I'm old now slow trolling my medium heavy for fast action or a three way swivel in a Alabama rig with a gal who looked like a sun dolphin hit with a ugly stick. I used to fineness trophies , real keepers bagging limits. using Shakespeare pitching strong lines...a real b.asspro with proficiency. A party thug I could rattle a trap Serving that fish scale.
