I have a confession, I love my bug. My 2001 beetle has it's problems but it also is one of my favorite cars to drive. I feel that a person should enjoy getting into any vehicle they own. It should make you smile, it should get you out into the world. My beetle does that for me. I hope your car does that for you whatever you drive. Get out there and explore and be safe.
Water Pump And Belt replaced in New Beetle. Problems I had with 2.0 engine. #johnhasabug #newbeetle
Replacing the water pump and belt took me several tries. I was able to finally get it done and it helped the car sound and drive better. I even got better MPG! I hope that stays that way for awhile.

Looking at these myself on ebay for my 01 TDI beetle as my plastic onebis barely hanging on and these are cheaper than a new one from VW
They are very nice to have I think. I was always worried about hitting things and this has helped. I think it helps on gas mileage too. Only a little harder to do an oil change.
How did it come out? Success?
@@wizbang16 it worked out great. I should have done it sooner. The plastic pump was broken so it needed to be done. Car heats up inside a lot better too.
What wire did you use for brake/running light??
Engine swap incoming! You should. It would probably be the only one.
It would be kind of fun to do. But I want to get my bus done more.
Oh, that are lot of work! How many time took to replace one side?
It wasn’t too bad. I’m moving slow so a couple hours.
Thank you for this video John! I have the same car in Argentina. The light bulbs are also clear and gives a clean aspect.
I’ve always wanted to go to Argentina. Thanks for the comment.
Both of them are wore out . Time for a new set.
Let us know when you figure it out
It was totally the part that was the rattle. Replaced that and the shock and it’s like new.
The mount is deffinitely bad, but change both, and both sides for a proper repair. 30 year master tech . Then sell it. Those cars are not good cars . Hard to work on and expensive parts.
Thanks. Would you get a cheap one on rockauto or a better one. I was looking at kyb mount and shocks. I’m planning on keeping the beetle. Thanks again!
I ran into some the other week i was gonna get an extractor set but i just hammered a torx socket in them and they came right out.
Sadly the hammer trick didn’t work for me. I was able to extract them. Thanks for commenting!
Bolt Extractor. The spiral cone-like ones. Just put the one that fits the tightest in the hole and crack em loose
I was able to drill them out and use an extractor to finally get them out. Took awhile. Thanks for commenting. And reminding me of that tool.
Hello, "JohnHasABug" I saw your channel and saw that in your channel have some problems, not many. For these problems your channel is not growing. If you can solve these problems, Your channel will grow like a storm. Do you want to know these problem? If you Want to know, I can only tell to you. Can I tell here or email?
Same problem here fella, have you figured it out yet? I could use some advice please
Sadly I never got it to work as someone broke the camera off before I figured it out. Sorry
Noooooo! In the passenger side trunk is a large round plastic plug for access to the rear light assembly, find that cable and tug on it, the fuel door will pop open. I’ve been doing that for 15 years.
I’ll have to take a look for that. Thanks!
Hi, where did you get the brackets for the air vents ?
@@eliaspeschke4173 it came in the kit. If I remember right I ended up super gluing them in.
@@JohnHasABug ah okay thx. They are Not included in my Set thats the Problem Right now
@@eliaspeschke4173 if you look at the one you are replacing you probably could use the stock ones.

@@eliaspeschke4173 not sure what you mean. I used a star screwdriver and a hack saw. Not sure it was right but worked for me. Glad you were able to print the part.
2 things could be cabin filter or leak from door take door card off then undo the bottom bolts pry a little and put some tiger seal on and bolt it up not tight then 2 hour later tighten it up all the way
I’ll look at that. Thanks
Does it have a sunroof
It does but I thought if that was leaking it would show up behind this area.
@@JohnHasABugThe drainage through the a pillars sometimes get leaky. Had the same issue with a golf iv
I have the same problem but on the passenger side, dont really know what to do anymore. I think it hás something to do with the door rubber
@@luistavares2424 it’s weird because it’s been pretty dry for awhile here in Montana. I’ll have to check the door rubber. I haven’t done that yet. Thanks.
I was hoping for a video that would show a non mechanical person step by step instructions on how to change my rear speakers. I can't do the job if you only show me bits and pieces of who it's done. You already have one panel removed and the other you stop recording until it's out. I am going to start making real videos of my own. I'm a 70 year old widow not a car mechanic but most videos assume you know too much.
I’m not sure what more I can show. I didn’t show me lifting it out of the car but I did show what you need to do to remove the rear panel. If I remember correctly the rear seat moves around a bit to make it easier to remove the panel. Sorry you didn’t find my video helpful.

Option #3 because my 99 is the same way
Using number 3 as my winter tires. What color is your 99?
It is different the exhaust bolts to the heads
You are right. I used the bolts from the 350/headers. They are much shorter than the stock exhaust bolts.
@JohnHasABug yes sir, u need the longer manifold bolts. FYI a factory 305 head will not accept any other sbc exhaust manifold has a different bolt pattern an exhaust port placement.
Yes that is normal
@@stevehilligoss4982 you are awesome! I was worried. Thanks for commenting and easing my mind.
@@JohnHasABug just make sure you get the proper gear oil in there.
Don't be afraid to add a 1/2 of a qt extra on top of recommended fluid capacity. Been doing it for over 30 years and everyone who has taken my advice has had longer lasting bearings and seals.
Thanks!
@@SmoothBrain23 do you have a brand you like best? Thanks!

Yes to the newer style console. Much better cup holders.
People underestimate the small TDI. What they don't realise is you can tow heavily though the mountains with ease. My 1.9 did more than the capacity.
They are amazing cars.
So i have a new thermostat im putting in but it doesn't sit inside by itself am i putting something in incorrectly? If you can help that'd be great
Make sure the old o ring is out? You don’t want two. If that’s not your problem then it might be you just need to be clean it a bit more. There isn’t much of a lip for it to sit on. Good luck!

😅😅. Bravo ooo
Did you connect to the reversing/backup line behind the radio? That is the trigger function to switch to camera. Typically its a brown wire with a label reverse for us here.
I’m pretty sure I did when I installed it. Sadly it’s been awhile. I did some troubleshooting and couldn’t figure it out. Then sadly the camera broke off. So it’s not going to be fixed anytime soon. Thanks for the comment. Hopefully it will help someone else out.
Apart from connecting to the "back" or "reverse" signal wire on the back of the head unit, you should also connect the signal wire on the RCA cable at the back to the reverse light power.
Did you get heat after the car warmed up?
Yep. I finally have heat. I also think the cooling is better. Seems like it runs better too.
