    Eh, I don't know if I agree and I think you're looking at the past with rose-tinted glasses. There's always been shovelware, rushed and broken games and massive disappointments. I really wonder what era people are talking about when they claim that gaming used to be higher quality. I don't think that time exists. Since the Atari 2600 days, every single generation had a ton of trashy games, even more mediocre games that are fun in the moment but ultimately forgettable and then some stand-out hits. It's just that there was an overall lower quantity for the most part and people wouldn't move on from the greats so quickly. We have a lot of great games today as well. On top of loads of mediocrity and trash. But you can bet that 10 years from now people will say this was when games were still great. Because of nostalgia and because we obviously allocate more of our brain space and attention in the long-term discourse to the stuff that's actually worth remembering. Also, good luck telling people to 'hold developers accountable'. The stuff you're complaining about, including the power held by shareholders, wouldn't be happening if people didn't just keep buying stuff even if they've been complaining about it. Call of Duty has been called slop for over a decade, people have begged for them to stop the yearly releases and give the teams more time to actually deliver a well-polished product with some innovation, yet people don't just buy the games, they spend tons of money on DLCs and microtransactions throughout the year. And evidently you're part of the problem. EA has been clowned on for over a decade, even voted the worst company in America a few times. And I don't think there's been a renaissance big enough to make up for that. Yet you bought Jedi Survivor and I'm gonna guess that's not the only one you own. And won't be the last. As soon as the next game comes along that looks good in marketing material or is part of a franchise you really care about, you're gonna cave and buy it, no matter the dev's or publisher's track record, no matter how much you now say you want to keep them accountable. And then you're gonna complain after the fact if it sucks and then rinse and repeat. Unless games are consistently bad, so worse than mediocre, which a lot of the games people complain about aren't even really, they won't flop enough to put a dent in anything. Boycotts don't work. People just don't care enough and don't have impulse control. Remember the 360-era Modern Warfare 2 PC boycotts that had a majority of those signing up for it play the game on day 1? Remember the Left 4 Dead 2 one where the same thing happened? Remember how much people complain about Pokemon every single gen, yet that franchise still is THE most successful media franchise in the world? There's plenty more examples. I'm not exempt from all this. Of course I also complain sometimes and then buy and/or play things anyway. But I'm honest with myself about that. And I know how much nostalgia and bias can cloud my judgement and that, even if it feels that way sometimes, and even if there's a lot these days that pisses me off about gaming, on average things are about as good/bad as they always were.

      @@Pandsu this is what I wanted, a conversation. Have I been guilty of buying shit games in the past? I have, but that doesn’t mean we as players have any less of a voice. The reason I bring this up is we are in a generation where games take almost an entire generation to make. We gamers are part of the problem because we want bigger and better. Developers see this and try to accommodate our wants with mixed results. So the question now is, are we ultimately to blame? Is this a cultural problem of wanting more and looking past mediocrity? Or do devs (and by extension the companies they work for) share the blame?

    Quality should always be a standart in my opinion and I definitely agree with you. At least from bit AAA coorperate studios who have a lot of money, the bar should be set high

      @veteran_gaming2698 12 วันที่ผ่านมา

      I agree. However, a good point was brought up. Unless we refuse to buy games that are lack luster, nothing changes. We need to show development companies that quality reins supreme!
