Old-school BMW 500hp feel: Where does it come from?
Classic BMWs from the '80s and '90s felt incredibly powerful despite having much less horsepower than modern cars, thanks to a combination of engineering choices that enhanced the driving experience. Their lightweight design, responsive inline-six engines, and smart gearing created a sensation of speed and agility. I like this four door version. To my mind it looks better than the two door.
You are not so far off, the start point for the XJ40 was a XJS like front end, however the rear lost the buttresses and was 6 light of the XJ40 with less pronounced hump than the XJ4 (XJ6/12). It looked quite good but the negativity towards the XJS led them away from it, now of course the XJS looks really good hard to imagine the hostility towards it for not looking like an E type.
