      The wheel in this video is a hard cotton wheel. However, the wheel isn’t the key to this system. It’s the sharpening compound that really does the work. The compound is formulated to melt from the heat generated by pressing the tool into the rotating wheel. Although the Nora Hall System does make quick work of sharpening v-groove tools, I have not made a video on sharpening v-groove tools specifically. Thanks for watching and commenting.

    Hiya, this may sound an odd question, but what is the patent number for this ?. I only a few days ago discovered this tool even existed. About four years ago I made something similar for burring my negative rake scrapers and it's similar, but at the same time quite different. I recently came up with a way to significantly improve it and thought I'd start making & selling them. In the process of trying to find a supplier for burnishing rods I found this and kinda shattered my plans.

      @CroakyOak thank you very much for responding and that explains why I couldn't find a patent for Veritas. I'm in the UK and I can only find one company that actually sells this tool & they're out of stock. PS, I developed my tool with negative rake scrappers in mind which largely uses shallower Bevel angles and would ride up that cone burnisher even more. Mine doesn't suffer that problem. I've also incorporated a fulcrum, but mine is adjustable instead of fixed to better incorporate different scrapper profiles . Thank you again for responding and happy new year!.

    How do you over winter them in the Pots? So you let them just stay outside? Or do you bring them in to a garage?

    • @CroakyOak
      @CroakyOak 3 หลายเดือนก่อน

      I don’t have any place to put my plants, so they all have to stay outside. If I don’t insulate the pots -the rest of the plant remains exposed- most of the varieties I’ve tried have not survived the winter. When I’ve grouped the potted plants together and surrounded the pots with mulched leaves, nearly everything survives. Protecting potted blueberry plants from the cold is only part of the deal. Varmints, especially rabbits, can decimate unprotected blueberry plants. I’ve had rabbits get past fencing and eat younger plants right down to the ground. Good luck with your blueberries and thanks for watching and commenting.

    Thank you so much for this. I'm new to turning and have been frustrated with every cup I've made being slightly off center. This fixed all my problems, you're awesome.

    File the other direction. Leaves no burr.

      Could you explain more what you mean please? I'm completely new to all of this😅

    • @bottmar1
      @bottmar1 5 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @astrid5870. Whenever you file, disc sand, belt sand or grind a new edge lt is usually better to have the edge towards you while use your tool of choice away from you. Otherwise you are rolling a thin section of metal over that has to be removed on the other side of the blade. That rolled metal is called a burr. This applies to knife sharpening too. With filing you may not get much of a burr but filing is only good for blades that have no stone nicks or damage. I usually grind my blades by clamping the blade in a vice so that the edge is pointed up and then grind with a 4 1/2" Harbor Freight electric grinder with sparks flying down. You can see the edge the whole time you are grinding and know immediately when to stop removing metal. Those grinders are as little as $15 and the stones are as little as $1 a piece. All the other methods I see on TH-cam are either harder to do or more costly. After 54 years at metal working in businesses and in my own auto repair shop I am not new to proper procedures on blade sharpening. I hope this helps.

    This was satisfying to watch. I especially liked when the curls of aluminum were flowing out of the drill bit sides.

    • @CroakyOak

      I agree! Watching metal chips spiral off a drill bit *is* enjoyable to watch. Cleaning up the mess is less fun though. 🙂 Thanks for watching and commenting.

    From what it sounds like - so long as you have a proper grip in the chuck, you can machine metal on a wood lathe. It just seems that you may want a different style of tool holder
