Hux is actually consistent when you actually watch the films and read the source material. He was probably the only thing right about the last 2 films. He was already on his last straw with Snoke for losing Starkiller base and had a petty rivalry with Kylo Ren which is pretty obvious in the first film.

Such a joke of a character, and he's supposed to be one of the scary bad guys. Terrible writing.

Hux been thrown around by snoke and ren makes sense. Making an example out of him and in character for kylo but making it a joke ruined him. If it had been treated in a terrifying and serious route it would have been perfect
