why you should watch short films
มุมมอง 4.3K2 ปีที่แล้ว
Lately I’ve found myself drawn more and more to what feels like an incredibly underappreciated area of cinema, the short film. A format that, over the past few years, I have found to be more diverse, exciting and interesting than feature films. In this video I list my reasons for why I feel that short films should be watched, and hopefully convince a few viewers to seek out and give the little ...
a video about yasujiro ozu's post-war film style
มุมมอง 1.6K2 ปีที่แล้ว
Yasujiro Ozu is a Japanese filmmaker whose films are widely regarded as some of the best ever made. This video is a small breakdown of his post-war style, which is the style that he is most well known for. (Note: Ozu isn’t studied enough, he should be studied more). I would have loved to have done a video about the evolution of his style leading up to his post-war style but the time investment ...
what is slow cinema?
มุมมอง 22K3 ปีที่แล้ว
slow cinema is a very broad arthouse film movement that is, in a lot of ways, hard to define. in this video essay i study four films that can be considered a part of the movement in an attempt to define or at least find similarities/characteristics that films which are a part of this movement share. and also try to answer whether they are a response to the fast paced and unambiguous nature of c...

portraying power in film
มุมมอง 5143 ปีที่แล้ว
how do you show the difference in power (or class) between two characters without explicitly stating it to the audience? is it possible to look at a shot, without any context, and know who holds the power in the scene? in this video we look at the different ways to do this with examples from films. music provided by youtube's own audio library: Bach Cello Suite No. 1, G Major, Prelude - Cooper ...

Cuts between events are done for a reason. Or else it is similar to speaking without pauses inbetween words. If art house films just act as a rebel against commercial (true) cinema, you have to brain wash yourself to pseudo enjoy it.

Good video. I think since you didn't talk much about the plot of this movie that if you would've not included the gunshot at the end it would've been essentially spoiler free

The director and writer is dead from suicide :we are not sure why he killid himself only that he would certainly not have survived in Holywood UNLESS He made some big and serious psyche changes !!! ? Bela Tarr presented the film in Paris ? Hubo committed suicide and the story is enough to make your tear !

I'm currently writing a thesis for my upcoming exam where I compare stillness and motion in photo versus films and I really enjoyed learning more about slow cinema from your video. I already researched a bit about the genre before diving into your video and it consolidated my knowledge. Thanks Brandon!

Nice analysis. There is a kind of digital realism that made me emotional while watching Aftersun. Gives the feeling that I am watching a vlog that I made years ago and feeling nostalgic about its imperfections.

The style of camerawork in this film reminds me of the film Son of Saul about the Somderkommando in Auschwitz, where a lot of the action happens in the background out of focus, while keeping the main character in the foreground in focus. I believe both that director and Bo took inspiration from Bela Tarr, who is a master of long shots and deliberate uses of focus and panning to imply subjectivity.

Watching Stalker was like watching a reflection in a mirror. It forces you to go on a philosophical journey and admire the art of slowburn cinema. Just like Solaris (also by Tarkowski), Stalker is a masterpiece worthwile to watch.

Which part specifically? The voiceover? Ambient sound from the films? Or just everything in general?

    • @mattxeffect
      @mattxeffect 2 ปีที่แล้ว

@@24frameschannel the voice over was what I noticed first. But the sound from the clips seem to be at almost the same level as your voice and not brought forward or pushed back in the mix and it sounded flat to me. I had a hard time hearing what you were saying when you were talking and a hard time hearing audio from the clips also. I am not an expert with video audio but it was something I noticed.
