oddly enough my elderly sister had a nissan versa with a cvt and it died at 200,000 miles and she is rough on cars,i personally hate cvt 's.

JEEP Gran Cherokee and Ford Escape?! No way. Everyone else says they suck. Lexus, Subaru, Honda Pilot, Toyota Sequoia not available in Ecuador. A Toyota Fortuna (Four Runner) will cost you $100, 000 here. The Rav 4 and Highlander are very expensive as well.

This video is a little too Japanese bias. Japanese vehicles have been recalled before for various problems. They're not perfect at all.

A common theme is a CVT or Dual Clutch. We had a 2005 Mini with a CVT. Just sold it last week and the experience had predisposed me to avoid any car with a CVT.

So the lesson here is don’t buy British, German, Korean or American. Just get a trustworthy Japanese car. I’ve driven since 16 years old. I’m 48 now. I’ve only driven 80-90’s Nissans, Hondas, Acuras, and Lexus vehicles. I’ve never had a breakdown, never been stranded on the side of the road and never had major repairs other than routine maintenance.

At those prices, I'll just keep my 92 Landcruiser.

Your hyundai recalls are mostly for US-made engines and transmissions. In Australia, the 2.0lt engine fitted to i30 sedans cn7 series, or Elantra in other countries, not hatch, has the same 2.0lt as the Kona, no recall in Australia only recall for DCT and only for a software change. The irony is that the Nissan versa which is the cheapest car available can be equipped with a 5-speed manual transmission and would probably last 250,000 miles.

If the vehicle does not have a Toyota Aisin 8-speed Geartronic transmission or a Toyota eCVT transmission then you are subject to reliability issues. Of course, regular maintenance is required and NOT ignored. PS - the Geartronic transmission is so good that my wife's 2019 Volvo XC-40 comes with that Toyota subsidiaries Geartronic 8-speed transmission, go figure!
