    Had a total knee revision, my first knee got infected and was never right . I'm 4 weeks out and in therapy my last day of therapy my knee still has bouts of electric shock pain that I call pinging, I left feeling good, but halfway home it went crazy with intense pain ,I considered pulling over ,I was near tears and screaming it hurt so bad. I arrived home and had my daughter help me out of my car once I started walking it subsided enough to have supper and crash in my recliner with my ice pack. Thank you. Two questions: 1) Nurse at my surgeon's office says that trying to stay with operated leg elevated (with ankle above knee & knee above heart) is not necessary at night. Only as much as possible during the day. Do you agree? 2) In the side sleep position you demonstrated, the ankle on your operated leg does not look any higher than your knee. I assume you believe this is OK?

    • @Kneereplacementcoach
      @Kneereplacementcoach 5 หลายเดือนก่อน

      It really depends on how your swelling is after surgery. Elevation definitely helps with swelling, so if you’re not getting pain or lack of movement from swelling you can rest in whatever position gives you the most relief ❤️‍🩹

I can honestly say that I really don’t have any concerning pain 80% of the time and when I do it’s because I’m still trying to get the pain management, etc. right. Every day is a learning process. The only concern I have is substantial swelling around my ankle and was wondering, apart from ice and elevation, is there anything else I can do to help the swelling go down, perhaps some sort of exercise? 🙂🇦🇺

    My recliner adjusts for sleeping quite nicely. When I add 2 pillows on the footrest my feet are then toes above nose. My PT says this is fine since it holds me in place much better than trying to sleep in bed with feet elevated on pillows. There is too much room and I roll onto my side and off the pillows when asleep. Back sleeping is very difficult for me and many people. I have just finished rehab from my 2nd knee replacement this year. For both of them I did great. Starting with a 90 and 95 flexion and nearly zero extension I did 8 weeks of PT for each going 2 times a week and doing home exercises. I am almost 73 and at 2 weeks I was bending at 120. My surgeon was very pleased and said I was weeks ahead of the norm. I attribute most of it to doing pre-hab on my own. If the recliner had been hindering my progress I would have given it up. However I slept great in it only waking for bathroom breaks which gave me chances in the night to walk around in the house to prevent blood clots. I do think the individual surgeon should have the final say with his own preferences. Mine said that sleep was so important and had no issue with the recliner as long as elevation was maintained. I used it for the first 2 weeks each time and the swelling was gone for each at the end of that time. So then I slept normally at night and elevated during the day in the recliner. Sleep was really pretty good even the first 2 weeks because this surgery is exhausting and PT starts as outpatient on day #2. So I was very thankful to find a way to be comfortable enough to sleep and to also maintain elevation.

    • @Kneereplacementcoach
      @Kneereplacementcoach 6 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Yes, definitely agree. As I mentioned in the video if your chair can be modified to maintain the correct resting position then your recliner is definitely a good option. The focus was to highlight the limitations of a recliner if you use it as you normally would. Best of luck in your ongoing recovery ❤️‍🩹
