Day Out With Thomas
What track is that? I'm thinking of putting in some track along the fence in my garden, but I'm concerned about the track rusting and plastic ties getting ruined in time by the sun and elements.
Do you have power wires connected to the track at one spot, or do you have multiple pairs connecting the track at various places?
BoCo ? Oh your not BoCo
that's the closest thing your gonna get to boco
Great to see the B12s - I'm lucky enough to live near the North Norfolk Railway where the sole remaining example "61572/8572" resides. I''m planning on making a garden line in 00 for our back garden & the majority of the rolling stock will be based on the NNR with this B12, a 9F "Black Prince", 76084 Standard 4MT, a EE Type 3 Class 37 D6732 and Brush Type 2 D5631, plus maybe a few famous preserved visitors with additional locos that weren't preserved (60024 "Kingfisher and 2750 "Papyrus" as examples). Seeing your channel has given me dozens of fresh ideas, plenty of inspiration and impotus too...
I'm yet to build mine, the main problem I have it that we have a young Staffy and she would destroy everything as she's so playful
Thank you for the video. It was very helpful, 2 years later from this I'd love to see what its like now.
Nice video, lights look good for inside as well. To help us look/buy the items, could you add a link in the video description. Ps, your side cutters could do with a clean. 😕 , did you cut through the cable causing them to break x The Bigfella x
This is really good. Does it still exist?
Built mine 3yrs ago ,used brass drawing pins in between sleepers at intervals and had no trouble with track expanding also soldered wires between rail joints so no problem with power loss ,its nice to see others working their way through problems ,keep up the good work sir .
That face on the class 33 looks a bit creepy
Always a dream of mine of to have a garden railway hope your still enjoying it following your progress. Keep up the good work cheers 👍
Hi, Karl have you used 0 Gauge track rubber I use this on my garden railway. 00 there around £6. i all so use a Triang track cleaning wagon. I find that this works well. I am on Dcc. i will never use track magic but as you said good to clean pick up on locos. have a look at my Garden Railway Ron Garden Railway. regards Ron.
Brilliant mate look forward to your next video stay safe all the best 👍😁
What has this to do with OO Bill?
He was interested in buying the loco so he asked me to post a video of it running
love your videos man please do more
Excellent thanks for sharing
Hi can you tell me how your garden railway is wired up!Im in the middle of building my own so looking for advice! Also did you leave space between each section of track to counterbalance expansion?
Hi yes I did leave about 1 mm between each section of track but some times that's still not enough I would advise that when you lay the track put all of the track outside so it can adjust to the temperature of outside befor you start laying it. So on a warn day the track will have already expanded but if you keep it in a cool space ie a shed it will be expanding as you lay it outside. As for wiring up I just have the fish plates in place I also use the hornby ones they tend to hold the rail better and give better continuity. I hope this help please feel free to ask any more questions. Regards karl
I've just come across your vids and wanted to say thanks for uploading. I've got an area of garden (8ft wide x 13ft long) with a pond at one end that I was thinking if adding a railway around, but not sure how to start it.
Everyone has a budget and I'm a fan of not being ripped off. Sadly in this hobby there is a lot of very overpriced things on the internet and in shops but with a bit of thought and patience we can get somewhere we want to be ..great video
Thank you for your comment and yes sometimes us modellers have our pants pulled down on price (bachmann) lol. A cheep railway is a good happy hobby. Regards karl
Thank you Karl for sharing your experiences of building your garden railway, it's good to show people that 00 gauge outside isn't a problem, I started building mine in 2008 after I saw one built by the legendary Paul Barnard at a near neighbours home, untill that point I wouldn't have even considered going outside with 00 gauge, I've had no problems with running only some locos don't like damp air but run fine in the rain, which I find strange, I have a South facing garden and the track stays straight in the hottest of weather, another thing I do is put a US army wartime electrical contact grease in the rail joiners and exposed point components and 13 years on they still function 100%, thank you again Karl and when I learn how to post on You tube I will show my railway, all the best and keep up the good work.
Thank you for your comment I look forward to seeing your work on TH-cam. And thank you for the tips greatly appreciated. Regards karl
Nice tip about the second hand track 👍
Inspirational....and probably a lot cheaper that making a loft based layout....in the garden you can get away without the fine (expensive) details.... thank you for sharing your experience
Thank you. And yes I'm no good at detail let alone fine detail. Thank you for your comment
Great stuff never thought of using gum tree. Only thing at the end of it all is you get a great model railway.👍👍
Yes you do thank you very much
Might of been cheap to build but looks a £1,000,000 superb
Thank you so much it means alot
What is that beautiful blue flowering plants? Your layout is nice
Thank you the blue plants are called blue campanula widely available ie. tesco and most garden centers and not expensive. A great low growing fast spreading and easy to care for.
Nice one, take your time and bag a bargain when it comes up, if your willing to put in the time you can achieve the results you have looks great,
Thank you very much I appreciate your comment
Nice one mate keep it up id love to see it progress to 👍
Don't worry. I think lighting will be the next video. Thank you
Nice search Lok Home Market dcc我覺得好的士柏寶如此類
why oh why does everyone pin their track to yhe outside of boards and not have a guard rail along the sides in case of expensive derailments
That us due to the base not being wide enough for both track and railings. Also iv not had any major derailment. And thw guard rail would get it the way when cleaning. I hope this answers you question. Thank you
Looks good and im loving the name lol keep it up mate 👍 you should make a gopro train up to
I'm thinking of getting a cube camera to film a cab view of the layout. Thank you for your comment
how much did this all cost?
I'm planing to do a costing video soon so I hope this will answer you question soon.
@@Karlsgardenrailway ok I'm looking forward to it keep up the good work
Very nicely done Karl. I wish we could put OO scale in the garden but our weather would wreck it, -20 c or more in the winter and up to +42 c in summer. (40 c predicted for next weekend.) Regards, David.
Wow that's a huge variation in temperature. We go to -7c up to 30c top's. Thank you for your comment
Taking shape quite nicely there Karl....keep it up
Thank you very much
Great job mate I want one myself now.
Thank you. I think everyone should have one lol
Hi well you have done a great job. Now my wife wants me to carry on with mine. So thank you . Hope you will carry on and show the railway as the garden matures. 👍👍
I certainly will good luck with yours glad the wife is on board. Thank you
Hello good job looking great is this dc controlled Or dcc great video
Thank you it's all dc controlled
Looking good glad to see your Work thank you for video
Thank you very much
great job karl
Thank you so much
This is coming on really well. Thanks for sharing..and please continue...
I certainly will continue to share thank you for your support
Looking good! Can I just ask if theres a reason for running on the righthand track? Thanks!
If you mean in the Station area its due to how the points are laid as they are more reliable when crossing in a straight line. Thank you for your comment
I think he means everywhere else. Prototypical operation in the UK is running on the left hand track on double track lines. Right hand track running is more usual everywhere else (The continent and America). Entirely up to you how you like to run though.
You are right I belive in my haste of getting it running I didn't pay much attention to what way they were facing. I will rectify this next time lol.
Excellent that's coming along really nicely
Thank you very much it's worth the work.
Great video Karl 👍 all the best, Paul
Thank you very much
I will confess that, after I move and setup my own garden railway, I intend to unashamedly steal your track plan. Thankyou
It's not stealing at all lol. its just my track plan has inspired you. Glade my ideas can help others. Thank you very much I take it as a compliment
I'm glad as that's why I told you Karl. And what about the Small Packet with the LMS tender. I assume that Bude went North West in the Interchange Trials in 1948 and hence the combination. The clear and outright winner of those trials but 3 cylinders and chain drive valve gear was not what Mr Riddles wanted. Sure looks great !
It’s not an issue at all
Karl nice layout, I too dreaded cleaning my track to my garden railway. Yes a half hour at least for tip top running. I have recently began dead rail operations, running the railway on RC battery power. I too had issue with track expansion, so I float my track tacking down every meter or two. Well done layout Karl. 🚂👍 Ron//
'It's not an issue' 😆...did make me laugh
Its a great railway which doesnt take too much room but allows for fast running and ponsing about in the station. I'm about to build one myself so was keen to see how you did it Karl. I notice you didn't put roofing felt over your running boards
Good luck on you build. The reason I did not use roofing felt is it's to thick to get a nice folded edge it's hard enough felting a shed roof and getting it smooth and secondly I'm using pressure treated decking boards which were 5 years old befor I got them. Thank you for your comment and good luck
