Storybook children is Sandra and Andres' debut single as an artist couple. The child star Sandra (born 1950) had previously recorded a song by Dries Holten (born 1936). It comes from their 1969 album Happy together, on which both singers also sing some solo songs. Sandra & Andres sang it in an arrangement by Ger van Leeuwen, who "came along" with Sandra.
Storybook children is a cover of a song, which was sung at about the same time (October 1967) by the white Billy Vera (co-author) and the dark-colored gospel singer Judy Clay. That version reached 54th place in the Billboard Hot 100. The couple Nancy Sinatra and Lee Hazlewood also made an attempt (February 1968), but only for their album Nancy & Lee. Much later, it is then 1994, a version of Grant & Forsyth was released under the direction of music producer Peter Koelewijn. That version did not make the Dutch hit parades.
