Six weeks post op appointment went well. 125 flexion. I was given the ok to remove all restrictions and start driving. Still a long way to go. But finally turned the corner after week 4. This is my second tnr, 1st one was much easier. My DR did say it would be different. The pre surgery work I did has helped tremendously. The swelling will take time to go down. Im excited though to begin the next phase
This relieved my anxiety a lot. I’ve been terrified of dislocating my hip and have been babying it probably too much. We were made to repeat the 3 precautions, no twisting, no reaching down and no breaking the 90degree angle. Also I was afraid I wasn’t doing as well as most. Im no super healer but I’m definitely doing as well as the average if not better. Thank you so much.
What about lateral approach in THR?
Sound so dam horrible!!!!!
Fantastic video! Had my total hip replacement on December 27th. I'm feeling great! I had been in agonizing pain for a year and a half! I have to follow the 6 weeks rules but I feel I'm well enough already. I won't get the okay to drive until the 6 weeks. Also after the 6 weeks is over I can get back to the rec center pool! I can hardly wait. Seems a little extreme. I go on my treadmill because there's too much snow outside Thanks again! Great information
I'm happy to have found this video. I'm 64 & have hip replacement surgery scheduled for 3/28/2025. This information has made me feel more comfortable about what to expect.
It has been a long time since thr on my right leg on Sept 4. I have pain still, especially moving my leg up and down, getting in and out of the car, rolling over etc. The xray looked good at 6 weeks but has failed to improve. Any insights anyone?
Hi doc. I think our surnames suggest we have common ancestry. I am a 69 year old family physician who had a left anterior procedure in 2023 and did have some initial anterior thigh numbness but was playing golf 8 weeks later. I recently had the right done and felt great at 3 weeks such that I was advised to start some abduction strengthening. The next day, while seated and in no pain, I had a spontaneous right hip dislocation 3 weeks and one day post anterior hip surgery. I guess there answer is to “never say never” and to wait at least 6 weeks before getting super active, even if pain free. That said, no regrets.
I'm having surgery next week for a total hip replacement... this was very helpful! Thank you
You have said all the things my doctor SHOULD have said. Thank you
I couldn’t do the bra at the back when I was 13.
Getting my hip replaced in 3 days, feeling uneasy but having come across your clip im now excited, you have explained so much, im not living in your country im was down south, almost the bottom of the planet so things may be done a little different, i thank you for your incite and am now looking fwd, cheer's from NZ.
64, had L hip Anterior 6 weeks ago. Feel great, back to gentle riding stationary bike, swimming + walking. Will have R hip done in 5 weeks.
Thats the best sensitive explanation on recovery from knee replacement surgery Ive heard !!! Very informative & thorough !!!!
Thanks. Great information. Even at 3 weeks post, the night pain wake ups are getting a little tedious. “Sleep” is more a series of naps in between waking up and taking another Tylenol. Thanks again.
1st post op visit Doctor. Any pain? Me . No Doctor. Good ,fancy a pint? Me. I'm buying Doc. This is quite normal in the UK.
I'm 6 weeks into my knee replacement I live in the uk
His video is very thoughtful for patient, communicating and understanding from patient perspective.❤
Are you related to Ed Tomssczewski from Bayonne, NJ? We went to the OLMC in Bayonne NJ. We were also alter boys.
I’m at a few days away from 6 weeks. I really like him, everything he is saying is exactly what I’m experiencing. And yes, there is still “ discomfort”. Not horrible pain like first few weeks post op. Anti-inflammatory meds are the ticket.
I had my left hip replacement by a new method called SuperPath. This is so so so much better than anterior or Posterior replacement. I live in Hong Kong, have several friends that had theirs done by either method but I saw them all having plenty of problems and not cured after a year. I had mine done in Phoenix Az. Fell asleep at 11.30a.m. in a clinic, woke up at 1.15p.m. left the clinic at 3.15p.m. Forgot to stop by CVS to my opioid pills for severe pain and just used Advil twice that night. Got all clear after 6 weeks and went back to Hong Kong. Two weeks later my wife joined our son and his family to tour Portugal and Spain. We got into Barcelona the day that was a riot and we had to take subway to the hotel. But elevator and escaltor closed down and had to lift our bags up 5 flight of stairs and a very long walk to the hotel as the front side was where the riots took place. All of the 2 weeks trip were by walking, with no problems. Now at 78 years, I play pickleball 3 times a week for 2 hours each time at around 4.0-4.5 level with no problem. If anyone needs hip replacement, be sure to find a doctor that does SuperPath, not anterior or posterior. You will not regret.
I am D+1 post op TKR. In my 47 yo, i have done 3 times caesarians, curretage, 1 achilles tendon ruptured surgery. Now, i have to endure the pain of tkr. Wish me luck.
Great video !
I am going to have shoulder replacement surgery in Feb 2025. Is reverse shoulder replacement a norm procedure now? Do I need to request for it with my surgeon?
Great Vlog of information... Thank you❣️
What about sleeping on the same side you had surgery?
Had mine yesterday its very painful! Still very stiff... can't wait for all of this to behide me!!!
Why do creators think we need background music during a talk, which, by the way, was very good?
I had total shoulder replacement on my right arm in Dec 2019 and the only down fall is being able reach behind my back. I am waiting to have a MRI on my left shoulder I have already been told I am a candidate for reverse replacement. Oh and by the way I will be 71 next week. due to have surgery between Christmas and New Years.
Thank you I have a better understanding now of what to expect. I am at 4 weeks post op and still having hot bruised calves and ankles. seems I need more patience. I have just subscribed.
Excellent video, well done.
I am waiting for Dr make my appointment for specilist , all comments in here make feel good, thank you everybody's feel good.
I had to stop watching your video because of the volume of the music. You have a great speaking voice. Why?
I legit need advice...this is not a simple Google search type deal. I had Ortho on my left shoulder in 2007, it was great for about 12 years. It started getting bad again in 2020 and I had a clean-up surgery in 2022. I'm 40 years old, my shoulder is so torn up so bad it warrents a shoulder replacement but i have been told and found online, they typically won't do a shoulder replacement until I'm 50! 50!? I am also getting deferred pain on the anterior side on my collar bone of the effected shoulder. It literally hurts when I cough, sneeze or take deep breaths. My question is what is the youngest Pt any Dr has performed this on and what was the ultimate criteria that determentled that?
Thank you for this video. Your demeanor is very reassuring! Very much appreciated!
5 weeks in,no aids and feeling good. The only excersise i cant do is leg raises when lying flat. I can lift it slightly but not much. Anyone else feel this. My PT says its eat day's yet. Thats a heavy lift?
I’m 4 weeks in, I can lift it a bit but not fully without pain, I started walking without aid last week but I’ve had 2 days without a walk due to the weather and now feel a little bit of a set back as I’m getting pain when walking again. Do you still have any pain when walking or has it totally gone?
I can raise my legs, I'm 8 wks out, but it hurts my ilioposis tendon is sore so must take it easy on the leg lifts.
@@Kathykatz27 10 weeks in now, I’ve just started to get strength back in leg lifts, be patient as every day feels better
I got mine from birth can I also get a sugar, I wish I could get some help
Thank you for this information . I’m going to be 70 in the spring and look forward to actually walking with no pain . I’m almost at 6 weeks from my surgery , Slowly feeling better and I Ice and elevate my knee and do exercises . That was an awwwful surgery to go through but made it through and everyday I feel better !
Yeah music is annoying
Great Video! Thank you 🔥👏💪🫶 😊
Everyone is different. I'm a 61 year old male and had posterior hip surgery 10 days ago and feel quite normal now. I could walk the same day without a limp or aid, walked a mile pain free on the 3rd day, went back to work on the 6th day (but easily could have gone back on the second) and hiked 2 miles on a fairly uphill trail today. I'm not sure if it is because of my surgeon's skill, that I was in good shape beforehand, or just luck, but don't be afraid to hope for the best.
I’m at one week on hip replacement at bone and joint in Franklin and doing fantastic almost no pain but continue to have lots of swelling which is normal I continue taking 81 mg aspirin each day and try and walk around the house once an hour and continue the exercises the pt gave before leaving the hospital. This is so much easier than knee replacement surgery.
I've heard that a lot
So still confused. My surgeon here in Missouri the one who did both my knees specializes in the anterior, the smaller incision upfront, which is minimally, less invasive but harder and tighter working area. I’m nervous that when they implant the spear into the femur that they get it absolutely perfectly centered. The posterior there’s more flesh cut through and supposedly there’s more range of motion versus the interior technique? At least that’s according to the surgeon here who did my knees so I’m debating do I wanna have a longer recovery time with the posterior technique as I work in the hospital here in Southeast Missouri and I drive a small shuttle bus around picking people up so I don’t want to be out of work for the month. Still trying to figure what would be the best approach?
This is by far, the best info video that I've seen. Had hip replacement 7 weeks ago and just wondering if I'm on track for healing. This video is so welcomed! A must watch for all 6 weekers. I am so relived. GREAT info and so well presented!!!!
Thank you Sir you really uplifted my spirits, been feeling really down and frustrated. I'm at the 6 wk post op .🙏🙌🙏
2 weeks post op. Walking unaided most of the time. Go up stairs normally. Bending to 100-110. Rare use of norco. Very happy with my results so far.
Thanks for the great info Doctor T
I'm a little over three weeks out. The pain is reduced but it's still very high. I also had a situation with my thigh the first week that I feel set me back. My thigh was hard as a rock all the way up to my hip and extremely painful. I had to go to the ER to make sure there wasn't a clot issue. There wasn't, my thigh was simply hard and extremely painful. Sleep is a GIANT issue. I can't get more than 3 hrs of sleep a night even with pain pills. My flexion has gotten somewhat better. But it's not as far as it should be according to my Dr. and physical therapist. Again, that giant issue with my thigh I feel set me back. The home PT said of all the years he's done PT he never seen someone's thigh that hard all the way to the hip. I think the tourniquet was applied too tight. I still have nerve pain in my thigh in that area. Hopefully I can get the knee flexion I need so that they won't have to go back and do anything else. Because right now I'm behind the curve, I blame it all on the thigh issue that the Doctor seemed to blow off.
Spot on video. Yes, of course you could be a 7-10 ahead or behind this schedule, but it’s a very realistic depiction. I had both knees done and I was behind this schedule with my 1st one and ahead with the 2nd one.
I had a reverse total shoulder replacement exactly 1 month ago and it is very painful. I have a high tolerance for pain. I've had a left and right hip replacement, bone on bone so I know about pain. Anyway, I'm coming along great and can't wait to get really active again especially since I'll be turning 63 on Monday.
How are you doing now? I’ve had two rotator cuff surgeries, every year since 2023. Now I need a shoulder replacement in February. I’m not looking forward to the pain and recovery once again.
