Neolithic Gabbroic Pottery
Expert pinch potter Hannah Lawrence explains how to make and decorate pinch pots in the style of Neolithic gabbroic pottery.
This was part of an innovative Art Lab workshop that took place at CAST in November 2023, developed by Lucy Grant and her learning team in partnership with the Museum of Cornish Life and the Clay Trap ceramic studio at CAST.
Those wishing to lead their own sessions about gabbroic pottery can find learning resources on CAST's website.
The demonstration was filmed by Cris and Molly of CM Productions.
The 2023 workshops and this video were made possible by a National Lottery Heritage Fund grant. They are part of CAST’s ongoing schools programmes which are supported by the UK Government through the UK Shared Prosperity Fund until March 2025.

Excellent presentation on the Cornish granites, I would love to go on a field trip and see these sites for myself. Is there any reason why the Variscan emplacement of these bodies could not have been duplicated in the Caledonian granites e.g in ireland? Also, does compositional variation imply a different source or can fractionation and P-T changes can account for them, even within the same granite?

An opportunity to hear Ivor Bowditch talking with characteristic eloquence about the industry and landscape he loved and about which he knew so much. Very sadly, Ivor died in September 2023, a huge loss to the industrial history world in Cornwall.

Love Peter Doig. But I’m surprised that the interviewer showed the exact SAME four paintings that I saw in a previous interview online where they asked the SAME questions resulting in Peter answering in pretty much the same way, although to his credit, he came up with some different stories, good for him. Now this is an artist with such a long and varied body of work, why would this organization choose the same tiny selection of Doig paintings as the other British presentation several years earlier, ask identical questions and make a similar video? At least Peter Doig is an original.
