On the road with a Mazda MX5 and the Genesis GV60. Do electric cars take the fun out of driving?
As enthusiasts many of us drive for fun. We love the sound of that engine, the pleasure of flicking through the gears, and the satisfaction of working with the dynamics of a well sorted combustion engined car. Protecting the planet will soon bring an end to all that, and we will soon mostly be driving electrically powered vehicles. In this video we tackle the question by driving both, not by way of back to back comparison as they are very different cars, but simply to find out which of the two ‘concepts’ gives greatest pleasure behind the wheel.

Porsche 911 (992) GT3
'This Porsche 911 (992) GT3 is about as pure as you’ll get to experiencing the limit of a road car that is equally a stonking performer on track. You buy this car with a purpose, and that is to drive it for fun. It may not have the everyday comfort of the 911 S, the ‘sweet-spot’ GTS, or even GT3s of old; we say that’s because the bar has been lifted once again, but can this GT3 do what its prede...

Dino 246 & Ferrari F8 Tributo - Driven by passion
Many of us, as car enthusiasts, have a favourite brand. For me, Ferraris’ have always been special, and it has been an absolute privilege to have driven so many of them over the years. My personal passion began with the Dino, Ferrari’s first mid-engined road car, and culminates in the very latest V8 twin turbo charged F8 Tributo. Here we drive both. With some 50 years separating them they are v...
Racing Puma - One of Ford's Best.
The Ford Racing Puma was a limited edition performance model building on the unexpected best selling popularity of the original Ford Puma. (1997-2002) Selling at £23,000, the Racing Puma was a hefty £10,000 more to buy over the standard car. Ford originally intended to make 1000 of these limited edition specials but in the end only made 500, and the one featured in our video was owned by our pr...
The New Ferrari Roma
Ferrari’s new Roma is a game changer for 2021. We were amongst the first to drive it in the UK on road and track and loved it! Whilst inevitably drawing comparison to the similarly front engined V8 Portofino, the Roma is a new and very different car, and a direct competitor to Porsche’s 911, Aston’s Vantage, and Bentley’s Continental GT. The Roma, however, does things ‘the Ferrari way’ and as w...
BMW M5 E39 - A Modern Classic
BMW M5 E39 - A Modern Classic This is our brief video of BMW's brilliant V8 engined E39 M5. Filmed some 21 years ago it was one of the official BMW test cars at the time, yet despite many competent successors this one still remains a favourite amongst BMW fans. It is good even to this day, and whilst this video isn't a typical road test review, just driving the E39 with attitude shows its chara...

1970 Maserati-powered Citroen SM - is it Wise to Meet your Heroes?
Exclusive review of this sensational Maserati powered Citroen SM. As a young boy, the Citroen SM was one of Kevin Haggarthy’s ultimate dream cars. In this video he drives the real thing to see if it matches up to the dream. Introduced in 1970, this car was unique - not only for its exceptional design and aerodynamics, but as the first Citroen to be powered by a Maserati engine. As well as inher...

What is the watch that Kevin in wearing? Is it by any chance the Rado Integral?
a perfect owner for this car, as stilish as the car itself, and yes what a gearbox
The DS already turned the front lights and at first was a bit frightning ,as one had the feeling a car was coming faster in the direction one turned and they only were built not to compete with any other car ,it´s a unique car and citroen didn´t agree with having more than 2.175 CC´s engine and the SM was and in colaboration with Maseratti, it´s a out of this world car, and you know it
All i can say is that from my favoriye cars in my 20´s i only didn´t bought the Lancia Stratos and the citroen SM ,were asking too much money, then i thought "maybe in a few years they will be more afordable" but no the prices asked only increased, in the 80´s almost did it but ended up not buying them, now i´m i feel stupid for not having bought them when they were expensive but cheaper.the other was the ferrari daytona with top, the convertible i own one, but where i live is sunny most of the year so topless cars is a burning head feeling, only at night and soft top´s are being destroyd by the minute during the day time, my SL´s and SLC are all with hardtop , but also i think there wasn´t a SLC without top, the 70´s coupé of the future SEC´s or S class coupé´s
Not the first Citroën with swiveling headlights nor is it the first with 5 speed manual, the DS offered it already before the SM
What a beauty!❤
De DS had al meedraaiende lampen.
This guy spits when he talks 😮
Fake watch and dumb hat don't add to the cheesy review.
The French always made products with dramatic flair and innovation. I'm a great admirer of this Gallic trait. I remember being on a SNCF passenger train coming in from Belgium. Off in the distance, something caught my eye. It was the TGV. It was a fast-moving, undulating beast and it was very impressive.
Used to commute in my SM & only got love from fellow travelers - one of best examples has been meaningful nods from bikers!
Love that you love the SM. I have owned three SMs & they are complex but very reliable if looked after. Also the only car that gets more attention than the usual suspects!
poignees de portes hum!!!!!
It's Fabulous my dude, I love it!! 🎉
That brought back some memories, as I drove one for a few hours a quarter of a century ago. It was 'other worldly' in so many respects, but it was the amazing suspension that really gripped my attention.
Two feet longer and wider - so not the same chassis then is it , Yes I have owned one and a lovely motor car !
9:11 lenth is a thumbs upper
hold up there guy , the headlights were first done on the tucker
Are they Alfa 105 coupe taillights?
1:26 : corner following head lamps were definitely not the first with the SM.
Beautiful ... Space ship ... 🚙👍🚀🛸🙏☯🎩♾
I remember going to Europe in the early 90’s after the fall. I laughed so hard when I saw my first Citreon, not that cars in the 90’s had all the best styles. Never seen an SM in person but man do I love it’s design more and more every time I see it
I keep watching this review just for Mr Kevin's Haggerthy's impeccable English.. oh and thank heavens and English Breakfast tea its nothing like those Clarkson clowns
didnt the maserati sm come out in 75?
The best Citroen produced was the 1974 DS23 Pallas. It was the best and most advance automobile ever produced in the world. The SM was basically terrible due to the garbage Maserati V-6 Engine. Cylinder Head Gasket failures were common at relatively low mileages. The 4 Cyl. Hemi Head Engine in the DS Series was able to achieve 120 mph with 5 adults in the car. 90% of all automotive videos on TH-cam are fairly worthless. They fail illustrate why any specific vehicle is excellent from a Technical and Engineering aspect. Their stupid attention to a mundane details and alleged beauty is moronic. Opinion of beauty is subjective !
Sadly soon All Gas cars will be forbidden in EU ans USA!
Why would you open on the parts bin stuff? These cars are prettier than a Miura, and both more practical and less likely to catch fire. These are the most undervalued pedigree classics out there. And you can't have mine. 🎉 Oh, and you'd get better performance if you wore a less blingy watch. Add lightness.
Affordability is one thing, that eases with time, but the other problem that only gets worse, is maintenance. This car would be impossible to maintain in the US, and likely veey expensive to insure.
this is CLASS
This is Technolgie Porno
I used to drive a silver SM (ODP 591M) back in the late 70s in the West End of London. It's wonderful to drive and a real head turner. My all time favourite car.
You akso could have tried a Leyland Princess 2200 HLS
Ugly car
Man... I do miss big Citroëns. This, the DS, the CX and even more recent cars like the XM or C6 were just so... French ... and different.
I've only ever seen this car in silver and/or possibly bronze. But looks absolutely stunning in dark blue! 👍👍
Imo Citroën should have put the initial V8 in it and should have offered an automatic. This V6 could have been used in a top level DS and later CX. Sadly the oil crisis of 1973 spoiler the fun.
Lucky man .
It has everything. Style, pace, awesome innovative engineering, and it's even practical too. Pity it's so damned complicated if anything were to go wrong.
Stunning car and a stunning colour too. Its classy and brilliant. Amazing what Citroen achived with this at the time.
Yeah! I also had a Citroën SM as a model, even behind the Iron Curtain! 😃👍 It was not a matchbox-sized car but a bigger one with more details in gold metallic (10 cm or 4" and heavy). I liked this model even before knowing that this car existed in reality. When I was a kid it was just a precious toy. Maybe I will drive it one day? 😉
Thanks for your comments! You will certainly enjoy it when you do!
Wow. This clip has "old Top Gear" written all over it!
I love the color of your SM !!
A great review, Kevin. You're the kind of dapper gent I can see behind the wheel of something Avant Garde like the SM on a daily basis.
I think this may be my favorite car of all time. I think they should give it to you!
Excellent, inspiring review! Well done!
Beautiful front....like it was designed by Gerry Anderson.
In my young days, driving through Morocco through Atlas Mountains at steady 50MPH when a fleet of Police outsiders at huge speed in front of bright red Citroën SM driven by King of Morocco flashed past, pushing us off the road. Wow...hugely impressive. Very desirable car
Currently resurrecting my late father's 71 +2s. Absolutely can not wait to get behind the wheel and enjoy it. Childhood dream of mine to do so. In the meantime videos like these will have to do!!
