How is everything about RACE? Theres more to life than RACE. If someone is mean to you it doesn't automatically mean it was racial. It could be because they're in pain and taking it out on anyone close to them. Or it could be YOU. If anything, teach young people to embrace their opportunities (good and bad) and make the best out of them. If you think your job is being racist, quit. Why work somewhere and expect to get paid while trying to read between the lines. Its a choice. If you don't like it, make a different choice. Sometimes in life, people are just mean for no reason. Go touch grass

“Micro aggression”? Why are we spending so much time on a pointless conversation? If you’re a man and providing value to your job, family, or community and you don’t feel as comfortable with someone at your job, decide and get another job or start your own business. That way, it’s their loss! “Rejection is GODs protection” It is a fools errand to try, define and understand what a micro aggression is, and identify them. Why, because it’s based on perception and perspective. Everything isn’t always about Race. lol. There’s more to life than Race. My 2 cents

Guys, listen... stop the self-victimising. I'm black (before I go any further) and I've been in the workforce for 15-20 years. I've worked with lots of races and the 2 genders, been beneath and above in the hierarchy, able to enforce and be subject to others enforcing on me. The one thing that has been consistent is that white people speak up for themselves. They don't do it violently, or like brutes. They make you understand, as THEIR boss, that they know the law, they know their rights and while they respect you you must respect them. Likewise I learned to do what THEY do when I am under a manager; let the manager understand that you are aware of the rules of the game and that you won't let anyone push you around. For instance, on day 1 when the boss does something wrong, the same way he would call you to the side to have a chat, YOU call him/her to the side and say "I heard what you said about ...., I hear you, but I would have appreciated if you'd addressed me in private, I felt humiliated and I don't like that as a way of treatment or resolution of problems. Like I said, I wont do ... again. Is that a fair thing for me to ask for?". You can even add "I think you do a great job of leading us, but in this case I feel let down". A norma, functioning human would be challenged (the boss) to listen AND reflect. The next time they have an issue they will definitely be more circumspect and respectful because they know you will give them a talking to! Notice that i didn't say white/black boss... I said 'boss'. Period. In other words ALL humans are like that. all bosses are like that. And wherever you go that is how workplace interactions will work. YOUR challenge is to step out of your endless victimhood and learn to NAVIGATE the world of cooperative human relationships. You can never grow if you are stuck in this loop of inferiority and victimhood where you, yourself cast yourself as the victim all the time. Because victims, real or not, think and act like victims. You gotta rise above it and I guarantee you, you will look at your colleagues who are still stuck in victimhood and wonder how you got through the day when you were like them! Stop it.

I appreciate how you guys met at a panel and decided to continue this discussion after meeting at a panel. I enjoyed how you started off with the definition of workplace trauma and then went into discussing the indicators, culture, & diving into micro aggressions. I literally just completed a training and they talked about that so that was interesting to see you guys talk about. Kizzle‘s colleague and discussion with his manager and navigating It reminded me of one of my most recent positions in corporate in my case My Manager, that motivated me to become self-employed, I appreciate the perspective of speaking and expressing yourself over a larger company mission. When y’all discussed starting off conversations with deeper questions to build connections over surface questions like the weather resonated with me and how I approach coffee and water cooler talk. That college to adulting transition is real so is friendship group mixing I definitely laughed at that part and one of the closing thoughts for reminding us that it’s internal versus external and work is not our life. Jean I always knew you were solid & I feel I got to know you better watching. Great discussion fellas!
