Headed out of Egmont Key early morning and had a beautiful day on the water.

    One flaw is supplying the new water from the bottom. The weight of the water in the trash can is going to try to backfeed into the drinking water system. Need to supply fill water at top with air-gap between supply water and weir. A small amount of water can be drained from the bottom at the same rate as the make-up water. Also maybe remove the prop during this operation. Or cross your fingers with muffs. In any case, there's really no reason to run the motor for more than a few minutes to conduct tests or flush cooling system. Just my observation.

    Went to the second hand (recycle) yard got a used clean drum about 44Gal/170L for $10, cut the top 1/3 off with the disc grinder, there is no need to put the motor in gear so hung the garden hose over the side, run the F70 for 10 minutes. When finished take the hose off the faucet and drain (syphon) drum water into the garden or the storm water pit.

    I ended up buying Rydlyme descaler and a small pump to flush out my old Yamaha 60hp 2 stroke outboard. I dropped the lower unit of the engine, and hooked the output of the pump to the water intake tube of the engine. I also had to take the thermostate out, but it needed replaced anyway. You mix the Rydlyme in a 5 gal bucket with 1 gallon of water, and put the pump in the bucket. The water comes out of the pee valve into the bucket, and is then run back through the system by the pump. I ran it this was for a few hours. There was at least 1/2" of sludge on the bottom of the bucket when I was done. I could not believe how much crap came out of the engine. It is a little pricey to do it this way, but it works.

    Not only does this flush your engine better, if you are tuning up your engine on mouse ears, you might find out that when you take your boat to the ramp and fire it up in the water, it won't run the same. You need to run your engine lower unit under water to get that back pressure on the thru hub exhaust.

    I’m picking up a used boat next week and started watching these video on flushing. I like your video but disagree with running the cool water thru the flushing process. I think the motor won’t get to temperature properly and the thermostats won’t open so water won’t properly flow thru the motor. The motor has to heat that water up so thermostats open otherwise water stuck on other side of thermostat doesn’t go anywhere, no? The bucket way is the way to go though because muffs create the same issue by constantly introducing cool water so it’s not a proper flush.

    • @jefmichel4027

      Most are just 7.6 rods except for one is an 8 ft with a 6500 size reel. The only reason I have that set up is for big snook and big tarpon. I take it offshore as a backup for bigger fish. The most common setup we use is 4500 with a standard 7.6 rod and 10lb braid and a 20-30lb fluorocarbon leader. Thanks for the question and checking out the video

    What is a good rod to pair with this reel?

    • @belowtheboat3482
      @belowtheboat3482 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Mine is just the standard combo rod and reel you buy as a set it’s a pen rod. I love this setup and have had no problems with neither rod nor reel. I think it will depend on what you plan to use it to fish for. This is just rule of thumb from my experience. If the rod tip is skinny and small it will have a lot of feeling in the water (meaning you can interpret what is happening with your bait much easier). But it will be harder to throw bigger baits even with braid. If you go thick and heavy you will have very little feeling but have bigger baits and stronger sets. I use this combo for inshore fishing and primarily snapper. So little casting mostly bottom fishing and dock or structure fishing. And it works great for that! Hope I helped and didn’t just ramble on thanks for commenting!

    This reel was built to throw lures at big species . Bait wise works for larger species but The slammer lll has a 1 lb minimal drag verses wide open adjustment. Top plate also has a hydrophobic coating so anglers doing home servicing should not grease or it damages the hydrophobic coating. The second generations of Slammer lll also came with a better bail assembly. A few of the original Slammer lll released in 2016 had a bail defect and Penn offers a upgrade to correct this. The second run of Penn Slammer lll come with the better bail. #2 generation has a letter on the inside of the rotor that indicates its the second edition. Most the slammer lll sold are the upgrade version 2 but stores holding old stock may still have the originals.

Bridges and backwater are some of the funnest fishing to do but getting harder and harder to do from shore. We fish the same waters. I've had a go7 with active imaging for 2yrs now. You're going to love it. Every time I go out (west of egmont ;) ) I'm finding new legdes clear as day. In the bay too. Subbed

    We went out 40 miles Friday and delt with the same slowness! 26" red snapper, some Bonita and a bunch of bigger lanes. It's tough out there man I'm learning with you!

    I'd love to get up with yall and fish one day. I just moved to the DTSP area and have a similar vessel set up but no knowledge of this water! Regarding the camera angles, I usually like a mix but prefer the overviews of the deck/personnel. I know what a reel looks like when it's spinning lol... Tight lines

      Thanks for the feedback on the video I love to get viewers input. Maybe we can set something up for fishing. What do you like to target and or what are your ambitions with it? Specific species? Inshore or offshore?

      Both really! I’m excited for snook to open back up, grew up slaying the reds and specks in the northern part of the gulf so inshore is my go-to. I’m learning everything I can about offshore and have had some limited success my last few trips. I’m interested in finding bait shallows, bridge beasts, catching dinner, spearing…. You name it and I’m game
