    I also have a JVC JR-S50. While in High-School, I persuaded my parents to buy a JVC Stereo system in ... 1975, and this receiver was at the heart of it. I got hold of it earlier this summer, and I have restored it to full working condition. While at it, I replaced a couple of burnt indicator lamps with current LEDs. I am very impressed with its warm sound and how comfortable and pleasurable listening to it is, through a couple of nice, middle priced book-shelf speakers. Not having an "AUX" or "Line In", I can still listen to Spotify connecting my iPhone to Tape Play and using the "tape monitor" selection on the front panel. Also great to look at while listening!

    The Through-Line is insensitive and needs a proper aerial to pull in a good signal. Not sure but I think it mentions this in the review (I also have it). The "Local" and "Distance" switch might also not be working correctly. Years ago I opened up both switches on one and found they were both badly oxidized . Cleaned them with Duraglit wadding and reassembled them.

    Hi great informative video, in the old days good external aerial is always good to get good reception and of course receivers years ago not that sensitive. However front ends come more sensitive, the earlier hifi tuners pure 702es have seperate antenna for fm and dab so decent aerial can be used to best dab reception. As it’s not that great so got antenna in attic, and have fm antenna on side of house and worked well . But when I upgraded to Rotel t11 which only have one aerial socket , now you can either great dab reception or now bad reception on fm, with the mag mount antenna suppled May be good signal area. I would imagine that FM broadcasts in the UK over the FM analog band has superior programming than what we have here in the United States, which is mostly commercial top 40 junk; increasing right wing talk radio that is starting to move over from AM and boring public radio playing the same small selection of symphonic music and or "tooty" saxophone oriented "smooth jazz". Sold off my Marantz 10B tuner nearly 20 years ago and that is about the same time I dropped listening to radio.

    • @theebayhififanatic6002
      @theebayhififanatic6002 6 หลายเดือนก่อน

      It’s not great content over here - thankfully I don’t think we get many of the shock jock type programming as the US but the only FM music station I regularly listen to is Radio 3 which is predominantly classical. Actually for rock the main station I listen to now is Radio Paradise from the US which has a FLAC stream

    • @AlexMitchell-sj4sb
      @AlexMitchell-sj4sb 6 หลายเดือนก่อน

      I don't listen to FM over here as its mostly rubbish. We have always had a poor selection of stations compared to the US. I was over there in 1992 and I remember turning the dial on FM and being shocked at how much variety there was. But that was 32 years ago and I guessed things have changed and got worse now according to your post. I counted the stations on FM here the other day, there are 13, two are playing only classical, one is just news, current affairs and talk, 3 are just playing current pop or modern music and there is two stations that play a bit more variety but that's hit and miss to be honest.

    I wonder what record is playing in the intro... it's an MFP label, and nearly all mfp records are re-recordings with another artist. My eyes were opened to tuner differences when I got my Yamaha TX-592RDS. It replaced a Sony receiver thta picked up 3 stations, I know pick up 40 and without annoying static. Same antenna, just plug and play. Not saying the yamaha is the best one since sliced bread, but I do know there's big differences out there

    • @theebayhififanatic6002
      @theebayhififanatic6002 6 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Yes MFP was a budget label but I think as part of EMI they got early recordings of some major artists. The one I have is Relics which is a compilation of Syd Barrett-era Pink Floyd. I seem to remember reading somewhere the band weren’t too happy about the release on that label . I also had a couple of Beatles compilations on MFP back in the day but they’ve got lost somewhere.

    I am glad this style of product can be made to work. Frankly, I expected bad news since, long ago, I used the watts dust bug , a very similar product that I don't think had any carbon fiber in the brush, and I found it contaminated the sound in use. I believe it must have added some energy to the record , or messed up the energy path created by the needle . All I know is that play sounded better without it The cartridge I used with it , a top of the line shure of that 70's era , had a little hinged carbon fiber brush that contacted the record right in front of the tip and did two things, discharge static, and provide a shock absorbing suspension. Like many others found, that brush contaminated the sound when used , so I leave it in the clicked up, out of contact with the record surface position, since my replacement styli also have a brush. . I would think if a record brush worked well for most people, at the slight cost involved, it would be stuck on a lot of new turntables to provide a competitive advantage . With the reviewer being unclear of how this product improves his sound, my results with another form of static draining carbon bristled brush might indicate that maybe this product works independently of the static removal properties.
