How to get a CLEAN blood free fish filet in minutes that is ready to be packaged aka "bleeding out"
มุมมอง 23K4 ปีที่แล้ว
If your wanting to filet and package your fish all in a short period of time then you need start doing this. Very minimal rinsing is required and the fish tastes great when you eat it since all the blood is out of the filet. When the fish is bleed out we typically give them a light rinse to get the slime off and package them immediately after.

Was super super windy but we were mainly spot locked or slowly pulling the boat into the current so boat control wasn't too bad. Caught a ton of 12-13" Walleye and about a dozen pre-spawn White Bass. What we used and how we used is included in the video. Thanks for watching!

    Kill the fish first. Bonk on the head or penetrate the brain so no suffering. Bleed the fish upside down if you bonk it or at angles if you penetrate the brain. Slit the artery at the tail and gills (neck)

    I would recommend to do a brain spike before bleeding the fish out it makes the fish suffer less and helps it stay fresh longer.

    Dude you snipped a live fishes artery. What kind of sadist are you? Just cut it's head off as quickly as possible. You don't want the animal to suffer and you still cut through that artery.

      @@1surfpesca_ I'm a life long fisherman. I love catfish. People say catfish taste dirty. It doesn't if you clean it right. The meat itself is going to be white meat. You Don't have blood vessels/veins all throughout the meat so there is No reason to bleed a fish.

      Cheers brother, I hear you I’m actually a new fisherman with a lack of an in person mentor… i dream of finally catching a fish and cookin it up… if not catfish are there fish you should bleed ? • @AntDetm
    @AntDetm 3 ปีที่แล้ว

    Check out a Japanese method called Ike Jime. If you slice the tail it allows the blood to come out easier/faster. Spiking the brain and spinal cord destruction is also important so adrenaline, cortisol, lactic acid doesn't flood the meat. That extra 15 to 20 seconds of additional steps makes for a far superior fish even days after. Give it a shot.

  • @fishlovme
    @fishlovme 4 ปีที่แล้ว

    I like to bleed out the fish too, but not for taste but ease of cleaning. I know a few people who have done taste tests with bleeding fish vs not bleeding fish and they've tasted about the same. Still, I believe it's way easier to clean a fish if it's blead out. If you don't have a livewell the same thing can be accomplished by cutting its artery like that and placing the fish in the net or in a bucket. Bucket can get a little messy though because the fish will splash a lot while it dies, which happens pretty quickly. Thanks for the vid, take care!

    Thanks for making this video! A tip I learned a number of years ago is to tie my line from the swivel down to the weight using only 6 pound test. If it snags the bottom you only lose the weight that way. I also use 8 pound fluro for my leader and my main line is typically 8 or 10 pound as well. I don't tie 3 flies often because I fish multiple rods, but when fishing in an area with a lot of boats or fishing a hole I think this would be beneficial.

    • @fishlovme

      @@wisconsinoutdoorwarriors3495 I see you do the opposite with your weight (I commented before you had tied the weight on). When drifting the Wolf River there are spots where I'm just about guaranteed to get snags and if you use a much heavier line it can make it difficult to break the line. Some of those snags are unforgiving! That's why an old timer taught me to do the opposite with the weight, use light line. In areas with little to no snags or snags that are easier to get out I could see having the heavier line as being beneficial, but only if you're able to get the snags out. Otherwise you stand the chance of losing the entire rig when you have to cut your line just to get free!

    • @wisconsinoutdoorwarriors3495
      @wisconsinoutdoorwarriors3495 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      That's very true. I only use this tactic in areas with minimal snags. But what your saying makes complete sense for high snag areas.

    • @timeintheoutdoors
      @timeintheoutdoors 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@wisconsinoutdoorwarriors3495 not trying to start anything here. I don't know what kind of rod holder you have in your boat. I use a painters pole with a gopro mount attached to it. Then added a section of a pool noodle to take up the play in the pole (Bottom of the pole needs to be on the deck of the boat when in the rod holder). Put that in the rod holder and you can have it low or mount it high just by extending the pole. You can also change the position in the boat by putting it in different rod holders. Tight lines and stay healthy!

      Many times the fish try to pin the jig and minnow on the bottom but miss the bait. The result is the fish running into the bait, the angler feels this and sets the hook and ends up in the head/belly area.
