Mark from HARS Aviation Museum
Australia
เข้าร่วมเมื่อ 3 ม.ค. 2021
A collection of aviation-related videos based on my experience as a volunteer at HARS Aviation Museum. The museum is open every day (except Christmas Day) and can be found at Shellharbour airport, 54 Airport Road, Albion Park Rail NSW 2527.
Southern Cross return to flight
Southern Cross replica return to flight.
The Southern Cross replica was built in South Australia in 1987 as a Bicentennial project. After touring the country and being exhibited at air shows during the 1980s and 1990s, in 2002 one of the wheels became detached in flight and during the landing the right wing hit the ground and broke.
The wing repair was conducted by the craftsmen at HARS Aviation Museum in Shellharbour, NSW, one of the few organisations with the capability to work with wood and fabric aircraft structures of this scale.
The aircraft is an almost exact replica of the Fokker F.VII/3m Trimotor that was used by Charles Kingsford Smith for his record-breaking flights in the 1920s, including the first aerial crossing of the Pacific in 1928. The main difference from the original Southern Cross is that the replica has more powerful Jacobs R-775 engines producing 300 hp each.
The restoration took about 12 years to complete and involved repairing the broken wing, repairing the steel tube fuselage frame and fabric and overhauling the engines and propellers. A new Certificate of Airworthiness was issued at the end of November and 5 December was chosen as the day to conduct the first flight.

Tiger Moth start and taxi
มุมมอง 9K3 ปีที่แล้ว
Check out some of the other videos on my channel: th-cam.com/channels/Fz_UrYXeFYO-nrzRtEODMA.html. Today we’re going to start the engine on our Tiger Moth. We’ll do some checks on it and then take the aeroplane for a taxi run. CORRECTION: When pulling the prop through with switches off I said that the throttle should be open. This is incorrect, the throttle should be closed when priming the eng...
ASMR soothing vintage aeroplane engine sounds
มุมมอง 1343 ปีที่แล้ว
This video was made on the 85th anniversary of the first flight of the DC-3 and is a continuous shot from the cockpit of a Douglas C-47 Dakota aircraft flying over Sydney Harbour. The volume is low and all you can hear is the humming of the Pratt and Whitney engines at 2,050 RPM. Check out my other clips from this flight: Celebrating 85 years of the DC-3: th-cam.com/video/xbEQQDBQhkY/w-d-xo.htm...
Dakota engine start and takeoff
มุมมอง 1.6K3 ปีที่แล้ว
This one is for the aviation geeks and shows the startup of our C-47 for a flight over Sydney Harbour to celebrate the 85th anniversary of the first flight of the DC-3. This is just the raw sights and sounds with no voiceover and no music. You can also check out the fully produced version here: th-cam.com/video/xbEQQDBQhkY/w-d-xo.html The 17th of December 2020, marked the 85th anniversary of th...
Celebrating 85 years of the DC 3

Check out my other clips from this flight: Dakota engine start: th-cam.com/video/nVYQ4CTDO1w/w-d-xo.html and the soothing hum of the engines from a camera looking out the window. The 17th of December 2020, marked the 85th anniversary of the first flight of the DC-3 and to celebrate at HARS Aviation Museum, we flew this military version of the DC-3 over Sydney Harbour. It was thirty two years to...
133 views in 3 years. People are missing out. Great sound on the old workhorse.. i want one!
I would still replace the wooden wing spar with a metal one.
The Frog 1/72 was a great model: it looks like this réplica! (Frog was a great manufacturer with greats models)
I am happy to see the Southern Cross fly again! Even if it’s a replica. My great grandfather was one of the people who helped finance those first few trips across the pond. His name was William James Upton. Funny enough, my grandmother married a man who flew with Rollo Kingsford Smith in the 463rd bomber squadron, Mac McLeod. Cheers!
Great job Mark.. lots of very good behind the scene action on that very special day..
We have just purchased A17-284
Great video. Now subscribed. I love the magpies! Nothing more Australian than that.
What colour is she painted, is it the same colour as Contessa...thanks
Love this sound. Would love a long playing version of it!
Hi are you UK ?
No, we are in Australia. HARS Aviation Museum, Shellharbour airport.
Cute
Change oil in rockers.
I owned a Tiger late 70’s. Had to Chas get oil in rocker covers every 25 hours! Love that airplane. Awesome takeoff with the slats on top wings.
Would.ve been nice to see some interior shots of the aircraft besides the flight deck.
3;33 so many candies.🤣
gorgeous aircraft!
Memories of Ozark Airlines.....
i want to hear the engine sound...not your choice of errie music
Do you have a tail wheel on this aircraft ? I notice an abundance of sealed tarmac🤔
Yes, we do have a tail wheel rather than a skid. We also have brakes. It's a bit difficult to find open grass fields to land on around here so our operations are restricted to times when the weather suits our sealed runways.
@@markfromharsaviationmuseum4 Hi Mark, I flew ab initio in DHC 1 Chippies in the early 60,s and the Tiger Moths were just out of my reach timewise. I I had them in my bucket list for 50 years and was only able to have a flight or two . They certainly reminded me of how much I missed by not having much time in them. There is something in todays training aircraft that deprive trainees of the joy of stick and rudder and the blast of air smacking the back of their heads. Wouldn’t it be great if somebody did a Waco job and built them from new again? Your Tiger looks great. Cheers from Downunder 🇦🇺🇨🇦👍😷😷
Superb. If only that old girl could tell us her story`s 👍
This is SO fantastic... I love it !!!
Thanks Mel!
Ah, the Gooney Bird. Homely and ungainly, but oddly beautiful and graceful at the same time. Thank you for preserving this history and keeping it flying.
most excellent
Now this takes me back in time.
Great vid Mark..as usual...
Thanks Brian!
It's music to my ears.

Totally gorgeous videography! Thanks for sharing!
Thank you sir!
Lovely work
Thank you!
Fantastic, thanks! 👍
Thank you, glad you liked it!
GREAT STUFF - and good, simple solid video editing work. This will one day prove to be a historic piece of fooage, not only for the aircraft but the coastline up to and including Sydney as of Dec 2020 ..... and all on a crystal clear day. I will forward to aviation buffs around the world. Brilliant. I should add - my last flights in a DC3 were in PNG, and at a time when the airstrip IN Lae was in operation as distinct from running the raskol gauntlet and potholes out to Nadzab.
Oh .... and they leaked!
@@petercunningham2339 thanks for your kind comment! The DC-3, or C-47 in this case, is an amazing aeroplane and it is such a privilege to part of the crew that operates it. Many of our crew members operated them in PNG and I love hearing their stories. If you're in the Sydney area, you might just see us do it again this Friday (around lunch time) - Victor One to Long Reef and then into the Harbour and out through the Heads.
@@markfromharsaviationmuseum4 Thanks, but I'm up in Mitagong - nearby but not close enough to see! I visited HARS @ NOv las year and will bring down/donate some 'stuff' I found on WW2 aircraft in PNG .... better used by you lot than looked at by me.
The DC3, aka Dakota.Wonderful part of aviation history and still looks like an aeroplane should look like!!
Thanks for your comment Les! The DC-3 / C-47 is an amazing aeroplane. We now have five of them in our collection and it is our goal to eventually have all five in the air at once. I can't imagine what ten Pratt and Whitney R-1830s would sound like!
