It's probably because they are subject to regulations and taxations where they operate. It's not unheard of. The means they provide to accept donations usually have the least expenditure route to ensure the organization is able to retain operational costs while giving the most possible value to those they try to help. No "Charitable organization" gives "100% of proceeds" to anybody, that's bullshit because they still have to pay their dues. If not, they'd be operating at a loss. For a NPO now it's even worse, because they need to prove that the funds they raise are theirs through the means they stipulated and no other entity has a say in how their funds are used. The ledgers need to prove EVERY cent. It's easier to make people donate through your channels than try to trace and document money from multiple sources.
It's surprising how little help there is here in Scotland, I lost my job a couple months ago and have been struggling just to eat half the time and there are some charities but most of the time there are so many hoops to jump through before you qualify it makes it impossible sometimes
