Thanks for including that great Peter Nardini song, "I blew a kiss from Wishaw Cross" that he wrote when his daughter emigrated to California while he was an art teacher at St Aiden's school in Wishaw (Coltness?). Beautifully sung by Terry Neason.
That's amazing I love the song about wishy, I sent it to my auntie and uncle who emigrated many moons ago to NJ, they used to visit wishy to see us all, she loved it also, but I never new Peter Nardini wrote it, and also never new he was art teacher, you have made Google him and he was actually my art teacher at St Aidens ha ha ha and probably the only teacher who gave me a complement about my work adviceing me to stay on because I had a talent, he said, did I listen did I wit, ha ha ha Ended up a joiner so still working with my hands, small world, hope yer well Rob,
@@peterrussell5216 Wow! What a co-incidence. Peter's in his 70s now, still lives in Lanarkshire and is still a prolific painter and songwriter; and his daughter's still in California. There are quite a few of his quirky songs, mostly sung in a Bob Dylan style on TH-cam. Thanks for the memories...
Thanks for that, I'll go have a look, new he was a teacher but never new he was singer or songwriter, I've made a few videos mostly scenic ones but had to do one of Wishaw it's had a fair few veiws and alot of comments are from people who don't live here anymore, it's just a hobby me and my daughter have, magic for getting me out and about and great for the heid ha ha ha cheers Rob
' Grew up in West Coltness in the 60s and 70s, so knew Wishaw very well in those days. Yes, I remember drinking in "The Stag" and those hideous "new" Flats. Went back to visit (from the USA) a few years back, and although there are still many places I remember, I felt like a stranger. I guess a lot of water has passed under the (Calder) bridge since the 1970s...
Respect 👍👏👏👏👏
Thanks seems a long time ago lol
My late mother grew up in wishaw in the paver area...she left in about 1970.
Hi there, Paver you from London ha ha ha I know pather well, was born in 1970, stay 1 minute walk under railway bridge to paver, cheers
@@peterrussell5216 well my mum was born in motherwell then moved to the paver..she left around the 1970 period..good for me she did lol
It's "Pather", not Paver, but pronounced similarly.
@@robrenwick4591 my apologies.

@@peterrussell5216 Dirt Rally in VR bro....
@@peterrussell5216 Soz had to pop out so short message earlier, Bro I bought Star Wars Squadron for the PSVR, And for a little change from sim racing it's perfect lol, I'm stuck on a level tho so not been on it for few weeks but still if I wants a blast in the VR, Even tho it's only a PSVR Star Wars is surprisingly good... But yeah Dirt Rally got be really good in VR, Best sounding sim racing game there is, Dirty Rally 2 is still a top sim game that's for sure....
My family used to go to Wishaw on holiday!!? My Grandmother had a sister who lived in Waverly Drive opposite the kids playpark along with a parkeeper with massive keys to lock the big heavy iron gates Also just 5 mins walk and we were there for hrs on end Wishy baths And a selection of cinemas And we all piled into Bairds for lunch Happy memories home 🏡 from home 🏡 this all happened in the 60s into 70s my Aunty died many years ago. Her cousin was The VC William Clamp form WW 1 but i havnt been in Wishaw for 30 years Im originally from Kilbirnie
Wishaw on holiday never herd that before ha ha remember wishy baths, and bellhaven Park still there in video, glad you enjoyed, where do you stay now,
@@peterrussell5216 i now live in Largs just over the hills from Kilbirnie
Now Largs that's a holiday destination, was there Monday and Tuesday last week monday at millport, Tuesday went to ayr but stopped at the fish works on way home for an amazing fish suppers, 1 of my previous videos was shot in Largs and going across to millport on ferry, was a beautiful day
Used to go putting (mini golf) in that (Belhaven) Park, and paddling in the kiddies pool (both now gone). They knocked the Wishae Baths down years ago (don't know why). Baird's department store is long gone, but the building is still there, as is the former gatehouse to the Coltness Estate on the corner of Kenilworth Avenue where the taxi rank was (public toilets).
I grew up there in the fifties done my apprenticeship as an electrician there ,once I got on my feet earning money ,my father was a waster kept asking for money got fucking sick of it ,So I emigrated to Australia to get rid of him ,the moral of that is be a good father to your kids or youl loose them ,iv never been back since ,no regrets ,since iv been out in Australia iv met a few guys from different parts of the UK with similar tales of there youth about bad parents so we all run away to Australia
I can understand that. My father came from Hamilton in Lanarkshire. He went to Sydney and left 2 wives and children. 1 in Glasgow and the other in Sheffield. He married my mother in Sydney and she never found out about the 2 previous. If she did she never said. He was always a difficult man and a very good singer and was on TV in Sydney in 1956 when TV just started. But he always had a bad temper and if any band members played the wrong note he would give them a Glasgow kiss.
Boo effing Hoo. Find a therapist 😂
Imagine if she falls down on the bad🤣😅
Wow! Best dad ever! I love it. Beautiful
Thanks very much, but I'm her auld papa lol
My first flat was 10 Roberts st, at the back. There was a gate through to the Stag bar were I invested most of my money! James Hunter and sons not there anymore or Stewarts removals.
The stag bar where we got to watch Bruce Lee on video (amazing at the time) ha ha ha 70 ish
Mackay and Jardine's garage at the bottom cross also long gone (was later a Tesco and now flats I think).
@@peterrussell5216 Lots of pubs used to show films when those big screen TVs first came out. Until the copyright inspectors started coming round, and that was the end of that.
Wow this one cost
Only about £250 for matirials and alot of hrs work
What an excellent video, Thank you 😊

I left Wishy in 1980 to Regina Saskatchewan, Canada .... havent been back .... Went to St Ignatious then St Aindens.... Mum was born in 1932 in WIshaw, but Dad was from Larkhall, (i know what you're thinking!!... "How in the HELL did those 2 get the 'gether?") ,lol ...well they met at Phillips in the early 50s! ....we last lived on Walkerburn Dr.... feelin auld ya Bam!!
Ma father was orange and ma mother she was green sure there's a song about that, if yer feeling auld it's cause ye ir, ya bampot, Canada AAAAA, LOL
Up yer hale ya screamo!
Aye, St. Aiden's was a Roman Catholic school and as for Larkhall, they used to say "what's green and lives in a tree? A Catholic in Larkhall" 😅

I grew up in Wishaw where my Dad was the minister of Chalmers Church (now Wishaw South) seen at the right of the frame around 7:16. I moved away in 1981 and I haven't set foot in Wishaw since 2001. A lot has changed (what in heaven's name has happened to Kenilworth Avenue?) and I was struggling to recognise quite a few locations but it was an interesting watch. Many thanks for posting the video.
I was 11 in 1981, just about to hit the parish Disco, ha ha also grew up in wishaw flats, cheers for your comments bud, 👍
Hi! My family belonged to the then Chalmers Church when George Griffiths was minister, my family were regular attenders but me not so much. I was in my teens then, long hair, motor bikes and all. Occasionally when I heard via my mum that Georges (I think it was a James motorcycle) had broken down I would pop in to the manse unannounced, longhair, leather jacket etc. on my 650cc Triumph and fix the problem for him. I often wondered what he thought of this renegade kid who didn't go to church but was happy to help him out by fixing his bike. I'm now 83 living in New Zealand. Cheers
What is the mounting angle of the pedals
Its the toon noak!!
Aye, that's what the auld yins used tae cry it.
Can’t wait to watch this in 50 years with a year in my eye. Fantastic video mate, so much detail and you’ve left nothing out.
Cheers. I made it for friend who stays in London, hadn't seen Wishaw in years. It was made in days before masks social distancing and covit. No be long till there back lol

Really cool build. I am looking for ideas to build my daughter a similar bed. How did you make to tower point?
Went on TH-cam watched how to build paper cone, cut hardboard to same shape, soaked it both sides, rolled it into shape, let in dry, then filled it with fastest plaster, sanded it, good luck
Where in the county do you live ?
Wishaw North Lanarkshire
Peter Russell thank you I would of drove the 7 hours to collect just slightly out of budget but great job and thank you kindly for your offer 👌

awsome video. NOT,
Awesome comment, get yourself a happy meal pal
Great video, makes me homesick
Am getting homesick too, an I stay here, stay safe
Great video makes me sick, glad to be away from the inbred place! Shite-hole!
How did you make the cones on top of the bookshelves? It looks like you rolled cardboard then covered in plaster?
I used hardboard, soaked it, clamped it round traffic cone, the tip started to crumble a bit, that's where the fastset easy sand plaster came it, soak it, roll it, let it dry out..
