How to get help for your child struggling in school
Have you seen the state of our schools have you seen the "teachers" on tiktok promoting their own agenda
If you live in CA, you have to hire a lawyer in order to get the school district to approve the IEP.
How do you find out if the iep is being implemented with fidelity? Ask to observe periodically?...
I agree
They let my son down and he finally gave up and dropped outAll children that teachers KNOW they might have a disability should get tested . Especially when they start elementary, middle or high that should be a must . Now my son is 20 and never got tested and is lost bc he doesnt fit in . I as a parent am just as lost as he is on how to help him .
Abolish the DoE
Also, make sure to push for a 504 plan. It helps a lot.
So 4 roughly time a year? I ask this because it’s always like pulling teeth and the school likes to wait until the end of the year
Yes. Most schools provide a report card every 9 weeks. If they don’t provide it, ask for it. 😉
Thank you so much for your videos and information! Are school administrators allowed to omit their names in the meeting notes/IEP document(s)?
No, they are not. They can say things like “the administrator.” But, the administrator should still be listed on the list of meeting attendees. The meeting notes should be comprehensive and indicate who said what, if not by name then by role.
@@dannettetaylor It’s good to have my suspicions confirmed. Thank you for responding ☺️
I am thinking about locking my hair...
Yes to this 💯
I absolutely agree as a child with mental disorders that gets therapy inside and outside of school.
As a teacher I was required to be there. Once, the goal for the student was, he would bring a pencil to class ... Another time the person chatting the meeting had to leave the meeting 4 times before we even began to get materials she forgot - and she had called the meeting. When people criticize the education system remember, we are trying to educate each citizen; and the burden is pretty heavy - universal K-12, regardless of skill or motivation. Very few other countries are making the same attempt.
I had a 3rd party (Mission Hospital Children's Specialist) do some testing.on my son because I didn't trust what the school's testing said. He has ADHD, which we already knew, but he is dyslexic as well. I took the test results and told them that the hospital said he needed to be taught differently because of the dyslexia and the school told me that even with his IEP that they teach one way because thats how the "majority " learns and they would not teach him with the Orton- Gillingham method. Inasked if there were.other kids that had been diagnosed with dyslexia and of course they "couldn't tell me that", but the looks on their faces said everything. So I said "Im willing to bet there are others in this school so its not like you would be doing it for just one" and they basically just ended the conversation and told me to sign the "plan" they had came up with...that was many many years ago. He is about to start high school and only on a 6th grade reading level
Inspiration and application. Grateful 🙏 for trusting his growth 🙏 Amen. ❤
Don’t forget the IEP is a legal binding document..
You forgot special needs account
Okay but what does this mean? For instance at my child there was the principal his teacher a woman another gentleman and myself and a husband !
What is an able account????
It is an account specifically for individuals with disabilities. The beauty of an able account is that it allows money to be saved without impacting the individuals Social Security benefits up to a certain amount.
I think this happen to me!
I had an IEP and in Resource we would just sit at the desk and talk me and the other kids. Never learned shit...
I attended my child’s IEP meeting and only one person (the important one) was present…then another teacher added herself. You won’t believe her reasoning…she was my neighbor as well as my child’s teacher and it was to air some dirty neighborhood laundry. 😳
Good choice! Well done!!
Thank you
❤
I have been advocating for the students in my district where my daughter also attends school. It absolutely comes at a cost.
I know it does. But I believe people like you will be blessed for it!
❤❤❤❤❤❤❤
Yup! I sho do!
Amazing! Good for him!!
The robots are coming
What is resource class ??
#1 Don’t vaccinate your child and there’s no need for an IEP.
Iep actually made teachers not like me a lot of teachers thought I didn’t need “ special treatment” and let me know they felt that way
She was mumbling for number one. Totally could not understand what she said.
Same! I played it 3 times and said the exact same thing. All I heard was infidelity
Hey, just a heads up if you dont want to get in trouble with copywrite. After you watch a video, you should expand more on it and add your thoughts as well. Maybe explain some of the terms she used. You'll get longer videos (yay watch time) with more information and improve viewer interaction. Also, since youve got the Dr. title it's best to put a disclaimer in the front of your videos stating things like: these are your opinions and nothing said can be construed as medical advice, that sort of thing. Just as a CYA.
Yessss! You must be a advocate for your child and stay on them
Every mother's dream to say something once and not have to repeat yourself.
Wow! Does denying services save the school money or something?
Saves time and money for people who are getting paid to provide these services to you. They lied to me like this too. A buddy of mine got denied because his grades were "too high"
Yes, it does.
No one has ever said this to me before and my autistic daughter is now 9. I wouldn’t say I’m overly repetitive but I have found myself repeating things. She is also nonverbal.
This makes so much sense to me
Oh God yes. But this is true for young neurotypical children too, especially in a multilingual family! It's a part of language development!
This applies to individuals who are verbal as well. My oldest is very verbal but has a speech/auditory processing disorder as part of his ASD. It takes a bit for the question to get to his brain, be processed, and for his response to make its way out
Excellent advice
Oh wow! I have a very verbal 18 yr old mate diagnosed with autism but high IQ & ADHD plus anxiety. I will try saying it once and waiting. My dad often thinks she is being disrespectful or ignoring him at supper but I have told him to give her time to process and decide what to say. She is quite brilliant but likes to rehearse in her head before she speaks.
Yeah! Exactly! Great way to explain it. It’s very frustrating when people repeat over and over it doesn’t give me a moment to process.
At home, you can make some adjustments for him, which is great. In the outside world however, HE needs to adjust. as much as possible, as soon as possible.
Yeah you’re stupid
Nope. You can’t force him to adjust away his disability. Autism is not a curable condition. She is clearly trying to understand him and support him in learning his best way of doing things, but no, he cannot simply adjust quickly or perfectly to the world’s way of doing things. We shouldn’t expect him to be like an allistic kid because he isn’t. He’s going to learn how to do things the best way that works for HIM, not for the world. Also, repeating the questions and making it harder for him to process can cause frustration which makes it harder for him to learn. When you’re frustrated it’s harder to do things and learn things. No reason to do that unnecessarily. Is it really so hard for you to wait 10 seconds for someone with a slower processing time to answer?
This is like telling a paraplegic that they'll have to get used to using stairs--deeply unhelpful and not generally feasible.
This!! I'm autistic and if someone asks me over and over, all it does is fluster me because I don't have any space to truly process it! 😭
Who are you
Damn good job! Keep it up and have fun! Shout out!!!
Yeeessahhhhhh!!!!!
Best of luck!
