The warm resonant sound is achieved by having some of the reeds (e.g the Voix Celeste) detuned a little so they are either a tiny bit sharp or flat. When our ears hear this in combination with the other (in-tune) reeds, we perceive it as a gentle tremulant sound. It is one of the beautiful hallmarks of the reed organ’s voice.

@@Quentiny_ well yes tho that isn’t quite what i meant. To clarify = certain ranks of reeds on a reed organ are detuned on purpose and to the same degree so that this sound is achieved. The whole instrument can go out of tune but on the whole a reed organ keeps pitch well for years and much more reliably than pipe organs.
