CYMBAL SPOT MICING FOR METAL | THE CRASH
A DEEP INTO THE DIVE CRASH :D
A long video, with microphone shootouts, getting deep into positions and just trying to learn and understand spot micing crashes on a deeper level.

I saw a great video about how to play the cymbals, but unfortunatley i can't find it.

Theres something like this … but for guitars? (Not expensive and súper good)
Honestly both of these work on guitars too. But demonfx has a bunch of guitar pedals too that i plan to try out in the future 😁
@ I will check too … thanks bro
excellent video. i usually point right down at the middle as it's the position that is least subjected to the movement and undulation of the cymbal when hit. transient information seems the most pronounced with the edge position and the under-miked position has the best off-axis rejection though
Thank you! Yeah i think for my taste i'm gonna try a few different positions in between the center and the middle position, both above and below. I did not like the edge at all though, so i will stay clear of the edge 😂 I found the undulation very interesting, because in the center you could hear it go up and down, but it was very dynamic, very much preserving the hard and soft hits. While the middle position was very even sounding. So i think it's gonna be a trick i pull out depending on the drummer and the project. If the drummer is good it's nice to preserve that natural dynamics, if he isnt, then the more even sound of the middle will help a ton. I love how this test both answered some of my own questions, but also gave me a ton of new ones 😂
The best ADD boys... Ehm, men 😜
Just men loving men 😁
Very useful tests. Thanks!
Thanks for watching!
No noise or hist?
I wouldn't say it's any more than most pedals no :)
I have the Booster. I think it is a really good preamp pedal for the money. I dont play this genre but I can see it working as a front end for anything really. I also bought the D7K and thought it was junk. I am interested in the compressor now... I have the Warm Audio 76 and 2a but I am thinking of setting up a pedal board..
Yeah to be honest the booster was a real surprise to me, i liked it alot more than i thought i would. The compressor wasn't a letdown by any means, but it kind of tamed in comparison to the booster. But that was just my expectations getting turned upside down, i still like the compressor alot :D
The 120A was used in club systems to spice the low-end up, they are great if not overused. It's easy to go overboard with them. It's a nice add on to the sonic pallet, I definitely would sell mine it's a great tool imo.
love the videos brother keep it up :)
Thank you man! Really appreciate it and glad to have you here 🤘
Nice work brother! So are you using the board for tracking and mixing? Summing? Also, what are those channel strips on the monitor? 1
Thanks man! The board is only used for tracking, i do all mixing in my other studio at home 😊 They are Tore Seem channelstrips. Norwegian broadcast console with Lundahl transformers and inductor eq's. They sound great! Used on the far room mics 😊
If you're interested in modding cheap mics-- checks out uher reel to reel mics. I've gotten a bunch for super cheap, then i throw an xlr connector on instead of the 5 pin. They sound great. Being in Europe, you can probably find them even cheaper. The shure knock off doesn't sound too bad.
Yeah i used to buy a bunch back in the day, like telefunken td20's and similar mics that came with reel to reel machines. They are really cool and fun. I didn't find much use for them but could absolutley make a interesting video 😊
Also thanks for the nudge to give these another go 😁
sanding while the console is open, good idea :)
Thanks ;) The next video is me going through the back panel/inside and there was no dust in it at all. FYI :)
@@worshipnothingstudios666 good glad to hear that :)
@dblbassdrumer i wasn't very concerned about dust, as i was mostly just knocking off the big blobs and spikes so most of it just fell straight down. There was very little actual sanding (i think i explained it better in the video before this one). But i understand and appreciate your concern, that is some nasty dust that gets everywhere so if i did i would have covered most of the room in plastic 😂
This old equipment is so cool. Also awesome to see someone else restoring it and keeping it going. I tend to repair a lot of vintage amps, but i've been learning about compressor circuits recently. Your channel is right up my alley. Subscribed!
Thank you man, very much appreciated! Once i'm getting closer to be finished with the rehearsal studio i'll come back to this and more diy material again 😊
I wonder if it's wired for unbalanced?
That could very well be it, i'll try it and see if it's less noisy that way 😊
You hit the nail on the head! Tried it with the redicilously bad cables that they were shipped with and no noise! Guess i gotta solder som unbalanced wire and do a revisit of that video 😂
Super interesting! I have this compressor lying around unused. I'll have to try it out now!
Get it! Plug it in! Play around with it! I'm sure you'll find something creative to do with it 😁
Kul att få hänga med på den här resan!
Kul att du följer 😁
so sick! love how that desk turned out! the mixer sitting on the top looks so clean. 🔥
Thanks man! Really appreciate it ❤️
Hell yeah, I’m definitely inspired to find really old gear now. Those Teac preamps look really cool. I’m excited to see what those sound like
Awesome, glad i could inspire you! Yeah those teacs are something else! Once i get some time to solder i'll be sure to make a demo on my unit 😁
Now thats what you call a demo. Thanks for this.
Hey thank you for watching! I'll do more of these in the future with some more gear 😊
@@worshipnothingstudios666 You have a great channel. I love the way you make videos without any fluff. You get straight to it and give an an honest opinion. Thanks 🙏 much appreciated
I'm so glad you say that! I dont consider myself a youtuber so i dont really wanna do all that fluff. I'm just a producer who talks to myself enough that i thought i might as well put a camera in my face and somebody might get something out of it 😂 So i'm really glad 😁
@@worshipnothingstudios666 I just got myself the Yamaha - and I use like a dirty guitar effects pedal now haha - its awesome. It is terrible on vocal so flippin harsh. I opened it up and it is really well made unit with great components. Cheers
So glad you got it, i hope it will treat you as well as it's treated me 😁
How exactly are you getting that gurgling bass tone? Is it the pickups? I've been trying to get this sound but can't. I'm working with fenders and seymore duncan pickups. Scylla compressor, and a b3k
Unfortunatley it seems like the bass i use is not available anymore. But it was a stingray type bass from Pit bull guitars with just a cheap passive pickup. Strings are Warwick Dark Lord set with the tuning at f#, b, e, a. 34" scale length. It sounds way better with new strings but that bass has a very throaty sound, and i love it. I only wish it had a little longer scale length. It was a diy kit so i've done a bunch of mods to it, but nothing to the sound, it was mostly for playability. The sound is 100% in the bass and combination of pickup, setup and bass type. Hope that helps you. If the bass doesn't sound the way you want it to clean, pedals won't really help you, atleast not all the way.
Do you have a link to buy these? I tried amazon but they are pricing these pedals way higher than they should😂
Yeah check them out on Aliexpress. Most things on Amazon is like half the price on Ali, for the same stuff 😂 But the price can also fluctuate up and down a bit
First!
Hell yeah Jussi!
Those vocals are insane 😂
Thank you, done by yours truly 😁
love the dbx 120....... and the peavey Kosmos...... cool video :)
Thanks man, appreciate it!
That thing sounds awesome. Keeps it together much better in the low end than the Sansamps which sound kinda farty to be honest, especially with higher drive settings.
Yeah i do like the RBI's low end extension, it goes further down in the low end and that's nice sometimes. But the diy pedal is tighter like you said. The Programmable came in 3rd place every time for me so i sold it 2 days after making the video 😂
@@worshipnothingstudios666 Yeah, same. I would've bet money on B being the kit pedal until the reveal :D
Yepp 100% and alot of my friends did 😂
Have you seen the video when igorrrr records a burning 4x12 until it stops sounding? Use the mics for that? True art!
Hahaha i have not, but it sounds like fun! 😂
Sounds like the perfect snare mic with build in constant wire rattle!!
Hahaha that's one way to look at it. I mean if i want to make a intro with someone talking and some ambient noise and stuff they could be used for sound design. But that's like the only use i can think of for them. And i dont need 3 of them, one is enough 😂
great - now what mics I dont have to buy😁
Dont know if i said it in the video, but DONT. BUY. THESE. MICS!! 😂
@@worshipnothingstudios666 I think you've said that once, or maybe twice😂
DONT BUY THESE MICS! 😂
Great video! I am unfamiliar with this sort of equipment, do the effects apply only to recordings? Can you link the racks with a software to apply effects?
Nah i use all my hardware when mixing so it's not only for recording. You can route them through your DAW, each DAW does it differently though. But you also need enough inputs and outputs on your interface so that you can dedicate those to your hardware 😊
Video quality is just getting better and better!
I try ❤️
I'd like to have a Swahn Clone, preferably pocketsized
I'll put a baby in you ❤️ 😂
Ah now I realize how it is to put on that paper on the box hahaha
Nice video! And cool Studio! Can it be, that you've labeled the left switch wrong? To me (at least with my B3K built) it sounds like it's boost, flat cut (top-mid-btm)
Yeah that is very possible and i hear the same thing. I remember looking in the documents if there was any mention of it being different, and since there wasn't, i assumed it would be the same as the original 😂
@@worshipnothingstudios666 I had to check mine with a frequency analyzer.. I wish they would add these kind of infos to the documentation. Cheers!
Yeah 100%! I feel like most diy guitar pedal companies skimp on the documentation 😅
Sounds good Chris...i missed the whole thing, right?😢
Nice dude
Thanks dudeio!
Great video as always Coffe!!
Thanks brotherino ❤️
Very minimal differences. I prefer A even though it's a bit darker. B is somewhat more snappy, which is nice, but it also sounds harsher. Minor differences but sticking with A.
Since the video has been out for a while i might as well answer 😊 A is Line Audio cm4 and B is the neumann's 😁
@@worshipnothingstudios666 I knew it! There's no bad microphone imho, independent of price, each mic can find a perfect application or just give its own flavour of the recording.
100% agreed. Microphones and guitar pedals. It can technically be the worst sounding mic/pedal ever, but used on the right thing, it'll be awesome 😁
Vilket jävla meck 👹👍
Japp, visst ser det kul ut? 😁
@@worshipnothingstudios666 mjaaaa 😆
Guess I need to buy another pedal kit 🙌
Do it! Different opamps made quite a difference to the sound so get a couple of extras to play around with, you wont regret it :)
@@worshipnothingstudios666 which one do you recommend?
The one i went with was the OPA134, it just had better fidelity to my ears and it's the one in the examples. The Nichicon electrolytics and wima made a tiny difference as well, but not as much as the opamp
A big thank you for doing all the techincal and maintenance work on the gear! Also for filming, it's interesting watching the process of getting these ready for some work! :D

B are the Neumanner. A sounds overcast and not as focused. The mids aren't emphasized either, just cleaner. I can't be wrong, so don't tell me😁 Robin MUST be wrong!
I like B more so I’m guessing that’s Neumann, because it “should” sound better. 🤌
