2024 Durston X-Mid Pro 2 Plus with Dyneema Floor | What’s New | First Pitch | Ultralight Tent
มุมมอง 13Kปีที่แล้ว
Hello everyone. Welcome to my channel. I’m very excited to put up this overview video of the new 2024 Durston X-Mid pro 2 plus with dyneema floor. I’ve been wanting to get my hands on this tent (regular pro2) for awhile, but every time I go on Durston website, it was never available. I guess it’s kind of a good thing now that i waited and I didn’t get the regular pro2 and got this even better a...
This video is pure magic
I’m dreaming about doing this in the southern Appalachian in Tennessee where it was snowing two days ago as we speak I hope that this Christmas season and I get to camp somewhere where it knows close to home because hearing an upstate South Carolina we may not see any this yearbut 2 1/2 hours three hours away. They just seen a lot two days ago in Tennessee.
There’s something about the snow and camping. It just makes the experience that much better.
This tent looks awesome. Just bought one like yours and I'm waiting for a weather change, to check it out.
This tent is very nice. It can be enjoyed all year round. In the hot summer, we’ll set it up along with using a portable air conditioning unit. In the cold weather, which we prefer, we’ll set up using the wood stove, it’s much more cozier. Hope you enjoy your tent.
@@thuokadventure Last weekend I had a chance to test it out for the first time and I'm loving it. Combined with diesel heater it's very comfortable camping, even when outside temperatures are below freezing.
Thank you for this really nice video. The bright lighting and the nice slow pace gives a really close look at this tent. It looks great.
Want it, but I dont need it, but i still really really want it!!! LOL
Nice review, covered a lot

Thanks.

Thanks for creating this amazing in depth review! We are still looking for the perfect tent for us to take on the PCT and our Sweden adventures. Would you recommend this tent for two people with quite a lot of camera equipment to store in the tent with us? Looking forward to your reply. Greetings from The Netherlands. Deen & Alette, Hikaholics
Hello Deen and Alette, it is always nice to hear from people from different parts of the world. My son and I just recently got back from a backpacking trip using this tent in -8° C weather conditions. We are both about 5’10”(1.7 meter) tall. I used a 25” (63.5 cm) wide pad and he used 20”(50.8 cm) sleeping pad and I did felt it was a bit crowded with our backpacking gears along with a small portion of camera gears inside the tent with us. We decided to leave our packs out in the vestibule and only bring camera gears and any other necessary gears that is needed to be inside, and that really made a big difference. However, as you may have experienced, camping in this cold conditions regardless of single or double wall tent, there’s always that layer of frost build up inside the tent whether the vents are open or closed. That being said, you do not want to overcrowd the space inside this tent just to prevent gears/equipment from getting moisture by touching or rubbing against the tent walls because this tent does condensate and has frost built up as well. Now with its durability, ease of setting up and space to weight ratio, I do recommend this tent. But in your case with “quite a lot of camera equipment” that depends on how we strategically position our camera equipment and our camping gears inside this tent. Hope this helps.
I find it soothing to use fire wood when the tree is on the floor and not able to grow back
Nice. Appreciate the feedback.
Dead wood will also burn better as it has less moisture in it!
Why, Why are there no pics of 2 people sitting upright in these tents? It's a 2p tent right? not a 2 pad tent? So put 2 people in it and take a pic. Most camera's have a wide angle lens, so use that. Put 2 people siting shoulder to shoulder in the tent and take a pic. Unitl you do that, this review is just an unboxing.
The giant steak is for cinematic effect, yeah?
You know it😉 and beside with the belly running on low.
Still happy with the purchase?I’m thinking of trading my hilleberg nallo and nemo dragonfly for one x mid that I can use all year round.
Oh absolutely. Loving the ease of set up and especially the space to weight ratio. The condensation/ frost build up would be the only down side with this tent especially during freezing conditions. However, with the space and weight savings, i’d rather deal with the condensation which can easily be wiped up with a swedish cloth or pack towel. I appreciate the comments. Hope that helps.
Thanks for the setup and explanation. Well done.
Absolutely. Thanks👍
Just came across you vid, and really appreciated it. I only just heard of Durston Gear in the past but never spent much time investigating until now, and I am an AVID Backpacker who loves great gear! I have 2 Zpacks tents that have loved, but also have known improvements could be made (especially for taller people like me), and not needing to be as complicated to setup. They have changed some of their designs, and I suspect it is because of the Durstan design. Fascinating tent design. Love free enterprise! Will be trying out their gear for sure!
Yes indeed. I did look into the Zpack tents with their new (Offset) designs before purchasing the Xmid. Seems pretty spacious, however, it was a deal breaker for me because of the extra steps of having to guy out the head/ foot end of the tent with the extra poles that’s included, compared to pitching the xmid. As always, I really appreciate the feedback and thanks for watching.
I'm back jack!!!
There’s only one person I know that makes that comment. It’s good to hear from you, ol’ friend.
Glad you're liking the tent. Thanks for giving my gear a try :) - Dan
I have to say, Dan, it is a very in demand tent. And I can certainly see why, this tent check-marked most of everyone’s criteria, well, at least for me. For being extremely light weight, ease of setting up, very spacious that fits two wide pad, packability , and durability. Not so much on pricing though, but I suppose, it is within the price range compared to other dcf tents. Anyways, thanks for the comment.
@@thuokadventure Yeah the price is a tough one. I try to make our gear affordable but also want to do high quality. We have less markup then other DCF brands but we have higher costs using pre-shrunk DCF (adds 10%), making the tent larger, hot bonding adhesives are expensive, premium zippers etc. It would be great if the cost of DCF is reduced but they've been saying that for years.
NO one talks but, Durston (X-Mid) cloned this tent from the Sierra Designs - High Route 3000 1P 🙂 this tent was released several years earlier than X-mid...
Well done: specific, thorough, and clear.
Can you use sticks rather than hiking poles? I don’t use hiking poles and I camp in the East where there are woods and fallen trees
You certainly can. The peak height is 49 inches(124cm) but I would find sticks that’s a little longer, then shove any little extra into the ground if needed for the perfect tautness. Round off the tip of the pole for the top end and smoothen out any sharp limbs from the stick to prevent possible punctures to the tent. Tip: Find the stick that has a little “y” limb about 4-5inches from the top tip of the pole. This is great for hanging gears off the ground. I would still recommend hiking poles though, for the conveniency and being able to adjust the height for when the ground is not level.
You need to hit the back of the room, even when using a mic.
🤔Thanks, I’ll try that next time.
How's the condensation? It only has those two small vents above the doors, and the door zippers and not two-way for some reason, so you cannot open them from the top for more ventilation.
I’ve yet to try this in a condensation prone conditions. As a single wall tent, I’m expecting condensation. However, (I forgot to mention this in the video) there are mesh gutters inside on both ends of the tent so any condensation form will bead off into the mesh gutters and not onto the bathtub floor. I will keep a look out and give an update on that.
I like it , but i don't like the transparency, no privacy. So, for that reason, I'm out. Thank you for the video
Great walk-through! Can't wait to get my hands on one of those.
Thanks! It’s a pretty awesome tent.
I bought this tent with the non-DCF silnylon floor and now I’m so glad I did. I had been concerned about the potential for a noisy floor - and the concerns now seem well founded. You can hear the loudness of your every movement! This past season I got stuck in a shelter with a hiker that had one of those thermarest sleeping pads that people complain about being so loud. Every time she moved it woke the rest of us in the shelter. Can’t help but think this DCF on the floor will be exactly the same. Happy to carry a couple extra ounces for a good night’s sleep.
Just FYI the DCF will stop crinkling over time, maybe after 2 trips, from stuffing and unstuffing.
@@tanvachvery important that you don’t stuff the DCF tent. Rolling it up is the way to go.
@@NordenzurZukunft yup you need to roll first to avoid pinholes and shrinkage. Just a convenient verb to mean ‘put it back into the stuff sack’
Actually, I did notice the loud crinkly sound when laying/ moving around directly on the dcf floor, now that you mentioned it. However, after I inflated the pads and moved around/ laid on them, I did not notice the crinkly sound from the dcf floor anymore but rather just the subtle sound from the sleeping pads.
Non dcf floor is much noisier with a pad. It’s the friction and its load. Dcf is definitely much quieter. What I did was put an old piece of tyvek between the thermarest and the nylon floor and it worked.
Cool! Very good for backpacking due to size and weight. The down side of this is the pricing. Pretty expensive, but if I had that type of money I’d might buy it 😂
There is a silpoly version of this tent which is less than half the price of the dcf version and still pretty light weight that weighs 36oz / 1020g I believe.
Are they made in China?@@thuokadventure
Thanks for the nice review! 👍 very nice tent! But it's too expensive and not worth the money in my opinion! There are knock offs out there which weights only 250g (4 season version) more and costs round about 150 bugs quit ! 🤗
Thanks, I’m glad you like the video.
Got a dcf version too. Absolutely love it! Little things like pre shrunk fabric, bonded seams, one hand opening and securing of all doors, size, etc make it perfect for me. Only downside I’ve seen is initial price. Ps the durston flickloc poles are awesome too and a good value imo.
Certainly have to agree with the price of this tent being on the steeper end. It is a pretty awesome tent though especially with the simplicity of pitching and ease of operating. I did thought about maybe getting the flick poles later in the future. They look very useful when not hiking with trekking poles.
