My subscribers know that sometimes I post multiple versions of a scene-- I am often unsure of how much to include. My first goal is to highlight memorable performances. Then, I like for the clips to tell a story or to suggest a story, and to set a tone. I imagine that some of my audience have not seen the film and others are viewing an old favorite. Some feature films were originally structured to make coming up with a clip easy. Others need pieces of preceding or subsequent scenes to provide impact or context. If I can't decide on a balance, I might post more than one version.
Copyright restrictions sometimes limit me to a certain time length, and then I may post a scene in two parts. I'm grateful most copyright holders of films allow scenes to be posted-- usually in exchange for letting them run ads. Which makes me insecure, since I don't know what they are advertising. The products and services may be great, or they may, for social reasons, be something I cannot endorse.

Garbo laughs (not for long) -- with Freddie Bartholomew in Anna Karenina
Garbo won the very first New York Film Critics Award for Best Actress for Anna Karenina, 1935-- a year that also saw Katharine Hepburn in Alice Adams and Bette Davis in Dangerous. This is the Garbo performance, I think, about which Graham Greene, in the midst of highly praising Garbo's acting, slipped in that sometimes watching her is "more work than play." She is occasionally tedious here-- Anna's passion for Fredric March's Vronsky barely registers. She is oddly indifferent with Basil Rathbone, very moving as Anna's haughty husband Karenin. Perhaps that's how it should be -- certainly, as he says, Anna chooses to misunderstand him.
But with young Freddie Bartholomew, Garbo is magical-- Anna comes to life with her son and when she is thinking of him. And Freddie Bartholomew plays to her and with her. Directed by Clarence Brown for MGM.
Another in the "Garbo laughs! -- before Ninotchka" series.

I despise the human race sometimes, what an evil and destructive species some humans can be.
I saw a stage production of this musical with the original songs and it was incredibly good but I still felt it was missing something without Mein Herr and Maybe this time. Liza was just that iconic. I'm glad some later productions include these songs

You have to understand the way I am, mein herr. A tiger is a tiger, not a lamb, mein herr. You'll never turn the vinegar to jam, mein herr. So I do, what I do. When I'm through, then I'm through. And I'm through, toodle oo. Bye bye mein lieber herr, farewell mein lieber herr. It was a fine affair, but now it's over. And though I used to care, I need the open air. You're better off without me mein herr. Don't dab your eye, mein herr, or wonder why mein herr. I've always said that I was a rover. You mustn't knit your brow. You should have known by now, You'd every cause to doubt me meinherr. The continent of Europe is so wide, mein herr. Not only up and down, but side to side, mein herr. I couldn't ever cross it if I tried, mein herr. But I do what I can, inch by inch, step by step, mile by mile. Man by man. Bye bye mein herr. Bye bye mein lieber herr. Auf wiedersen, mein herr. Es war sehr gut, mein herr, und vor bei. Du kennst mich wohl, mein herr. Ach, lebe wohl, mein herr. Du sollst mich nie mehr sehen mein herr. Bye bye mein lieber herr. Farewell mein lieber herr.It was a fine affair, but now it'sover. And though I used to care, I need the open air. You're better off without me. You'll get on without me, mein herr.

She really is too talented to be Sally Bowles - Sally was second rate - Liza is arguably one of the best to have ever lived.
Makes me cry...❤
Probably one of the most unique, extraordinary performances in the history of Musicals. And it would be impossible to be played by someone other than Liza Minnelli! Her presence!
I just learned something today about this scene.... " "No one told me the Bible was not for young readers, so I found some exciting stories in it," William H. Armstrong said. "Not until years later did I understand why I liked the Bible stories so much. It was because everything that could possibly be omitted [left out] was omitted. There was no description of David so I could be like David..." Armstrong later used the art of omission in his own writing of Sounder which he wrote based on an account told around his family's kitchen table in Virginia. One story in particular, told by an elderly black man about Argus, the faithful dog of Odysseus, fascinated him; the dog recognized his master when he returned home after being away for twenty long years. This story stayed with him throughout his life and ultimately was the inspiration for his award-winning children's book, Sounder."
Love this scene and this film. These two were amazing. Leslie Browne and Baryshnikov should never had attempted to act, however.
Lo amaba el mejor x siempre♥️🥰
As someone who works as a news editor, I can tell you that this is pretty much what it’s like. This is all done digitally now, so the physical sprinting is lessoned, but the pressure of “We’re thirty seconds away from airing, is that footage going to make it!?” is as true as ever.
Yeah definitely puts Whitney Houston to shame!
This scene still gives me chills
so who was really in charge ? you dont want to know?

Amy Irving or Dyan Cannon- I PITY BUCK BONHAM! ❤
Hard to believe that Bette played homely Laura in the insipid BAD SISTER the year prior (it was her film debut)
"Well you just have to make up your mind, darlin', whether you're his daughter or my wife." Said differently, the family you create is more important than the family you come from. Her leaving Kentucky was a good thing in the end.

I was a huge computer nerd at this time and there was no way you could do this in the 80s on high school computers, and I'm not sure you could even do any high-res photos like this on any computers how any network. However, that is what made this scene extra cool for me when I saw it originally back then
I have a question… the marriage was fine and love, and this scene was the begining of bad feelings, besides the delay in reading pate contract ???
She shoulda won best actress for this. They gave it to Louise Fletcher for nurse ratched in cukoos nest. Great movie but not as good as this perfomance
I know that feeling
