    Здравствуйте! Очень интересно. А вот у одного парня ожереловый попугай улетел. Он так долго кормил попугая смесью когда он был ещё птенцом маленьким. На улице первый полёт и раз досвидания

    can you feed the insects and mice caught with live traps in backyards/ storage places to your pets?

    • @Myfriendthehornbill
      @Myfriendthehornbill 11 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Id say depending on your location, if you live on farm and 100% sure there is no possibility of your neighbors leaving poison for mice then I dont see why not as it is not unknown for hornbills and other birds catch and consume rodents in their enclosures

      Намного. К нам на участок прилетел ожерелик, хозяев так и нашли, остался жить с нами. Ожерелики ,когда взрослеют, становятся очень индивидуалистами, так вот этот зрелый самец - на контакт не идёт совсем, только за 4 месяца обучился говорить некоторые слова. I have a Curl Crested Aracari. I keep it uncaged in my home too. Your video was very relatable, the only difference is my CCA is so much easier when it comes to its diet. Just the recommended fruits and Mazuri pellets and that’s it.

      hi Antonio, thanks for your comment, where can I read more about your aracari? the hornbill diet had changed now and they are mostly on mazuri pellets which they eat well, blueberries, chopped chicks and insects. Perhaps I need to make a new video on my hbills diet

    Hello, I have watched your video before and here I am again. I actually have the opportunity to get an 8 month, handfed Hornbill and am so excited. I was wondering at what age were your Hornbills when you got them and do you think there is an optimum age at which to obtain and start bonding with these magnificent birds? 1 more thing,...Did you move? I am in the process now, OMG, what a hassle!!!

    • @Myfriendthehornbill
      @Myfriendthehornbill 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      hi Maria thanks for the question, first of all good luck on getting a bird. 8 months old might be just as fine as a younger bird. it will all depend on how much will you dedicate on training your hornbill. I have moved yes and the birds are currently placed in a smaller room, but hopefully in a year or so we will have a house on our own and the hornbills will have an outdoor enclosure. Good luck with your house moving!

    I think I finally found a bird I would keep. I love birds for their intelligent and that they once were dinosaurs but I always diskliked the amount of sounds since my ears are quit sensitive. Thanks. I definitely need to watch more videos about them.

    • @Myfriendthehornbill
      @Myfriendthehornbill 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      dear Heroann, I would also recommend to go and observe them in a zoo, the main thing about them is they can't be kept in cages they need a lot of space. Thanks for your comment, we are moving houses at the moment, Ill shoot a video on how they settled in a new place and try and post it this summer =P

    • @Heroann
      @Heroann 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@Myfriendthehornbill Dont worry, it wont be a problem that they need a full room. When I will get an animal like that I make sure that they have the space they need :). I would also see if I can let them roam in the house/apartment when I have one and maybe I would be able to go out with them in the summer. But it will take at least a year until I can get myself a animal like that, so its more than enough time to do more research on them. It will also be hard to get one in germany anyway, since it doesnt look like we have a breeder and the last thing I want is a wild cough one. Thanks for the information I will definitly keep an eye out.

    • @Myfriendthehornbill
      @Myfriendthehornbill 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@Heroann good approach I also took around 2 years before I got them. You have plenty of breeders of various tockus and L nasutus, check for facebook european hornbill breeders group, there are at least 5 breeders over there but in reality many more

    Great video. Since these birds are mostly insectivores, could you touch on how you keep a supply of insects to feed them? Do you breed the insects, or mainly buy them?

    • @Myfriendthehornbill
      @Myfriendthehornbill 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi Jeffrey sure I usually order insects because I dont have enough space to keep or breed them in big numbers (mostly due to odor and space required..). I order 1 kg of mealworms and approx 250gr of morio or crickets every 4-6 weeks. I think I can do with less if I keep my nerve with them and give them more of non-live food
