Good question. As a Sikh myself, here is what I think... Although the turban is not one of the 5 Ks; keeping kesh (un-cut hair), in the 15th century India, the logical choice at the time would have been to wrap it in a turban. There are also old- school spiritual reasons to keep long hair and keep one's head covered. Combine that with war times and Sikhs going into battle with turbans, they developed a deep bond. Hence, Sikhs have a special deep-seated bond with their turbans. For the record, I may be wrong. Or just partially true. But I am not of any authority speaking on the subject... Just a regular dude giving his 2 cents... ✌️

Around a thousand years ago Imam Muhammad Al Ghazali told story of a man walking in the jungle. A roaring lion ran towards him and the man ran as fast as he could to escape from it. He noticed a well in front of him and he jumped inside hoping to escape from the lion. As he was falling inside the well, he grabbed onto the rope and saved himself. The man was so relieved but when he looked down he saw a big snake at the bottom of the well. It had its jaws wide open ready to swallow him up. The man then looked up and saw two mice nibbling at the rope. A black mouse and a white were both chewing into the rope. The scary lion was still prowling outside the well. The man's heart was pounding as he wondered how he could escape from this. Then he noticed a honeycomb in front of him which had delicious honey dripping from it. He stuck his finger into the honey and put it inside his mouth. It was delicious and for a moment he forgot about the lion, the snake and the two mice chewing at the rope. Imam Ghazali explained that the lion is like the angel of death which is always looming above us. The snake was like his grave which all humans will face. The black mouse and white mouse were like the day and night which are always nibbling at our life (the rope). The honey was like this dunya (this temporal world) which with its momentary sweetness makes us forget the death and the eternal life.

Didn't quite understand the beauty of Sikhi till in my mid thirties when started to wear a turban and follow Guru Ji's path. Feel proud to be a Sikh and blessed to be born and raised in Punjab, the land of great Gurus, saints and sages, and living in this land of opportunity called the United States of America. Electrical Engineer by profession and have worked in industrial manufacturing, nuclear power generation, and railroad/transit industry doing electrical and rail system design, construction, maintenance and project management. Early Sikhs build American Railroads like the Chinese, worked in lumber yards, and farms. It is also a great pride to see younger generation of Sikh boys and girls go on to serve in almost all fields from science, education, nursing, security, police, space and other armed forces, politics, education, farming, non-profits, medical, engineering and law. Be blessed, thankful and stay in Chardi kala no matter the place and the time. Love you all!

    1. The three farm bills are already in place and working fine as of now and they are part of congress , bjp, ncf parties 2019 election manifesto. ex farmer minister of ncp and present congress chief minister of punjab also supported the same reforms in the past. Now all oppositon parties change their stand and making farmers scape goat. 2. post dialogue with farmers and govt ,On december 9th clarified with 10 point ammendment that all the doubts farmers posed and will be tabled in next session of parliament. But protesting farmers unions change stand after dec 9th and want full repeal. 3. In 2019 farmers can't sell their produced rice/wheat/vegetables etc out side of the district or county and cant sell to any one outside of the APMC market yards/mandis and farmer has to pay 8.5 percent fees( 3% to market yard improvement, 3% to district development , 2.5% to licensed commision agents). In some markets they collect both from seller and buyer each 8.5% . These new 2020 farm laws allows farmers to sell to any where in india to any one . no restriction. It is upto local government to charge needed cess or fees. 4. In 2019 only 10% of total agriculture produce (mainly wheat and rice)was bought by government agency FCI (Food Corporation of India as a stockpile for emergeny security) . 85% was purchased by private buyers . In 2019 only 15% of produce of total agriculture was purchased at minimum support price (MSP) and rest was purchased at lower price. Till 2010 the minimum support price was lower than the international price of the goods. After 2010 the minimum support price was increased higher than international price and no exporter is buying at msp except govt agency and all godowns of FCI agency are full with 4.5 trillion tonnes of wheat and rice . 5. who is at loss due to this farm bills of 2020 are A. punjab state governments who charge 3% cess for district developement will loose around 15000 millions (1500 crores) indian rupees per year income. B. the punjab licensed commision agents (who are mainly punjabi sikh jat caste landlords )who get 2.5% charge per transaction thro markets will loose 1000 crores (10000 million) rupees per year only in punjab state. c. Other than punjab and haryana no other state charge district fees and market cess and they charge only commision agent fees. Some states there are no markets/mandis like in kerala (since 1980) and bihar (since 2008). 6. The funding for protest is happening by charging 500 rupees per farmer . 80% farmers own only less than 2 hectres /5 acre land. 7. The foreign punjab seperatist/secissionist group sikh for justice announced 1 millon dollars as donation and indian banks stoped the distribution asking account holder to show FCRA ( Foreign control regulatory) registrants for permission 8. All want farm reforms. Punjab and Haryana farmers unions want to repeal and rest of indian country farmers are happy that they can sell anywhere. I think if central/union govt gives that 1500 crores to punjab govt per year and 1000 crore to punjab commision agents it will stop.

There is not many protests by the Farmers in USA and Canada , first of all the Farmers community or Agricultural are very less in comparison with India, where 60/70 percent people are farmers and they are marginal only 2-4 acre . I think there is Farmers Insurance available. One thing we have to recognize is that the middle man in India is a bad thing. This particular scenario may play in to the benefit of the farmer because now he has an option to sell his product at who ever is giving him a high price. More ever, companies can contract in advance with the farmer to buy the product. The current system may be good till this time, may be it needs a revisit. Farmers in India also get subsidizes. The 60/70 percent ratio of farmers in India is in-correct. You mean the countries GDP is run by 30% of the population. May be in one state , not in whole of India.

@@cowboys360 - Farmers get Subsidy for Electricity and fertilizer. In short A farmer in punjab gets an average Rs 173,165 in subsidy. Apart from that they get loans at subsidizd rates and also the loans don't have to be paid in case there is a weather related calamity. These are facts and are not made up numbers. The land of Punjab is not suitable for growing Rice but yet farmers have been ggrowing there for years and that has led to water issues. What the bill is saying grows other crops like vegetables. I don't know why farmer is worried. As long as there are people, they will have to eat and live. So what ever they produce that will get used. MSP cannot be guranetted for vegetables, for grains its different. There are other states which export fruits and vegetables and the farmer is able to sell his stuff before he has even sown a seed. The Contracts are already in place for the next year. I have laid out the facts. Hope this helps

The concept of langar which was designed to be upheld among all people, regardless of religion, caste, colour, creed, age, gender, or social status-was an innovative charity and symbol of equality introduced by the Hindu religion king Chandragupta Maurya in early 4th century (also called Bhandara in Hinduism) later on the founder of Sikhism, Guru Nanak around 1500 CE got influenced by this and start doing this practice in North Indian state of Punjab. The roots of such community kitchen institutions and volunteer-run charitable feeding is very old in Sikh traditions; the Chinese Buddhist pilgrim Ching (7th century CE) wrote about monasteries with such volunteer-run kitchens. A related concept emerged from the practices of, Faruddin Ganjshara Sufi saint living in the Punjab region during the 13th century, who would redistribute sweets his visitors would bring to his khalifas and common devotees. This concept developed, over time, into langar-khana near his shrine, a practice documented in Jawahir al-Faridi compiled in 1623 CE. "Satnam Shree Waheguruji".

Mera ek challenge aa har dharmik insaan nu ke oh apne dharmik granth vicho manu koi v esi cheez dasde jo manu pehla to he nehi pata. Oh cheez science de adhaar te sachi v honi chahidi hai. Je nehi das sakde ta manu ehna grantha di koi lod nehi hai. Its my challenge to everyone to point out anything substantial in your religious texts, which is scientifically true, that I as a modern Human Being do not know in my common sense. If you cannot do that then I do not need your religious texts.
