How to transfer a stingless bee colony into a hive box
Stingelss bees may nest in undesitable locations and need to be moved. This video shows you how to transfer them into a hive box. The example shows a transfer a stingless bee colony from a water meter box but the principles apply to most situations. Here, the hive was being kept on site.

มุมมอง 138K11 ปีที่แล้ว
Dr Tim Heard, Research Scientist, talks about the design of an Australian native beehive, suitable for many species, especially Tetragonula carbonaria and Tetragonula hockingsi. It is designed for propagation and honey extraction See dimensions of hive at www.sugarbag.net For further information, please contact Dr Heard at tim@sugarbag.net
Great job, my friend
Where can I get these boxes from please?
Can u show us how they make the middle pare and top part
Thank you Tim, your video is so clear and simple : )
Where can I purchase a well constructed native bee hive?
Hai sir
Awesome explainations! Thank you! Does the box design have to be a box rectangular wood, or could other shapes and materials be used?
Whats the dimension of the box?
Please help I have problem my native bee, there are a lot of bees are hanging on tree vines near the hive.
greetings, one hobby friend,, from Indonesia,, Kalimantan,,, this type of bee is very good,, the eggs are very beautiful, and honey is very useful for humans,,, good luck my friend🇮🇩👏
Very good Tim 🐝🐝🐝
What seal do you use?
Hey mate, where can i find the plans for your design please ?
Really good explanation , excuse me i would like to ask you ? In each section ..are you use any glue ? or not .. I am a beginner in bee world , i keep austroplebeia cincta and tetragonula cf mellipes in Merauke Southern Papua Indonesia
bro u didnt revive dem bees also do any die when u pierce the honey pot things
You killed many bees while extracting. I have a new method to extract.
Amazing video Thnks for share. Regards from Brasil
Hi Tim. Your videos are great. I always like to see. A question: in multiplications do you never look for real cells or virgin queens? Regards from Brasil.
Por favor miren videos de meliponicultura,de colombia, Brasil, argentina Perú Guatemala y aprendan el manejo de las abejas y como hacer colmenas meliponas
Such hive is just for a small family. Normal family is 50000-80000 bees and they need a volume around 100 L. An entrance - like a small hole will be a huge problems for coming in and out bees and it's not enough for ventilation of a inner volume of a hive.
Gostei muito
Gostei dei um jóia e escrevi no seu canal.
So nice your work Tim It's glad to see you here.

HDJALAJWJEKDJDMA where r u man? This video was so good and really helpful, but all I can focus on is the familiar sounds in the background, I'm from qld so I hear it a lot
thank you so much, great little vid. so clear and easy to understand, cheers!
Mantap.
Well explained sir . Thanks for your design .
How do we get this type of bee in another continent? Southern Cali.
How about the queen? Will there be a new one in the new colony? Thanks
hi dr. Tim thank you for your nice video.
IT'S very good
Sae pisann
Good teacher. . Thank u.
How do they defend themselves without stingers?
They crowd around other insects and can also bite. On my own hive I have seen them carry other dead bees outside the hive they are quite strong.
nice
I'm super excited about getting into native bee keeping. Thanks for the info Dr Tim.
Awesome work Tim!
No sting bees
Why is a grown man using up-talk....Anyhow, I can not imagine an "Australian Native" designing anything so cludgy and so clumsy looking.
I would like to see you do better.
Hi so his is basically a very small version of the langstrom hive without the frames , i look at some of the answers here and wonder were these peoples heads are at ,you left the brood and hive alone and extracted the honey maybe not in a conventional way but it did the job rather than cutting it all out and totally destroying it .Yes maybe there were a few bees in there but i doubt if any damage was really done to the main hive and what is a bees life cycle 10 weeks ? I am looking to put a native hive in my back yard along with my european bees native bees are fascinating little creatures actually saw one hovering round a plant at bunnings the other day ,i am sure the bees will fix the honey super up and all will be good for next years harvest .
I will not recommend placing an stingless bee hive near the european bees because native bees are less in number so they will in trouble to find food. Best regards
Ur method of collecting the honey is not really good since u r destroying the hive.. I hope u can find another method of collecting the honey by not destroying and harming the hive 😠
The hive is in the bottom 2 layers. He only accessed they honey super which the bees will reuse.
@@naturallyroyalsoaps that’s exact
Thank you again. Excellent education. Information with reason.
very well explained. thank you. It's good to know the why? behind the what.
The bees work so hard.... and then you kill them 😢
Kill what?
He didn't kill any. The bees are in the bottom 2 layers of the hive
No bees were kill.
Thanks Tim, wondering about the metal "roof" - did you shape that yourself - if so, any tips?
Looks like colorbond 'rolltop'ridgecapping which has been bent a little on each edge to grip the hive
Can anybody let me know the uses of stingless bee honey.
reportedly it is more nutritious and has better medicinal benefits than Manuka honey. Our honey has a citrus flavor to it, possibly because it sits right beside our ever productive lime tree😊
Stingless bee honey has long been considered a super-food with medicinal properties among which we can mention: low insulinemic index and low glycemic index, acariogenic, and highly active antioxidant
Why not use frames inside a hive and extract the honey? This seems a very wasteful method.
It’s pretty complicated but I think it has something to do with how bees naturally build also they wouldn’t be able to fill in normally frames they produce 50x less honey a year compared to European honey bees.
Thanks for the video. Do you have a list of materials required for the build?
Check my vids on stingless bee :)
