Ranking 2024 Books, So Far - Book Ranking
I really hope you enjoy the silver blood promise. And I’m looking forward to misery, I just hope this is the Steven King book that works for me.
Indiana Jones is cool. Zombies are cool. Impossible to screw this up.
I think I'll add Winter Tide to my list this month. Thanks for the tip
great review, dude. i finished WoA last night and this morning i have such a magical book hangover lol. can't wait to dig into hero of ages!
I know the feeling on DNF I’m about ready to put The Shadow of what we Lost.. I;m half way in and ready to DNF I got a video coming out tomorrow about it..
Thank you for reading!
And yes, this was my debut novel.
It's sometimes tricky to critique a work fairly when the work doesn't reach its full potential. I think you did an admirable job here in navigating that while staying honest and true to your opinion. Well done, good sir!
Interesting choice of book. Best wishes.
Came from Johnathan 's channel, but instant subscribe! My ratings are definitely closer to Caleb's, but I totally understand the logic and subjective aspects of them. My top 3 is easy but then it gets hazy lol. Need to reread the series .... 1. Traitor 2. Star By Star 3. Enemy Lines
You both had so many points that I agreed and disagreed with lol
Its a political thriller 🥶
Balance Point is one of the worst EU books ever.
I didn’t think it was terrible, but it’s probably in the lower tiers of what I’ve read so far
I wouldn’t go THAT far but it is very disappointing
Love your vids! Great book advice. Keep your channel going!
Just started the video but Jonathan giving a warning for his hot takes makes me bracing for where he ranked the Stover books. 😂😂😂 Edit: AAAANNNND I knew it! 😅😅 that’s ok. Different strokes for differdifferent folks.
You were warned!!!!! 😂 I knew my placement of Traitor alone would be the most controversial part of my list.
Quality autism is gonna be pissed lmao
Yay! Traitor is phenomenal, Enemy Lines is amazing. However, Star by Star will always be my number 1!
Thank you for having me on! I love talking about the New Jedi Order, and why Balance Point is so great! 😂
Oathbringer is next on my TBR! Can’t wait to start it!
Bro Revan is not that good lol
I’m pretty mixed on it. I do love the first half, but the second half is not that great imo
An awesome finale
I loved the oathbound series.
keep it up man!
I love this series, Yuuzhan Vong are amazing, Jacen Solo my favourite character, but I will never forgive how they treated Chewie. It absolutely broke my heart. That's why I personally prefer Legacy of the Force, I don't know if you read it or will you read it but I love how Jacen Solo was written there, Sacrifice and Inferno I think one of the best star wars I've read, loved also how it fitted into George Lucas' philosophy of rhyming stories like poetry but at the same time keeping it original. The book invincible was a little disappoiting to me but the amount of emotions and joy that series gave me was sufficient and I'm able to forgive. But for Chewie I will never forgive, it was so so disrespectful to that character and the next following 5 books I read with real disgust and even though I love NJO and Traitor and Star By Star and Destiny's Way and the whole Force Heretic and Edge of Victory, I think they made the single worst decision they could possibly make in the whole star wars universe in that Vector Prime book.
I read/listened to the NJO over the past 2 years. It was worth all the time and effort I put in. The payoff was there.
Thank you caleb.✌️
Great review keep up the great work!
there is a fantastic audiobook on youtube of hard contact
I saw you on Talking Story, and your video was fun. They are doing some things very well with their channel, and their community is just as amazing as them. Maybe you might read a book of mine, one day. I would never ask someone to read a book they wouldn't like.
Warbreaker has my heart! One of my all time favourite Cosmere book and in general fave books😊and The Stormlight archive is on par with Warbreaker! I’ve been contemplating whether to read Yumi and the nightmare painter and Sunlit man as Tress and the emerald sea was one of my least enjoyed books
I haven’t read Sunlit Man but I’d say Yumi is well worth reading. It’s similar to Tress in the sense that it’s also narrated by Hoid (although his voice isn’t as overt) and it has some romance in it, but it feels much more like traditional Sanderson to me. I’d actually most liken it to Warbreaker out of all his books, so you may enjoy it
@@caleblikesbooks thank you! I’ll give it a go
Love the Dreamlands. Thanks fella
My personal list from what I’ve read: 1. Lost Stars 2. Lords of the Sith 3. Thrawn 4. Dark Disciple 5. Bloodline 6. Tarkin 7. Catalyst 8. Shadow of the Sith 9. Light of the Jedi 10. Twilight Company
Looks like you're going to have an interesting month. I dig the cover for Falling into Oblivion. Will look out for your take on Litany of Earth as well, I've come across Emrys' books multiple times but I don't know anyone that's actually read them - you'll be the first! Hopefully the novella works out great and sets you up for October.
I’ve heard great things about Emrys’s duology. I’m excited to read the novella and then the novels
Nice ranking. If i had to recommend 3 canon books not on this list, I'd go for: Inferno squad (my personal favourite canon book) Brotherhood (which id say is the best prequel era book) Rebel rising (I'd say is up there with lost stars for the ya novels)
Loving your videos and hearing your thoughts! Your delivery feels very kind hearted and friendly, keep it up!
I really like the Steve Zahn books.
I would add to look for stories about your favorite characters. You like Mace Windu? Try Shatterpoint. Boba Fett? Try The Bounty Hunter Wars trilogy. Qui-Gonn? Honestly, the Jedi Apprentice series, though for younger readers, is actually pretty good overall. The best thing you can do is find a good group of Expanded Universe fans and get their opinions. We're generally a pretty nice group!
That’s a great piece of advice! Somehow it completely slipped my mind since that’s pretty much what I did-I loved the video game The Force Unleashed and the character of Starkiller, so the novelization was the first EU book I read
@caleblikesbooks thanks. The Jedi Apprentice novels were my jumping on point after seeing Ep 1. I'll freely admit not every story is a winner. But there's more good than bad, imo. Id also add that if you want more amazing EU content, Dark Horse's comics are it. Legacy, Clone Wars, Rebellion, Empire, The Knights of the Old Republic, and The Dark Times are all really, really good. The older material is good, but these are when they really hit their stride.
I’d looove to dive into the comics eventually. The main barriers right now are the prices for the big collections, and just being more of a prose novels reader than a comics reader. The medium doesn’t work as well for some reason, but I would love to give more of it a try. I’ve read a couple of the comics and enjoyed them a bit
Missing a lot of EU you haven’t touched the sides. I would argue your choices were awful.
I’ve only read 40-50% so far, so there is certainly some I’m missing. I think these are all good choices for people who want to dive into the books, though What would you recommend instead?
Surprise September sounds fun to do. Will be interested to see where it leads!
good video bro
I was in such a star wars slump for the past few years, just been slowly becoming more disappointed with things until just these past couple weeks, been watching the movies again and just read the Thrawn Trilogy for the umpteenth time and I'm loving Star Wars again
Darth Plagueis is my favorite Star Wars book. I would say even if you only like Revenge of the Sith out of the prequel movies you will likely really enjoy Darth Plagueis because as was stated it is Palpatine’s back story. The end of the book overlaps the the events of the Phantom Menace and actually captures some of those events in a brief, fresh way that you may appreciate if you don’t like watching Episode One. I won’t spoil anything here, but the ending is very mind blowing and satisfying.
Darth Plagueis is easily the best Star Wars novel in my opinion, The Last Command is pretty decent as well.
Go chronologically, starting with Dawn of the Jedi. I've been gradually working my way through Legends over the last year or so, while also building up my own historical head-canon. I'm currently playing the Old Republic game and reading Fatal Alliance. The Old Republic period is easily my favourite era in all of Star Wars, as it has so much lore and history to immerse yourself in!
I love that era too. The Knights of the Old Republic games are my favorite Star Wars things ever
I'd say that if someone want to start reading SWEU, the X-Wing Squadron books are a great introduction to it's universe with ton of action and lot of known characters that shows up here and there in books. I've read them 30 years ago and I remember being sucked in the universe by them :)
I need to catch up on those, that series is one of my biggest blind spots in the EU. I read the first book a couple years and while I enjoyed it, it didn’t quite draw me in the way I’d hoped. I need to get my hands on the other books sometime
Start with the oldest, work your way forward. Simple. Just absolutely slam on the brakes before you get to 2012.
🔥🔥🔥
You are too invested in the prequels. The good parts of the EU precede or stay as far away from the prequels as possible. The rule of 2 sucks
I was basing this list mostly on ones I’d recommend for those who’ve only seen the films, maybe the shows. The prequels are a pretty significant portion of that, though I will concede that the Imperial era and New Republic era are ones I haven’t dove into as much in the EU. Most of the books I’ve read in those eras are not ones I’d recommend for starters, however Right now I’ve read 40-50% of the EU, so once I’ve read more I’ll probably update this list with a wider variety
love the distant shirt 🤘
Great list man, those are all some of the best of the new canon. I'm right there with you on Claudia Gray, Lost Stars proves that SW can tell a different type of story in an utterly spellbinding and unforgettable way!
I’ve read the Thrawn and Darth Bane trilogies. Both reignited my love for Star Wars.
