Sailing BC Gulf Islands - SV Uluwatu

Cruising the Gulf Islands from Vancouver with Marco, Todd and Dave from the OG Westbeach crew and met up with Scott's and Phil's sailboats in Telegraph Harbour. Next stop up to Newcastle Marine Park and then back down to Wallace Island before heading back across the straight. Solid first boys trip with SV Uluwatu.
These make me so happy and sad at the same time, happy that I get to see y’all, but sad that we’re so far away. I laughed out loud at Adells shower dance. Can’t wait to see the next episode. I remember sailing to Desolation sound in the summers with the Haley family.
Floating time bomb, prayers.
lol. Floating time bomb? What are u referring to, the LifeP04 batteries?
Boat is looking great guys!!! Hope Bella liked the improvement to the stairs 🐾🐕🦺⛵️
Thanks so much!! Bella loves being on the boat and it was so great that she was able to conquer those stairs!
Thanks, yes so much better now (real time) that her legs are stronger, in upcoming episodes, she hurt her knee and needs a harness still to get up and down.
This is so inspiring! Were refitting our 65 power catamaran too, and its so exciting to see others doing such big projects. It feels great to be part of this community!
Thanks 😊 we are having so much fun learning boat stuff and meeting new people. Hope to see you out on the water.
@afriesen72 Always Welcome! We will see you "out there'!
Thanks! It's so rewarding to see the results of all the work we put in and it's a great feeling knowing others are out there doing the same.
@@Sailingbc For Sure! Thank you so much for following our journey! ❤️🔥❤️
Awesome tour and great upgrades! Congratulations
Thanks Alex, if you are headed to the boat show, let us know.
Where did you buy the foam panel for the stairs?
We got it on amazon in canada, I don't see our color option atm but maybe is another listing. this is the brand we got. www.amazon.ca/Decking-Marine-Carpet-Adhesive-Non-Slippery/dp/B07R6PMQSH We are behind on videos but good news is I can report it has held up amazing after a couple years, its like new still. just make sure you really clean the surface well and use alcohol.
Battle born suck way over priced, lifpo out today get 480 ah price of one 100 battleborn, happy sailing
I think Battleborn batteries are really good, have had zero issues but for sure there are cheaper ones out there today. We are a little behind on editing. I had looked at some other options but after dropping all our savings on the boat, wanted to have the security of a proven safe product. It was my first time dealing with batteries and DC power systems so wanted to stay with proven products and company support if needed. I also had some requirements by our insurance company and felt the risk of a cheaper, lesser known product may put us at risk if fire or something did occur. I am really happy with them and get a good nights sleep. Next time around would definitely look at other options. My neighbour just put in 480's like you mentioned and he loves them.
Lovely to meet you at the boat show
@@Cyranth thanks Scott! Yes it was great chatting with you and your wife! So glad you stopped by and we’ll definitely see you guys out there this summer 🍻
Nice to meet you Scott. Made our day!
Love the upgrade for Bella! See you at the Boat Show!
Are you coming to the Vancouver one? We can't make Seattle this year. :(
It is a lovely boat! enjoyed the tour! Even though I have been on the boat few times I learned lots I did not know. So organized!
Thanks mom, lol.
Great to see another episode from you guys! Good editing of all the different footage. Have fun at the show this week!
Thanks guys, almost caught up... not. haha.
Thanks guys! Wish we were in Mexico!! Have a great trip!!
Thanks for the tour! Looks like a great setup for your adventures. Looking forward to the next video⛵
Thanks Rick!! 😊
Thanks bro, will enter your name in the draw to win a day sailing with us ;P
Living the life! Great video guys well done❤
Thanks Alex. We are trying., work in progress :P
Great video and boat tour, Adele in the shower should help drive up the views 😜
Haha, i told her to get that bulky sweater off. Thanks for watching bro!
🤣🤣🤣
Great footage ! Makes us miss the PNW
Want to trade? haha... I need some heat.
@ hahaha I miss it but not that much just yet 😂
Nice work! Hard to beat BC cruising :)
Thanks guys! It really blows my mind when I go back and look at the drone footage how beautiful it really is.
East coaster here only dreaming of an adventure like yours, beautiful footage….
Thank you, it's a special place you should try and make it to one day. Glad you were able to enjoy it from our video.
I live in the southeast of the US, but years ago, my brother and I rented a 36-foot trawler out of Juneau for a week. It was an unbelievable trip that I will never forget. You live in a country with stunning landscapes. Adelle that is the most beautiful tattoo I have ever seen. How long did it take to have that completed? Good sailing, and I'll see you both on your next sail.
Thanks Lee! It’s so nice to hear similar stories of how being on the water is such a life changing experience. My tattoo took ten 4 hour sessions and was inspired by the ocean as well. It is the girl coming out of her shell. Hope to see you out on the deep blue one day. Thanks again for taking the time to say hi 🍻
Thanks Lee, our dream is to head south to warmer climates but I think when we do, are really going to miss what is in our backyard!
@@Sailingbc I went up there in July. In winter, I have been in Grand Forks, North Dakota, at 60 below zero. I know why you want to head south. Just change your clothes, change your fishing gear, and go have fun. I look forward to seeing you in Mexico. You have the boat to do it.
We have our plan in place... just a matter of time. See ya there!
@@afriesen72 I saw the shell in the tattoo. That tattoo is epic, and I thought it was several sessions, but not 40 hours! And you are welcome to me reaching out. I love reaching out to people who take many hours to create videos of their experiences to share. Fair winds and be safe.
Awesome to see the highlight reel! Some really beautiful footage-looking forward to the episodes to come! 👍🏻👍🏻
Thanks guys! We’re ready for part two of your latest episode!! Sure wish we could join you in the sea of Cortez 😊
Next episode will be out soon, or like my todo list says, tomorrow. 🤣
Our waters are so beautiful! Thanks for sharing your adventures!
Thanks for taking a moment out of your day to watch and comment. It never ceases to amaze us.
RCMP?
Royal Canadian Mounted Police
With our AIS still showing an American registered boat, the Canadian Authorities have been stopping us. Had to ship it back to Simrad to get reprogrammed.
How long did it take you to learn all the sailing terminology or are you still learning?
I’m definitely still learning but Chris has got it dialed.
It takes a while, not always intuitive. I mean come on, who calls a rope that trims a sail, a "sheet" lol
Brrr…I got boogies just watching!
Haha - yes! Glad I’m not the only one 😂 thanks for watching Brandon.
So nice to see the home waters!!
We will trade you for Fiji waters anytime :P
Another great episode! Or As I like to call them 15 minutes with old friends. Keep them coming
Thanks Rob!! 😊
Thanks bro, if we don't get you up on the boat here, we will make it up the east coast one day.
@@Sailingbc coming to BC is on my next years bucket list. Christmas in Germany won out this year
Great stuff! I'm really looking forward to watching your adventures. Also, I'm curious about the approach to Vancouver Harbour and staying out of the way of those container ships. Perhaps a topic for a future episode?
There are designated shipping lanes that they need to stay in that are marked on Navionics. However, if they are going to pull in and anchor, they will slow down to 3-5kts. Channel 11 is harbour traffic and if they don’t hail you on that and you are in their path, they will on 16. Outside the harbour they come in hot at over 15kts and will bear down on you quick. Tugs pulling log booms, ferries, cruise ships, containers, always lots going on. All the commercial traffic is on AIS if u have that too. Good idea for an episode, thanks for watching.
I found if you get pricked by a rockfish take an aspirin - it helps bigtime.
Thanks Paul, going to get stocked up on aspirin. I have caught many since we filmed this but put on thick rubber gloves and am way more careful. Love Rockfish tacos.
Nice boat! Thanks for sharing.
She's a beauty, and she's got us to some amazing places! Thanks for watching.
So glad to see a new episode from you guys! Looking forward to the next one about the solar and batteries. Didn’t know Chris did that himself before we did ours.
Hey Jim, I will go over it in the next episode but did get some help from @pacificyachtsystems to make sure I didn’t fry everything.
Fantastic, thanks for sharing.
Thanks for watching. We are finally finding some time to edit the last few years of footage. Hoping to make some good progress in the next bit 🍻
Thanks Andre.
th-cam.com/video/RPFzP0mKNbQ/w-d-xo.htmlsi=-MIBXcJxmPXAaFeE
Thank you... yes that was a little cringe watching that. We are quite a bit behind on editing and come a long way since our first year on the boat. I have since bought that claw style hook that can feed through the roller without getting caught up. so much better. love that bridle though. cheers
Trick for cold water wet suit . Dump a few cups of warm water inside your neck front and back. It will give you 10 + minutes of warm diving
That’s a great hack! Thanks!
Way better than peeing. 🤣
Love the channel guys!! So enjoyed meeting you both and spending time with you on the 42 on Sunday! Hope we see you again soon. D&S.
Thanks guys! We really enjoyed spending the afternoon with you and hopefully we’ll see you on the deep blue in your new cat!!! What would Sylvia do? She’d buy that cat!!!
It's hard to imagine all the 'first lessons' that have to be learned through experience. Thank you for sharing your journey ❤
Thanks so much for your comment. There have been many “firsts” but you tube has been an endless supply of info and support. We can’t thank the community enough for charging ahead and keeping us motivated. 🫶🏻
Nice video!
the stern line should go ashore around a tree and back to the boat then you can release it with out going ashore G
Hey Garth, I am kicking myself for not buying a longer stern line. Have found it really tough to get ours to do that unless we are in a tight deep anchorage. I have also learned if I do go around a tree to use sticks or driftwood between the tree and the line so that you don't damage the bark and risk killing the tree if it rubs hard. thanks for your message, always looking to learn.
cribbage is not for just old people im 83 have played crib for over 60 years geeeeez boated the PNW for over 70years G
lol. maybe should have said of another era, I do love pre-technology games.
I think you will look back at these videos and be happy you documented the adventure...that being said...I'll stick with a backpack and snorkel 😅. Even a surfboard is too much work to travel with anymore for me.
Thanks 😊 we’re having fun and learning lots 👍
Glad you got the drone back, and rescued your sailing underway clips! Too risky for me. Keep up the fun vids-looking forward to the next one!
Hey Jim, i am going to make a handle and see how that goes. If it works will make you one.
@@Sailingbc thanks, that would be great! So hope it works!
I lived on “G” Dock at Sidney Marina, thanks for the memories. I sailed away in 2015 never to return, not because I didn’t love it there as I did love it but sailing around the world seemed move adventurous. Currently in Thailand. Cheers I produced a TH-cam Channel back in the day Off the Starboard Hull
Right on! Such a great marina. Will check out your channel. Safe travels!
Thank Scott. The plan is to follow suit. A few more years to restructure life and qualify for early pension and we are out of here. We may start out on our boat but hope to upgrade to a cat. How do you find the Lagoon 400 after a number of years on it?
Christophe and Cameo here(Black boat at 9:46) it was good meeting you at the pub that day. You’re really doing the miles. Good on you….
Yes! So great to meet you guys! and I hope we see each other out on the water this summer! Your boat was the midnight / moonlight gambler? Such a nice boat!! 🍻
Hi, we are a little behind on editing 🤦🏼 but will catch up one day... Lots of trips planned yet this spring then off to the west coast of the island again this summer. Where are you cruising these days?
Love your channel so far, look forward to your future adventures.
Thanks Tom, we are a little behind on editing but have a whole bunch lined up. Thanks for watching.
Hint. Keep a real close eye on your keel bolts as they tend to work lose. Also, next time you haul out, use the Copper coat process. Yes, spendy up front, yet you will not have to do it again for at least 5-10 years. Just dive the boat and keep the green off. 😊😊
We are a little behind on editing but have done a haul out and bottom paint job. I used Pettit Odyssey Triton which am hoping to get 3-4 years. I watched @wesail recently do an episode on coppercoat and while a lot of work and expense, looks like a good option, especially while remote and less access to haul outs.
When trying to catch your drone at sea, switch your controller to sport mode just before trying to catch it. That will over-ride virtually all your safety sensors and you can catch it by hand. Obviously, do that from underneath. Once you have it, simple flip it upside down and the props will stop.
Thanks. Did that for a bit and was still having issues where it would move while grabbing so now put black electrical tape over the sensors for full atti mode. Eventually going to make an actual handle I can grab. I am a bleeder but that’s another episode . lol.
Great video!! Looking forward to seeing you guys in a few months😎⛵️
Thanks Kiki… summer can’t come soon enough.
I’m consistently blown away by how beautiful it is there! Those crabs were huge I bet they were delicious!
It is so beautiful up here, wait until we get to the West Coast of Vancouver island episodes. That blew our minds, just amazing. Oh and the crabs were sooooo good. Thanks for watching.
Thanks for the video. There are so many anchorages still to explore. Montague would be great early in the year when it should be relatively easy to get a mooring ball or dock space compared to the height of summer when it is more busy. I believe running the diesel at low rpm for long periods can lead to carbon build up. They tend to like to be worked.
Thanks, we have checkmarked a pile of anchorages to hit up, can't wait. Good call on the diesel RPM, noted.
Old truck driver here.. Diesels like to work . Get em good and hot and as long as you aren't lugging them,(no black smoke) they will be happy. @@Sailingbc
Yes i have found 2200rpm is a sweetspot on speed and fuel economy. 2800rpm is my Yanmar max cruising according to manual. The engine only had 50 hours on it when we bought it and was 9 years old. Not even broken in yet...
How did we get "salty" but Adel looks the same as 30 years ago? Love the videos makes me not feel 3000 miles away.
Haha! I sold my soul to Ursula the sea witch!!! Thanks Rob!
Movie magic brother... Its like looking at Rob Lowe in the mirror when I wake up then takes me hours to get this salty authentic sailor aesthetic.
Cribbage is definitely an old people thing😂😂😂 JK it’s a great game! You guys are killing it! The drone footage is sweet too.
I know this boat, she is a beauty but the 2 amazing humans sailing it are phenomenal and we can’t wait to spend some time with all 3 of you soon🥰
