Fixed cluster malfunction problems dodge grand caravan.
A little off topic but should a 2005 Grand Caravan have a dash 🚦 indicator if park Brake is engaged?
Yes it should be illuminated when the parking brake is engaged.
Excellent video , I am having this issue !
I have a ram 1500 and my emergency brake light flashes while in gear my brake is off is this the same part for. A ram
I'm not positive if it is the same part sorry?
@@chrisl515 dont be sir you d9dnhelp me out alot and I thank you
Thanks. You're too late to save me the cost of the tipm but you might have just fixed my issues
Mine doesn't come back on it was fine yesterday and last night but I just went to go some and I started the car from inside I have a 2019 got it in 2021. The windo wipers was on I tried to cut them off and nothing the gauges don't work there's a little window that tells me how fast I'm going shows me my lights and everything it's not working the actual lights in the car are not cutting on so I reached up to turn them on by hand and they're still not cutting on the only thing in the car that working is the radio and the car starts and I can drive but I can't drive without my turn signals which don't work idk what is wrong I'm calling my insurance tomorrow to talk to them
Root cause is water not draining in the wiper cowl pull drain hoses in the engine bay connected to the wiper motor cowl against the fire wall. Water is puddling and washes in on the passanger side. Also wiper motor is getting drowned in the water short circuiting power seats and power mirrors and draining car battery. Hope this helps.
I have the same thing with my 2008 Dodge Grand caravan. It was tested today and tested bad. Tomorrow, I will get a new switch and swap them out. That darn brake light comes on after 15 seconds on mine and drives me crazy. I can fix that and come back from nutty island!
How did he get the old sensor out?
read the comments and you will find out. ;-)
This did not help me, my dash goes off then on every few seconds, it just vanished and in a few seconds it comes back on as if it was unplugged then plugged in.
Take dash apart and resolder all the pins on the opposite side of were u plug in the adapter to the circuit board
Thanks for the video!!
I took it in and there was a leak. 3 months later and now it is back on. Smh
Is there another leak? Is master cylinder fluid low?
The master cylinder is white transparent. U should be able to see through it as well from the side. I rock my vehicle a little and can see the fluid movement.
@@chrisl515 I have to take it in Monday. I have a feeling there is another leak because the light comes on and I have to fill it back to the line each time. Smh
@@chrisl515 and I have a 2008 Dodge Caravan SXT. This can constantly has problems with the brakes. Had them replaces in October and the pads. Now I hear the brakes every time I press them. Smh
@@TheLifeofJenelle could be a couple different things. I would take it to someone you trust that can inspect the brakes. I started my own shop and this should be pretty affordable for an inspection. Noise is not always dangerous as long as the vehicle has no stopping issues. Could be something simple like the pad hardware which would me normal if not installed right. I have had broken rotors though as well come in. That you would want to fix immediately. Brake level is serious though. Make sure that the fluid is at the right height. If not get some DOT 3 or 4 rated fluid and fill it to the correct level.
How do you remove the sensor? Do I have to take the reservoir off?
No need to remove reservoir. There is a small clip on the underside. I used a small mirror so I could see underneath and then used a pointed object to depress the clip. It removes very easy. Be gentle and just depress the clip lock.
It fixed my problem hopefully it works for you!
How did u check for continuity with the vehicle on? Wasn't the sensor plugged in? I'm missing something here. In order to check the sensor,u have to access the 2 pins which has to be unplugged from the power plug. Anyway,I have the exact same problem but the new switch didn't work.
You are correct. You have test for continuity with vehicle off. The two most common issues are the brake fluid sensor or the emergency brake under dash. Does the cluster of lights including the brake light come on and then go out with the brake light coming back on after 10 seconds?
Obviously if the fluid level is low it would do the same thing with a good sensor. I'm sure u checked it. I'll do some more research. In the meantime how do the wires look at the sensor?
The parking brake could also be partially applied.
@@chrisl515 Right. When I turn it on,the brake light comes on after 10 seconds. This van has been doing this for the last year..I replaced brake pedal switch and also checked the e-brake then just finally gave up as the brakes work perfectly and I can still get it inspected. When I saw your video today,I went right to the mopar dealer and put the part in right there, turned it on and crossed my fingers but 10 secs it popped on. Darn my luck today! And the reservoir is full.
@@umpy3152 it's going to drive me nuts now. Sorry that part didn't work. I'll keep thinking about it. If u fix it please let me know. Out of curiosity are u able to actuate the e-brake pedal on and off during that 10 seconds before the light comes on? If the light goes on and off it would lead me back to the master cylinder. I would think the magnet in the master cylinder is stuck down near the bottom causing the new installed sensor to close creating a voltage path. It is a reed switch. Pull the new sensor from under the master cylinder but leave it plugged in and away from the bottom of the master cylinder. If u haven't already tried. If it works then something is stuck. I would try tapping the master cylinder lightly. It may sound crazy but sometimes new parts can also be bad from the factory.
Thanks good video
2008 Dodge Grand Caravan 3.8 liter.
Correct part number and brand for brake fluid level sensor. Duralast SU15046, approximately 40 dollars.
Thanks for making this video. It didnt help with my main issue but it did help with the automatic sliding door inop. Found a broken wire in that track.
Cost 10 dollars to fix. Instead of 90 dollars for the original plastic part and hoses. The type of hose u need is 5/8ths heater hose. It's a 1.60 a foot. The symptoms are obviously a leak or spurt from the broken part or in addition to that the smell of burnt coolant in your heater vents because it drips on exhaust.. Hope this helps.
Ok so I am not a mechanic and I need steps hahaha all this Jargon is confusing
If your having problems like I described . It could very easily be in the driver side door jam inside the rubber boot. There is a video on how to take that apart and asses if the wires are damaged in there. For my van the damage was the plugs at the bottom of both the sliding doors. One plug was so corroded it would not come apart . Hopefully yours will come apart. I had to cut the plug out. If you can get the plugs apart on both doors. there is a little gray looking plastic lock on each plug. All you do is slide it out. And then pinch the plug with your thumb and pull the plug apart. Some times it can be a little demanding to pull apart. ONce you get it apart look inside of both ends. if the metal terminals are blue looking. That is a type oxidation/corrosion. you need to try and clean them. I used alcohol for my van. You can get a special electrical cleaner however rubbing alcohol worked for me. It dry's very fast and i only use enough to dampen a Q tip . And then i swab the terminals . You will see the blue stuff start to come off on the q tip. If they are badly corroded and by chance you can not pull them apart. You may have to replace the plug ends. IN my case only one plug was damaged and broken to the point it had to be cut out. Let me know if cleaning them corrects the problem. I hope it works for you . You can also use dielectric grease to put inside the plug when you are done . It helps electrical connectivity in electrical connections like this on vehicles.
Don't give up you can do it. It may just take a little time. Make sure before you take anything apart. Disconnect negative battery cable. : ) it is the black cable.
Disconnect negative battery cable before taking any of the electrical plugs apart and cleaning them. You can do it . Don't give up!
chris L you are so amazing so I am positive my issue is the sliding door. The wires have been falling out for over a year now they hhhhave been caught in the door and sliced. I'm assuming this is causing the major electrical issue in the dash and with the wipers. We live in Belgium so finding a mechanic for a dodge has been impossible and finding a mechanic that speaks English is even more hard. I am going to take a look at it today and find out how bad the wires are all frayed
No problem! I give all the credit to god . Because he knows that when I am working on stuff I am always praying for him to help me figure it out : ) I am so glad it worked out for you. You can use butt/crimp connectors if you don't know how to solder. It's not hard to solder . They have some how to videos on how to solder. Of course soldering is in theory the best fix for broken wires however, I have used both and it depends. If it is in a hard to reach or accessible place i might do butt connectors. I used butt/crimp connectors for my van because it was a little bit cramped in that area. I think for this situation either would be fine. After crimping the connectors on the bare wires . Pull on them a little to ensure they have been successfully crimped inside the connector. I would rap it generously with black electrical tape. I would do this to prevent moisture from getting in the connection. Again , I hope everything works out.
If the plugs are bad and cannot be cleaned or have to be replaced. You can get new plug end replacements for them. Mine were damaged on the passenger side when it came apart. One of the prongs broke off or seized in the other end of the plug. Like I said in the video I had to cut the damaged plug ends out. There are 7 wires in this plug arrangement. I typically either replace plug ends however in this case due to moisture in the original plug. I figured I would just either solder them or butt connect them. In this case I chose to butt connect them and then neatly seal them with electrical tap around each individual wire and then around all the wires. a Heat shrink over top of butt connectors is a good idea. ****The wire colors are very close on both sides of the plug for 2008 dodge van . Just make sure you connect the right color wires. there were a couple where the tracer color line on the wire was close to the color of another. *****
Thanks Chris. My van's instrument lights would not turn on and the van would start then die 2 seconds later and then it wouldn't even turn over. My sliding door started acting up the other day. I messed with it and now the van is running thanks to your video.
