Managed to get my first in person encounter with the legendary J-Class steam engine: Norfolk and Western's #611! Along with some other Norfolk Southern action! Enjoy! I apologize for the shaky moments in the video. I forgot my tripod at home as I was rushing out, which also messed up the focus at some points. Next time, I'm treating my tripod with as much importance as my camera lol.

As I lived in Wheaton from 91 to 96 and checked out trains at Kensington and Garret Park and Point of Rocks and other places. I'm also from Frederick MD where i live now and i live 3.4 miles and 12 minutes from the Marc Train Station In Downtown Frederick MD! I can hear the sounds of the MARC MP36-PH Diesel Locomotive in the Mornings and evenings on weekdays and the sounds of the MARC Single and Multi level Cab Cars when it leads the entire Bruinswick Line train from the Train Station to the MARC train storage yard in Frederick MD!

I rode this line shortly after it first opened. I'm a DC native retired to southwest Virginia. I go back every now and then. When I do, I get a room 50-60 miles out and take commuter rail in. Generally Brunswick or Fredericksburg VA, but I did Frederick the one time to ride the new line. I got a room at a motel a few miles north on 15. The station is beautiful. Plenty of Amtrak stops don't have stations half that size.

Hey nice video. It was weird seeing 89 with a 4 car Half-Hourly instead of a 6 or 7 car train. My personal favorite engine on the railroad is 475 but they weren’t running her on the 4th this year. 90 and 89 did good this year!
Thanks a lot! Yeah the 475 might be getting her boiler washed this month. I caught a glimpse of it when the train passed the shop. I love all three engines (90 is my personal favorite), but since 2019, every time I’ve been to Strasburg up until summer 2021, they were only running the 475. So it was nice seeing the 90 & 89 again after quite a few years. As to why the half-hour train only had four cars, you’re question is as good as mine lol. They do great every year!
@@MikeManning1 yea, 90’s my personal favorite too. I got to ride the open air for the first time (like you did) and stood out on the “balcony”. I loved it. Never knew you could do that till last month. But I’m happy they were running 89 too. When we went, we went the last two weeks of July (we live an hour away and have been going since I was born) but they were only running 90. Which I didn’t mind, but love when they run 2 locos.

You will absolutely love it! I have been going there every year since I was 7 and I’m still not sick of it! I’m 22 now lol. You’ll most likely see the #90 in operation. Probably the the 90 and 89 if you stay until Saturday.

Congratulations to your cousin on getting married! I love the sound of the grinded rails as the Amtrak trains arrive and depart from the station. I also really love the engine sound from the MP36PH-3C locomotives. The SC-44 charger locomotives sound just as great. Great video!

Yeah the Marc only runs in peak hours unfortunately. But the metro runs all day!
I live close by the station. USA rail transportation is still old school but love diesel power.
This LINE is old-school because it's used mostly by freight rail (no caternaries for electrification); the primary user is CSX (coal and grain from West Virginia and points west) - not MARC or AMTRAK.
