Maha Mantra at Naraynhiti Nepal by Parvati
Maha Mantra at Naraynhiti Nepal by Parvati is the traditional Krishna kirtan performed by the ecstaic kirtan group Parvati at Narayanhiti in Kathmandhu, Nepal. Parvati is Anton Mizerak on vocals and tabla, Alyssa Narum on vocals and harmonium and Laura Berryhill on vocals and manjira. Narayanhiti is a sacred area in the old Nepali King’s Palace where there is a temple to Narayan (Vishnu) and a hiti - a sacred group of water spouts. Parvati performed as part of an Arati (awakening of the God) on the eleventh day of the waxing moon in March 2024: Shukla pakshi ekadashi.
This version the Maha Mantra was co-written by Anton Mizerak, Laura Berryhill and Alyssa Narum. The melodic content is developed in Rag Yaman. The tabla tal alternates from rupak to kaharwa, finally ending in a fast (drut) tintal.
For non- classical Indian music readers this means that the melodic lines are written in Lydian mode and the rhythmic pattern begins with a seven beat cycle and alternates with an eight beat cycle, finally ending in a fast sixteen beat cycle.
This video starts with the opening ceremony of the arati to Narayan followed by our kirtan, which then ended with the actual arati with the fire hoop held by the priest.
I have been attending ekadashi music sessions at Narayanhiti for forty years. This was my first opportunity to actually perform there.

Such devotion and divine melody
Thank you. We have tried to create kirtans that utalize a more complete range of north Indian Hindustani music tools while also encouraging the bhakti experience of ecstasy.

Thanks for making this available, Anton and Laura!
VERY VERY BEAUTIFUL!!!!
Anton, how are you! I'm glad I finally got in touch with him for the first time in about 20 years. I am a Buddhist from Kagoshima who was invited to Shasta's studio around June 2001. I think you were interested in wearing an Angkor Wat T-shirt the day you met. Did you meet for a short time, do you remember? There was a Japanese who posted information about Mt. Shasta on Facebook, but I asked Mt. Shasta Anthology CD to find out about your Facebook. Do you know the musician of this Mount Shasta Isology CD? If I ask you, it's my music! There was also such an episode. My buddy master, with a special spiritual power, taught me on the way home from listening to your music in your studio. I and Anton were my best friends in my previous life! That's why my soul is very happy to finally meet in this world! I told you that. Thank you again for meeting me through the internet. And thank you for meeting your music again. * I'm using a translation app, so I'm sorry if it turns out to be strange English.
keep on lovlng!
So beautiful and thank you for the sweet harmonies
