Cameron A. Grimes, cello Pei-Yi Ho, organ Happy #HymnFriday 16! I hope you enjoy this rejoicing Easter hymn, “He is Risen, He is Risen!” Thanks to Pei-Yi Ho (organ) for her wonderful collaborative playing, and to Episcopal Church of the Epiphany for the use of the space. Text: 1 Christ is risen, Christ is risen! Tell it with a joyful voice. Christ has burst the three days' prison; Let the whole...
Hymn Friday Episode 15 - Jesus Christ is Risen Today!
มุมมอง 7033 ปีที่แล้ว
Cameron A. Grimes, cello Pei-Yi Ho, organ You didn’t think I’d forgotten Easter did you?! Happy 15th Hymn Friday! In honour of Easter and the celebration of Christ’s glorious resurrection, I chose none other than the 14th century Latin hymn, “Surrexit Christus hodie”, or as it is more commonly known, “Jesus Christ is Risen Today”. This joyous hymn perfectly captivates the triumphant feeling of ...

มุมมอง 1.6K3 ปีที่แล้ว
Cameron A. Grimes, cello Pei-Yi Ho, organ Today is #HymnFriday 10, and for today I selected “The God of Abraham Praise”written by Thomas Olivers. In 1770, Thomas, who was working closely with John Wesley, went and visited to the Great Synagogue in London where he heard the cantor sing the well-known Jewish hymn, “Yigdal”. Interestingly, my cello was made this same year, also in London. Anyway, ...

มุมมอง 9413 ปีที่แล้ว
Cameron A. Grimes, cello Pei-Yi Ho, organ Welcome back to Hymn Friday 7! This week’s hymn, “Alleluia! Sing to Jesus” may be familiar to many of you as “Come Thou Long Expected Jesus”, the much-loved hymn typically used in Protestant churches during the season of Advent. When I listen to and play this hymn, I can’t help but feel glad. Radiant, joyous, gladness. In fact, it’s notes spark a joy in...
Hymn Friday Episode 6 - Deck Thyself, My Soul, With Gladness
มุมมอง 1K3 ปีที่แล้ว
Cameron A. Grimes, cello Pei-Yi Ho, organ Hymn Friday has come again, and this week I’m sharing “Deck thyself, my soul, with gladness”. After reading the hymn’s very moving and poignant text, I chose to offer an interpretation of the melody in a quieter, slightly slower, and perhaps more reflective way than is typically done. Once finished recording, we exited the church to found ourselves in t...

What kind of cello/bow do you have? Very nicely played
Hello! The cello was made in London in 1770 and is from the workshop of Joseph Hill. The bow is a Hill bow and formerly belonged to British cellist, Julian Lloyd Webber. Thank you for your kind words.
