Jamming with Duncan online
Duncan Nicholson and myself trying to get an online collaboration going.
I'm looking a bit worse for wear, this must have been mid lockdown.
Working on arguably the best tune ever composed on the bagpipes.
It's called 'Theid mi Dhachaidh' Meaning. 'I will go Home'

Eriskay

My day trip to Eriskay with Nancy. About the tune: The tune was composed for the 90th birthday of Mairi Mholl MacLean. My late mother in-law was a Maclean and always said all her organs may go but the Maclean heart would beat on relentlessly. When composing the tune my wife said, ''It better have a good beat then'' Thus, I gave it a 2/4 March tempo. I always loved a slow Strathspey.

The Minds in the Shed
มุมมอง 19K11 หลายเดือนก่อน
In late 2023, my old bandmates, Brian McGee and Derek Forbes, along with John Leckie, our first producer with Simple Minds, made the pilgrimage to my home on Vatersay, Barra in the Outer Hebrides of Scotland. It wasn't so much Desert Island Discs as Dessert Island and slipped discs! With the help of a Vatersay Boys drums, (he is now known as Donnie Spielberg) we hobbled our zimmer frames and in...

This is one of many tapes I filmed over the years. What I thought was state of the art gear, was actually quite shite quality. Anyway I have quickly chopped a few clips to see how it works on youtube. See what you think. If its worth spending more time on this?

patched rip-off footage for my wee Paris tune. Taken from my solo double album, People, Places and Things. (in a tin wonderfully designed by my pal John Q.) Im also realy just testing what I can get away with, Pathe footage seems to work. As well as trying out scheduling clips.

Top notch. Are all those sounds coming from the Nord?
Mick = Genius
Just been watching the documentary “Everything is possible”; Mel sums it up: “Mick was (is) a genius”. So true. East is Easter another great example of your extraordinary presence on a track. Thanks for this, great memories
All your hard work, effort, sweat, and tears to make people happy with your music. You all are just amazing.
Love that song so much. Wish I could play like that. Very talented guy Mick ❤️ up on the cat walk was another favourite.

Chills🤗... Always remember this opening the set on the 1989 SFY tour ❤️
Good to hear you play so beautifully, i remember you from the days of the Barnets playing accordion. We went to Bellarmine secondary and my husbands mum Mrs Campbell stayed across the street from your mum, she still lives there at 91 years young.
Thanks for that money Carol
I guess you meant memory lol
Hahaha, ye
@ what number on Lunderston were you?
My in-laws stay at 70 Lunderston. I married Colin no longer with us though. I was in a wee group at Bellarmine and I remember we went to a studio in the city with the "Barnett's" and we sang one year at the school concert which your band also performed at.
I cannot fathom why SM did not continue down this musical path. Producer Trevor Horn caused a lot of damage in my understanding (John & Mel walked out of the sesdions). Ahwhat could have been. This is glorious, introspective at the same moment
oh and I’m not THAT Mark Taylor who took a tour with SM after Mick left.
2:15 transition is such a beautiful transition. Goosebumps for this composer!
Hi mick, just want to ask do you still keep in touch with Charlie ?, and also wanted to thank you for the memory video on Kenny, it was very nice of Dan, brian and you.
Not for a few years, neither of them every really contact me.
What a beautiful melody, so peaceful yet has a harmonic tone to move you, all senses are moved!!!! Superb piece of composition.
Thanks for listening
Absolutely wonderful.
The intensity of this song brings strong emotions to the heart, thanks again for these immense melodies.
Trance As Mission...i love it
grandissimo
Wonderful (in young life)
Great times ❤
Grande Maestro ❤️
Listen Mick - there is me and many others, I'm sure, who would part with their well earned cash to come somewhere to see you playing this, mostly this among other stuff. This piece of music is sensational - it stirs me every time I listen to you play it. C'mon Michael, a wee gig somewhere, please? Thank you for the voice and the eyes - and the memory shine.
AWESOME!!! Thx Guys!
Absolutely stunning piece of music. Beautiful and eclectic.
You are a genius, a brilliant musician, I wish you were back with jim and Charlie, make it happen boys
When true talent shines it shines through you`ve been in the shadows for to long!
You guys shaped my young life. I can’t thank you enough. Probably the best bass player Britain has produced and Micks keyboards were and are some of the best out there. Thanks
Absolutely stunning. A masterpiece by Michael ❤😊❤😊
Brilliant ❤ simple minds will never be the same since you and Mel and the bass player in the sky have gone x
Thank you Mick for your genius - soundtrack to my life..
In reality, simple minds is not what it used to be. There is someone missing and.... : it's You. Big fan, I often immerse myself in listenning to the mythical albums like street fighting years, new gold dream or in the city of light.... God only knows for how long I will be nostalgic ; Maybe until my last breath.. Have a great christmas.. best regards. Jean-Pierre
The signature sound of early Simple Minds, utterly brilliant.
This is my favorite track off SFY album. This keyboard is just magical and incredibly moving
This is amazing. Hope some movie producers get to hear this. Would make for great soundtrack to a series. "Act of love is a luxury, the suit he wears belongs to me.. ."
get it released
hey mick, many thx for unforgettable memories of my life. I saw you and the band live a 5 times from 1985 to 1991 (2 x Munich, Vienna, Innsbruck. Füssen). Its true the band is the half without you. "In the city of light" was my first CD i bought and its until today on of the best live gigs i ever saw, and i saw a lot ;). So thank you again for one of my best times and moments in my live, i wish you the best and may health, joy and Contentment be with you.
Cheers Ray, much appreciate your comments. It was a good sounding live CD, spend a lot of time in the studio getting that sound, lol. And much happiness to you and your faminly. MM x
Awesome sadly they was never the same when magical Mic left
Absolutely sublime 👍
Quite possibly the single most beautiful piece of music in Simple Minds' back catalogue

Grazie Mick!!!!!
Che meraviglia Mick. Grazie❤️❤️
Mick, this makes me happy and sad at the same time. To see what we had with you, and we lost it, never recovered, that is a fact 😢
Such is life Keir.
beautiful song, great musician
This live version was such a great re creation. i can imagine the emotion during the concert. very moving.
@mickmacneil1 Hi from SW France. My mate in Glasgow went to see big Dan’s gig the other night and he mentioned that there are demos of songs from Once Upon a Time with him on bass. Would you have such a thing and could you share? The only thing I have is a bootleg from Barrowlands where you play I Travel as Ghostdancing (Charlie’s sus4 guitar thing). Thanks in advance. And a sincere thanks again for inspiring me to take up the keys.
Un genio!
Do you remember the Wake up Radio system in the eighties ? i remember the first time i heard it. i was litteraly awaken by the song at seven, probably half-dreaming, then hearing the radio DJ saying "this is the new Simple minds song.... Mandela day". Slow paced.. but subtly building up then Charlie s incredible guitar solo !!! I still remember how uplifted i felt that day ! The album wasnt even out.
I’m lucky that i discovered your music from real to real onwards thank you mick for all the memories
The first time I saw Simple Minds was in September 1981 at the Bingley Hall in Stafford the week that 'Sons and Fascination/Sister Feelings Call' was released. Kenny was playing with them then. RIP
Thank you mick for all the brilliant memories
mick please come back with simple minds without you it s not the really simple minds
