For anyone watching this if tou have carbon handlebars a very small amount of torque +/- 4nm will make the ends mushrooms and expand the carbon. Check with manufacturer specs to see if you can install expansion plugs...

Thanks for the tip about putting the cages in first and then clipping in. I hadn’t thought of that and it was fiddly stepping into the cages and tightening while on the bike.
