Caucasian Queen Introduction FAIL

This colony was purchased as a 5 frame Nuc in late April this year and is the first bee hive I have ever owned. Lots of learning going on! On July 2, I split the hive because it had become pretty defensive - bees following me 50 yd and stinging both my husband and myself when we were observing from a good distance away. I bought two Caucasian queens. One for the split, and one for this hive. Th...

As a first year beekeeper, it's definitely a "learn as you go" experience for me. The nuc I got this spring has been extremely productive and the queen was certainly doing her job. In less than three months time, I went from having a 5 frame nuc to having 2 full brood boxes and 2 full honey supers - all FULL of bees - every frame! They just really thrived and did fantastic and continue to reall...

very nicely done. Any updates on the swarm box? what did you use to help plot the lines?
@azartrus the swarm trap did not work this year- I took it down mid summer and then 3 weeks later went to see the bees and they were all gone :( Some suspect they were queenless, some suspect mite issues. Whatever happened to them, was sad not to see them there anymore. As far as plotting the lines, I took a visual bearing and also a photo of the direction they were going. Then I used Google earth to draw a straight line from the bee box to where I figured they were flying to, based on my photo and Google earth image.
Smart idea! Wanna explore stingless bees? www.youtube.com/@SirSamsStinglessBeehive
Did the spider survive? ❤
amazing well done Juli
Well done and congratulations; I’m sure you will catch a swarm too! Good inspiration for the rest of us beekeepers.
@matthewmyers4500 sadly I checked the tree a couple of weeks ago and the entire hive either absconded or died. I noticed over several weeks the number of bees dwindling, so I wonder if it was a queenless swarm that had moved in this spring. Will never know, now. There are still plenty of bees around, so I plan to do some more lining. :)
So you're gonna kill that widow for absolutely no reason. Idiot.
Extremely good job on a very difficult and technical water mark.
Wow! Is this spot way up the holler? Looks like a good place for 'someone' to artifact hunt! Oh, and Danni did great !
Yes, it is up the holler :) Have found some white man artifacts... LOL!
Daddy Longlegs aren't poisonous or venomous.
@StellarSterling01 thank you for the clarification
Yup, it's essentially defenseless.
Harvestmen are not spiders but are arachnids for a few reasons. First they are decapods, meaning they have 10 legs not 8. Second they as opposed to what was believed for a while in that they had non medically significant venom they actually do not possess venom. Which the possession of venom is all but a defining trait in spiders. There is, (I believe) one species of spider that contains no venom. And of course that spider is an orb weaver. Thus having no need for venom as its web does all of the work for it. Not only are they decapods (not octopods) and do not contain venom neither do they possess the ability to create/ spin webs. Yet another defining trait of spiders and a commonality in arachnids. I could be mistaken on some things but I’m pretty sure I’m not. I love Latrodectus (black widows and their relatives) and this video really caught my attention. Thanks for posting and I hope my comment is informative :)
very well done!! Bravo!
That’s a black widow, redback hybrid. My pet black widow had babies a month ago and she also had redback hybrids these are pretty rare. Cool find.
Hybrid how?
Was that spider in your house?
Outside the entrance to the garage. Thankfully!
Oh Juli! I ❤ spiders - especially BLACK WIDOWS!
First pin me 📌
Nice video great recreation of the Bee box for Tom Seeley's design, however in my area I have been told that all honey bees were killed by varoa mites. Were u able to find honey bees where did u look?which flower?
I found them all over clover that had been planted in the fields - they are European honey bees, from what I could tell.
How did you mark the bees? Did you use one of the tubes that we use to mark queens?
Cute
Are they shar pei?

ENS and weight check for the puppies! Just some additional thoughts on ENS and some information for my puppy buyers. ENS was developed to help puppies develop into adult dogs with a stronger cardio system, stronger immunity system, and better response to general stresses . ENS will not make puppies into 'super dogs', it won't prevent behavioral problems, or illness, or injury. In fact there is some skepticism that ENS does anything 'measurable' at all. I have done ENS with all my litters because the way I look at it, it won't hurt anything. It's important that ENS is only done on a healthy and non-stressed litter (ie, mama takes good care of them, etc). I would never do ENS on a litter that seemed stressed. These first two weeks I spend very minimal time with the puppies, except for ENS and ESI. Their mother gives them everything they need and even though she accepts my presence and my handling of the puppies, why should I stress her out? She doesn't want me to mess with the puppies, but she lets me. It still bugs her! What you see as far as responses will vary between puppies and some days a particular puppy might have a stronger reaction than on another day. Don't take too much stock into overall temperament or 'edginess' when you watch these videos.
