I loved how that soldier showed Maximus respect by bowing his head as Maximus walked away from the emperor after taunting him about his family.

I would recommend the audiobook. The movie is a really good adaptation don't get me wrong.

I lost an uncle at the battle of the bulge. There were tens of thousands of men there. Not just air born. I lost and uncle who was a pilot. Another uncle who was captured in the Philippines and walked the bataan death march and suffered a broken neck at the hands of the japs and spent the rest of the war in a fapanese prison cell. Another uncle in the see bees. My dad was a Marine on Saipan and Tinian. An uncle who served in Vietnam and Thailand and retired a chief master Sargeant in the Air Force. Myself and teo brothers served and my sister and her husband. My older brother and his wife retired in the air force.

This is the film's International cut. You should try to watch the US' cut; Steven Spielberg helped with the edition (it is a little bit shorter) and there are some new songs.

As a black man of all people? Even worse. He put Tony in a horrible position. Are the officers wrong? Yeah, but Tony could have gotten in huge trouble if they didn't take the bribe. At this time, you don't stop for a hookup as a gay black man. You're on tour in THE SOUTH. You should know better even if it's wrong that you can't be yourself. I find it unforgivable that Maximus did not become an empreure in the history of Rome. It is convenient to idealize the hero of the reins as the gladiator empreure.

The actor who played Proximus (the Gladiator trainer) was Oliver Reed. He was an extraordinary british actor, with a very interesting, fascinating and atypical life. He also was known for his alcoholism, having some scandals on TV and cinema as a consequence of this. During the filming of Gladiator in 1999, he sadly passed away. He had been sober for months, but one night (during a break from filming the movie) in an Irish pub in Malta, he drank three bottles of Jamaican rum, eight bottles of German beer, numerous double whiskeys and challenged five young English sailors of the Royal Navy to arm-wrestling at The Pub bar (which after this incident was called Ollie's Last Pub). His bill, which was never paid, is preserved in a decorative frame in the bar.
