When the Buffalo Fought the Bull
The buffalo-bull fight really happened on the Texas-Mexico border at the beginning of the twentieth century. There were also fights between bears and lions, elephants and bulls, and one promoter put a bear, a tiger, and a bull in the same cage at the same time. If your anglo-saxons, your British/american blood, think they have a destiny and right to trample under the hooves every black, Indian, and dark browed Mexican that lays in their path, and believe themselves to be the anointed race of the lord, commissioned to drive out the heathen and plant their institutions in every Canaan they can subjugate, let them beware before they stumble upon the “thick bosses and bucklers of the almighty” who have already drank up the blood of the worlds finest conquerors and invaders! Rome thought it was her destiny to conquer and divide nations, she even said as you do now “I will conquer a peace” yet where is the mistress of the world today? It is no honor that we must cover the entire continent when we should have taken care to what we already had. Whoever knows the future fate of this Roman diety , Terminus, so recently taken under the patronage of American democracy, will find his ample curiosity fulfilled in the luminous pages of Edward Gibbons ”decline and fall of the Roman Empire”. -war with mexico reviewed, Abiel Livermore

It seems like the British gave up somewhat fairly easily. I mean, they could've fought a lot harder if they wanted to, to try and keep the colonies under British rule.

The war was impopulair in Britain from the start both with the public and in Parliament. Ultimately the cost was not worth continuing as they also were now at war with almost everyone else. Decades later Britain profited by investing into the fledgling US instead.

Somewhat similar to the guy on the bottom, I've listened to all the lectures up to this point and see that you know your shit with American History, but your interpretation of what socialism and communism is off. Socialism is not government owning means of production, it is workers owning means of production. Communism is also, not government owning all private property, nor is it "a communal" society and no communist/socialist wants scientists to be paid the same as street sweepers. What communism is, at least according to Marxist theory is the development stage that happens after socialism - A stateless, moneyless, classless society. Essentially it's the end goal of Marxism, while socialism is the road to that end goal. This makes the Soviet Union not communist but socialist, and the cold war more about Marxism vs capitalism rather than communism vs capitalism. Even though I think the definitions are wrong I do still appreciate you not making the Soviets look cartoonishly evil and explaining some of the rational behind their decisions in the past two episodes, cheers.

Sonnet to MacArthur's Eyes General MacArthur looked down on the bodies of four young Korean soldiers. 'That's a good sight for my old eyes,' he said. -Newspaper Report I have known old eyes that had seen many more aspects of warfare than this man has seen--- eyes that had looked on Gallipoli or the keen edge of battle with the Boers or in even older war had known Balaclava and the Mutiny's evil score: such eyes as I've known them old have always been eager to see spring flowers and the youth who mean mankind's spring after war's winter. Never before Have I known of anyone whose old eyes rejoice to see young men lying dead in their own land, never have I known one who of his own choice follows up the machines of death to take his stand over the slain and in a quavering voice declaim his joy at youth dead beneath his hand. R.A.K. Mason September, 1950.

I appreciate most of the video but you gave an awful treatment on the theology of Calvinists and the Puritans. Calvinists don't think "you can do whatever you want" at all, and while predestination is a big part of the Calvinist Christian faith - it isn't the core message. The ultimate message is giving total credit and glory to God alone for everything including salvation. This is a WAY better explanation of Puritan life because it explains their subdued, muted lifestyles.

The narrator needs to get his shit together.. He should of edited his presentation.. very unprofessional.. The Bison won.. God damn it! They should have NOT used the animals that already lost to Pierre a few days earlier! That is clearly animal cruelty and Pierre should not have been made to fight again with an injured leg let alone so soon and if at ALL!! Pierre proved himself, let him go back in the wild, or put him to pasture well taken care of. After all the money that was made in his suffering! Bastards! So they sold the bison to the butcher.. SWELL huh?!

100 thousand per day??? That seems high. Buffalo Bill was contracted to supply buffalo meat for the railroad workers and i think his record was 4,000 in a year. Perhaps this was the hunting for pelts that really wiped out the buffalo.

There are bull breeds out there that are bigger than bison whereas the bull used in this contest was smaller. I think even the rodeo bulls that are well bred high dollar ones would be a match since they are bred large and athletic. The auroch of Europe would have been a better match maybe even too much. Also, it would be interesting to see a European bison fight an American. From people that have raised both it seems that the American is slightly heavier but that the European is more agile and meaner. The European bison at one time had a subspecies that was as big or bigger than the American but went extinct not all that long ago and the subspecies that is left is lighter.

Hey I love your lectures. That been said, the description of the Anschluss is off the mark. The election in Austria was after the germans already occupied Austria and happened under heavy nazi supervision. The description of the annexation of chechoslavikia is also off the mark. The sudentland was pretty well defended, and the german army was not yet ready for war. It is highly doubted that the nazis could take over Chechoslovikia at that time if they had the backing of Britain and France.
