I think this is an iconic jazz recording and I am fond of it. The way Cannonball expresses every line with all those colors, the articulation, the swing he gives it, here he is like a fish in the water, a bird in the sky. The joyfulness of him up high is perfectly combined with Sam Jones talking deep down on his double bass, also radiating a fine calmness. Thank you manhood, for bringing also good things to planet earth :)

Sounds like an alto sax rather than a tenor as pictured. Can someone verfy.

This is one of my favorite recordings Stott has done. The tones that Mondelci generates are exquisite to my ears. Sometimes, I thought I was listening to a different instrument.

Without a shadow of a doubt the best recording in the history of mankind.

My all time favourite saxophonist! His tone is so expressive, full and rich at the bottom of the register and at the top ( something not easy on alto sax!). Amazing sense of time, swing, phenomenal articulation, and an infinite musical box of original ideas. Long live Cannonball!!

This is the most impressive thing. It’s not incredibly technically demanding, not nearly as it sounds, but a great challenge for someone who continues to take top in their state for competition and whatnot.

Also obviously the basis for elements of Michael Sambello's "Maniac."

I recall when I first bought this album. Fell in love with Pat Martino, I was shocked that I didn't know about him until this album! Lots of friends would fall asleep on this cut but it kept me awake wanting more!
