Evaluating the Basic Gaits
มุมมอง 2.2K3 ปีที่แล้ว
Before we start looking at the details of a specific horse’s way of moving, we need to take a look at the basic gaits - walk, trot, and canter. In order to be able to evaluate the basic gaits, one must know what they normally look like - in general, but also in the individual horse. Every gait in every horse looks a bit different due to the respective breed, conformation, age, training level, a...

Forward Down Posture
มุมมอง 2223 ปีที่แล้ว
We differentiate between three positions: forward down, working frame and collection. Suppleness is most important at first, so we usually shift between forward down and a working frame during lungeing. Advanced horses can be worked in collection on the lunge but should often get the opportunity to stretch and relax. Read more: www.lungeing.com Many thanks to Nicki Esdorn for translating and na...
Shoulders in Balance
มุมมอง 2113 ปีที่แล้ว
A Course in Lungeing - Balanced shoulders are an important prerequisite for healthy movement on a circle. Every horse has a natural crookedness and is therefore never fully balanced. This crookedness causes the horse to lean into the circle on one hand and move in a tilted position. Through targeted training we help our horses develop balanced shoulders. This is what you get when you purchase t...
Suppleness

This video is so well produced and a great way to look clearly at the movement of horses. However, the walk is NOT a lateral gait. Other than pacers and gaited horses which are unnaturally made to pace, each gait of every horse is a coordination of diagonal pairs. The brain of the horse is actually organised to do this and if you look at the walk again, you can see that as the right fore moves into protraction, the left hind is preparing to leave the ground. This is mirrored by the left diagonal pair (left fore, right hind). This is important to understand when teaching a horse how to carry his axial skeleton with his appendicular one. It is the coordination of the diagonals that allows him to do this in each and every gait, especially on the unnatural athletic figures of circles and straight lines. 7 years at a large equine hospital allowed me to study the education of the equine mind and body and teach horses how to understand and alter their movement to respond to the athletic needs of specific equitations.
