    Aloha🌸! Thank you for SHARING this Awesome review on Training with Longswords. I would like to start a SOLO (no club, no sparring) Fitness Flow body training with a Longsword (Like in this VIDEO: th-cam.com/video/rHrXGO6SYSg/w-d-xo.html ). I want a longsword that does NOT flex that much when I swing, that has a uniform oval hand grip (not rectangular of v shape), that is affordable, almost maintenance FREE, and LONG lasting. I was thinking of the following Synthetic Longswords: 1. Purple Heart Penti III Longsword, 2. Back Fender Longsword LIGHT V4, 3. Black Fender Longsword HEAVY V4. What would you recommend? Thank you Kindly! Take Great care! Namaste🙏

    I have this overlay and found that it did restrict my movements a fair bit, there is too much padding on the shoulders to move freely. However, I took it to a seamstress, and they cut off the bottom of it and it works much better now.

    This isn’t destruction testing at all, real feders from any reputable company can clash with steel weapons with no issues. This thing’s a piece of junk

    • @recordsofaknighterrant53

      Actually, there is less stress placed on a sword when it strikes another sword compared to a sword striking an immovable object such as a tree. When you parry another person using a sword, the opponent's blade moves so the force of the blow is not fully absorbed by your sword, such as it would be if it had to strike an immovable object such as a tree. Even if you bind with another opponent, there is movement in the blades and this distributes the force of the blows between your blades and of course, your own bodies. Contrast to a tree trunk which will give no sway at all so the full force is absorbed by the sword and your body.

      @@recordsofaknighterrant53 This really only applies to bent arm parries using the middle of the blade, a proper parry using the strong will stop a sword dead in it’s tracks. This isn’t even counting counter cuts, which push back with significantly higher acceleration. Regardless, a few minutes swinging at a tree shouldn’t do this type of damage against ANY sword, much less a feder.

    • @recordsofaknighterrant53
      @recordsofaknighterrant53 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      1. On a long sword, especially when wielding with two hands, the "strong" of the blade begins in the middle of the blade. This is because the relationship on what makes the sword blade "strong" has to do with the fact a human is holding it with two hands. 2. I don't know what you mean by "proper parry" versus a "bent arm parry", because a parry using proper biomechanics requires your arms to be bent. In Armizare for example, regardless of whether it is a parry using Breve, Fenestra, etc. If you mean to suggest that a proper parry is one with your arms fully extended, no, that is actually incorrect and can be defeated much easier. Parrying in Longa is weaker than Breve and it is easy to understand this -- just try holding yourself in Longa for as long as you can compared to holding yourself in Breve. Breve is significantly easier to maintain than Longa and this is because Breve has better biomechanics for supporting the sword held in front of you. While you most certainly can parry in Longa, suggesting it's the only way to parry and that Breve is incorrect because your "Arms are bent" is fundamentally untrue and contradicts the biomechanics of longsword fencing. However it is my understanding that some people do not know how to correctly perform Breve, which requires the elbows to be tucked in. Some people do not do this and therefore do not gain the biomechanical benefits of Breve. It's just like how you need to tuck your elbows in toward your body when doing various arm curls in weight lifting, compared to trying to do them with your elbows away from your body. 4. I doubt that a counter cut delivers more stress to a sword than the sword experiences when the wielder strikes an immovable object such as a tree. In fact given a real sharp will have an edge and therefore thinner sections to it, a sword cutting against the tree would damage the blade more, not less, than what this feder experienced. There is a reason axes for felling trees have thickened blades. Swords are not designed to cut trees, they are designed to cut people. 4. Historically, swords were often made with tangs that were not hardened. It was not unusual for blades to bend during warfare and need to be straightened. This had a tactical advantage actually, because it is better for a sword to bend than to break in the midst of battle because a broken sword is less effective as a weapon than a slightly bent sword. Regardless, the vast majority of swords were not used to strike trees and pell training was delivered against a pole which has some sway to it when struck, and therefore is not as strenuous on the blade. While modern steel manufacturing methods make this less necessary for high end swords, this feder is not a high end expensive model. It's meant for starting equipment. So long as the blade can maintain its integrity during the stress test, the tang bending abit is kind of irrelevant, since beginners shouldn't be placing this kind of stress against the feder to begin with.

      @@recordsofaknighterrant53 1) I consider the middle of the blade to be the awkward no-mans land, but fine, a parry using the lower third. 2) No clue what goes on in Armizare, but KDF systems parry from longpoint with the arms straight and the point offline. I also have no clue how good this is biomechanically, but this parry will stop a blade dead in its tracks every single time. Given that German schools prefer German feders, this is a huge detriment on the part of the sword. 3) I don't see what your point is regarding edge thickness and sharps considering this is a feder. A counter cut literally pushes back as you push forward, there is significantly more force involved than an immobile tree. 4) If it were the year 1550, I'd give this thing a lot more slack. Unfortunately for this feder, it's 2021, and there is a wide selection of durable training tools for slightly more, and even slightly less (synthetics). Regarding targets, even IF more forgiving targets were used, people swing significantly harder and for a significantly longer period of time. The damage shown here is unacceptable for mostly gentle swings at a tree for a few minutes. The only thing I can see this being useful for is as a club loaner for light drilling.

    • @recordsofaknighterrant53
      @recordsofaknighterrant53 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      These were not "gentle" blows, that is why the tree suffered a fair amount of damage despite the blade being blunt. Also, you're performing your parries wrong if your arms are in front of you and elbows locked, no matter if it is KdF or not.

    Have you fought in this mask yet? The PBT warrior and Rearguard have some/all of these features. In addition, Wukusi makes a motorcycle helmet mask. Have you compared these? Worn these? It would be interesting to get your opinion

    • @recordsofaknighterrant53
      @recordsofaknighterrant53 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      I have done some sparring in it. I have not used a PBT warrior or Rearguard. I would not use a motorcycle helmet to do this kind of fencing, those helmets are designed for motorcycle accident collision. They aren't designed for a thin edged weapon like sword blows.
