I've not been to the Nusa Dua Beach Hotel. I've noticed that the independent or locally branded hotels are cheaper than the international brands, but I can't say I have a good sense of whether they are worse hotels. I do generally think that you get what you pay for.

I've been to Nusa Beach hotel with family 6 months ago. And going again but Hyatt this time (something different). With Nusa Beach Hotel- we're pretty impressed with their lagoon club room. Our 8y.o. could use the lagoon pool at anytime, just outside the room. Also good for romantic couples, as it was pretty empty for the busy period. We really enjoyed the lagoon suite (club room) perks. Overall? Was ok... wouldn't stay in normal rooms there, that's why the Hyatt grand try this time;)

Not sure how you mean. Star ratings can be weird and often don't mean what people think they do. But Shangri-La BKK seems to be clearly in the 5-star category. Whether is should be considered luxury or premium and whether it's a good hotel are different matters. I actually intend to do some content on star ratings, so interested to hear your thoughts.

Thanks! I appreciate the comment. The Athenee strikes me primarily as a business hotel, both for the location and the feel of the hotel. I'm not likely to stay there again, but I do think there's a certain kind of leisure traveler who might like staying there.

Unfortunately, I don't recall the food prices and I didn't have any spa treatments. But I just checked the web site. The restaurants have their menus online, with prices listed.

@@jrthetourist you can do just as well in my opinion. also i see ur using dji pocket, which one is it 2? i have the new one pocket 3, its incredible. also if i may give u a tip: you need to big time upscale colours in the videos. they are looking grey. yes bkk in offseason or overcast day but editing can help punch it up BIG time

Yes, I've got the pocket 2. I'll upgrade to the 3 eventually. I'll also get some ND filters to help with getting more natural movement. I'm working on figuring out the color correction. I'm not at a point where I want to hire anyone to do it and I'm a bit wary of LUTs. My preference is for more vivid but natural color, so I'm figuring it out.

@@jrthetourist just use in the editing program to punch up the colours etc. Some good preset

As someone with only Golf Bonvoy status, I preferred the Sheraton Grande Sukhumvit. But I've heard the JWM is a great stay with high status.

I've never stayed at The Peninsula, but I did visit with a friend who was staying there. It was a nice room, but the hotel is almost 100 years old and was last renovated ten years ago. It would be hard to compete with Rosewood, opened in 2019, on hard product. That said, The Peninsula is an amazing property and has the heritage. From the consumer prospective, it ultimately comes down to preference.

I can see a case for preferring the JW to the Sheraton Grande, but I don't believe it doesn't come close. They're very comparable properties and much will come down to personal preference.

@@jrthetourist Also Marriot classifies Sheraton under the premium tier while JW is under the Luxury tier

@@warrenx82 I stay at SGS and JW all the time and hard disagree. Yes we know that Sheraton is a tier lower than JW on the brand guide, but that really doesn't apply to the SGS. It is a very known outlier in the Marriott community. Sheraton is more central, it's literally connected to the Asok BTS station. The service is great. The rooms are a little dated. And honestly the bar (which you just barely catch a glimpse of at the end of this video) - Barsu - is one of the nicest bars with live music and awesome staff on Sukhumvit. You'd have to go the whole way to Thong Lor to find something comparable. JW is also nice, but it's different. It's more business oriented. It's filled with a lot more westerners. It's also literally across the street from Nana Plaza which may or may not be your bag. But it's not as central, the bar isn't as nice. JW pros: the rooms are nicer (especially the suites) and the breakfast beats the hell out of SGS breakfast. If you care about the breakfast, you want JW or Marquis, not SGS. But "doesn't even come close to JW" is just not true.

I agree. The location is not ideal. Would be better on one of the nicer stretches of beach down in Nusa Dua proper. That said, I did enjoy my time on the property, especially for the room rate.

No, sorry. I've stayed at the Anantara Siam up the block but never the Renaissance.

Can you bring multiple guests in the room?

Yes. The Shangri-La has some flaws but given the rate and the location, it's a good choice for many.

Thank you! I appreciate your comment. As for vendors, I didn't really see any up by the Conrad. I saw some further south on the main Nusa Dua beach but not a whole lot. I was there in January, after the December busy season, so maybe that's why the vendors were so few.

These lists tend to be PR exercises. They can be a good place to learn about properties, but ultimately I don't believe in completely objective measures of quality (at least not at this level). Once you're in a certain category, fit becomes more important.

Interesting. I admit that this was one of the first hotel videos I made and was mostly concerned with the interiors and amenities. I didn't have any food at the hotel. I'll have to go back and try something.

Hmm. Not sure I agree. The colors have a certain throwback feel; so I guess that accounts for the dated feeling. But the room and the hotel interiors are not very old at all.

Yes, very hot and very humid. But the greenery does have a cooling effect.

I look forward to going back to Nusa Dua and trying the other resorts in the area.
