Everyone is familiar with honeybees. They’re the queen of pollinators. What people may not know is they’re not native to the United States. Rapid growth is threatening their habitat as earth movers scoop them up to make way for ...

I absolutely loved this! I hope you’re able to put wildlife crossings everywhere! I also hope that community that got the wildlife crossings shut down gets educated on the hard situation our wildlife are going through and the game department will be able to get that crossing in place where it’s need most.

My greatest fear is that with the massive public debt that has been built up since 2000, they will suddenly decide to fire sale all of the public lands to private corporations using paying down the debt as an excuse. Then the greatest heritage that exists in America will be lost for ever and our descendants will know the greatness of America.

As a life time native and resident of North Idaho, I find it unfathomable that anyone would resist the installation of wild life over and under passes. During the hard winter of 2006- 07, in just the fifty mile pass-through our county, over 600 deer, elk and moose were killed by vehicles and trains. A significant amount of this would be mitigated by corridors. This would save millions of dollars in vehicle damage and would quickly pay for their cost. The mule deer populations are crashing here but that is mostly due to habitat loss. Mule deer traditionally lived on mountain tops that were routinely burned off by lightning strikes and were open spaces. Now the fires are quickly put out and the mountain tops end up covered in dense timber that is not suitable for habitat. Mule deer are slowly being replaced by white tail deer that are actually an eastern species that came west as the land was cleared and turned over to agriculture. The introduction of white tails has been catastrophic for the moose as they brought diseases that are fatal to moose. Nature will sort it out in the next million years or so, I guess.

It is sad to think that a lot of the old giants went to make kitchen matches. On my private forest I have thinned for white pine as long as I have owned it. In the natural regen, I have found about a 30% resistance in what comes in. Those that get infected are cut down and removed. I now have several trees running 2 to 3foot DBH that are so far blister rust free. I planted some I got from the forest service that are growing well and are rust free.
