I've raised 3. I have 1 adult child and 2 teenagers. This is just my opinion but you shouldn't ever leave your child sleeping like that if it's not necessary ie you're traveling somewhere. This will make your life easier and the baby much more rested; Make a routine and have a set nap time each day and then of course don't try to go out to eat during nap time.

I heard recently babkes and toddlers shouldn't sleep in the car because the position of their neck can cause asphyxia!

Not a parent but a nanny of a kid around your tots age. If youre only after parent's experiences totally disregard this. W my nanny kid we modeled blowing on food and hot drinks to cool it down, learning it when shes not upset. She can now take deep breaths. Other options include immediately stepping outside. If it's too cold i just pick up a blanket and wrap it around her while shes on my hip. Or in super cold weather i put us facing the window inside but covered by the curtain. I dont set her down or anything so no shoes necessary. After like 40 seconds i bring her in. Other options include speaking normal things in my lowest/deepest voice possible. Never yelling, just pretending to have a man voice. These tactics mostly just distract her enough for a second that she passes the peak of the meltdown, then we try her normal soothing stuff (deep breaths, big hugs, being wrapped in a blanket, holding a stuffy, offering her water which also makes her regulate her breathing). I hope you guys find something that works for you!
