    Hey dr. Could you please advice! Can concussion may cause strokes due to blood flow reduction and increase in clotting due to damage in endothelial cells increase clotting factor as repair mechanism ?? incident occured was January 2024 Since I am understanding but having some difficulty making sense/feel while learning after the last hit , actually imma header , l get many mild hits from football but the last hit was little hard and I felt unusual mild headache (rhythmic increasing and decreasing/pulsating headache) and dazed as symptoms!!! then from next day till now 😢 Feeling blank and dazed and difficult in thinking spoken speech like someone says "dog or cat or else.." I know those are a animal in basic definitions, but no sense , what it looks like And, very difficulty ever recalling ( memory) and no emotion (blank feeling) Difficulty in thinking like if I tryna imagine anything simple also , something distorted/disturbing unusual things appears (like scratch lines) or nothing at all (like aphantasia) ---> this happening till now from that day !!!! Did that sleepover give me concussion or something more sinister, (strokes??) since still not recovering !!! 😨😨

      I’m sorry to hear about what you’re going through-it sounds very concerning, and I understand why you’re looking for answers. While a concussion can impact blood flow and neurovascular function, I can’t comment on your specific situation without a proper evaluation. Given the persistent and unusual symptoms you’re describing, it’s important to see a healthcare professional as soon as possible for a full assessment, including imaging if needed. This will help rule out anything more serious and guide you toward the appropriate care. If you’d like further guidance on concussion recovery, I offer Concussion Recovery Consults, which you can learn more about here: www.drheisig.com/appointments. Please prioritize seeing someone locally to ensure you get the care you need.

    Anti-Inflammatory Diet Seriously try and have extra virgin olive oil, fish, chicken, turkey. Avoid processed foods (frozen bags of breaded chicken for example, pizza) Dairy and gluten even eggs can trigger inflammation. This doesn’t mean starving yourself though. Make sure you check you are eating enough calories daily. This should help your gut and therefore your brain to reduce the inflammation build up that comes with concussion and post concussion syndrome; help reduce the symptoms. This probably will not cure your post concussion syndrome but is one big step to helping the problem

    • @drmarkheisig
      @drmarkheisig ชั่วโมงที่ผ่านมา

      Thank you for sharing your perspective-these are some great points about the role of an anti-inflammatory diet in managing concussion and post-concussion syndrome. Nutrition can make a big difference in reducing inflammation and supporting recovery, especially when it comes to gut-brain health. You’re absolutely right that it’s not about starving yourself but fueling your body with the right nutrients. Avoiding processed foods and focusing on whole, nutrient-dense options like olive oil, lean proteins, and anti-inflammatory fats is a great foundation. If you’re looking for more tailored advice or guidance on recovery, I offer Concussion Recovery Consults, where we dive into strategies like this in detail: www.drheisig.com/appointments. Dear Dr.Heisig I have been watching your video. Thanks for the information that you put out. I do appreciate it. I got concussion from boxing sparring about 2 weeks ago. Even though symptoms got better, I still have weird sensation on left side of my head. I feel as if someone put on a rock on my head. I am waiting out to get better. However , I am really scared. Concerns like developing cte or everlasting sensation in my brain is killing me. Any advice for me doc ? Feeling anxious 😟 and worried.

    • @drmarkheisig
      @drmarkheisig ชั่วโมงที่ผ่านมา

      Thank you for your message, and I’m sorry to hear about your concussion-it’s completely normal to feel anxious and worried during recovery. While your symptoms are improving, the lingering sensation you’re describing can be part of the healing process, but it’s important to monitor it closely. It’s understandable to be concerned about long-term effects like CTE, but the good news is that CTE is associated with repeated, severe head trauma over many years. A single concussion, even from sparring, is not likely to lead to that outcome. If the weird sensation or your anxiety persists, I’d recommend getting evaluated by a concussion specialist for reassurance and guidance. I also offer Concussion Recovery Consults to help you navigate recovery and address your specific concerns: www.drheisig.com/appointments. You’re already on the right track by seeking information and taking your recovery seriously. Wishing you a smooth recovery-don’t hesitate to reach out if you need further support!

      I’m sorry to hear you’re dealing with this-it sounds incredibly frustrating, and I completely understand why you’re looking for answers. While BPPV isn’t always linked to head trauma, it’s often caused by tiny crystals in the inner ear shifting out of place. Treatments like repositioning maneuvers can be very effective for relief. If this is something you’d like more help with, I offer Concussion Recovery Consults to provide personalized guidance and support: www.drheisig.com/appointments. @drmarkheisig Hi Dr. Mark. Does CBD help with concussion? I'm on week 8 since I had my concussion and I have been having the tension headaches mainly. I have started to increase my Creatine intake after watching one of your videos regarding that so will see how that goes. Thanks, Barry.

      Hi Barry, great question! CBD has been a popular topic in concussion recovery. While some people report symptom relief, the research is still mixed and not conclusive. I actually covered this in a video back in 2021-feel free to check it out for more context. I’m glad you’re trying creatine, as it has some solid evidence for brain recovery. If tension headaches persist, I’d recommend a more tailored approach. You can explore this further through my Concussion Recovery Consults: www.drheisig.com/appointments. My LH and FSH hormones, specifically, are out of whack. No testosterone. 2 week 5 day cycle sounded the alarm after the concussion. All other labs…perfect. No thyroid issue and all OB exams are clear from issue, she suggested neuro. Me too. HRV issues after concussion. MRI no contrast was clear from neuro which was the fastest doctors appointment of my life. Lmao. The next doctor tried treating with amitriptyline and it amplified everything. Sent my heart rate through the roof. I’m 11 MO in and it feels like I’m in a custody battle with doctors. The symptoms are beyond my understanding and I am at my limits. I haven’t stopped teaching and coaching, but I feel like I’m slowly getting drawn to a stop and it’s coming soon. Any advice to make doctors listen to you? I mean this compassionately; I'm not sure that you know what you're asking. Let's break this down: - Most concussions are from accidental falls and motor vehicle accidents. Of course, that car accident risk is not there if you're not in a car. - Football is a contact sport with a risk of concussion. Of course, if you do not play, that risk is not there. - Football players sustain concussions at rates ranging from 0.5 to 2.5 per 1,000 athlete exposures (AEs). For every 1,000 athlete exposures-whether that’s 1,000 players in one game or one player participating in 1,000 games-the average athlete might sustain 1 to 2 concussions within this range. And that would be the risk of engaging in football. Does that make sense?

    3 months after impact for me. Sub-symptom exercise, especially the stationary bike, made a huge difference. I’m now easing into resistance training but still feel some tension/pressure in my head when lifting-hoping it fades over time. Also couldn’t tolerate coffee until recently. My hack: starting with decaf, gradually adding caffeine and walking 3-6 miles right after. It’s weird but walking somehow gives my head great sensations!

    Yes I think this is kind of like me I’ve had weekly treatment but I have completely neglected my neck exercises because they causes me to get scared when symptoms got a little worse. I didn’t realise just how weak my own neck has gotten because my range of motion had improved due to the massage from my physical therapist working on it each week for months. I’ll try and do daily neck exercises from now on

      It’s great that you’re recognizing the importance of strengthening your neck-consistent exercises can really make a difference in recovery. It’s normal to feel hesitant when symptoms flare up, but progress often comes with small, manageable steps. If you’re looking for more guidance on how to safely build strength and manage your recovery, my Concussion Reset membership offers structured support and resources. if we get our D from the sun, 20 minutes every sunny day (it's sunny more often than not here) is that sufficient? Also recently read that D requires Magnesium to work properly? Thanks! good work!

    • @drmarkheisig
      @drmarkheisig 23 วันที่ผ่านมา

      It depends on where "here" is for you. Sunny doesn't always equal vitamin D in the northern hemisphere at this time of year. Best way to is measure levels occasionally to ensure that whatever you're trying is working. "In latitudes around 40 degrees north or 40 degrees south (Boston is 42 degrees north), there is insufficient UVB radiation available for vitamin D synthesis from November to early March. Ten degrees farther north or south (Edmonton, Canada), the "vitamin D winter" extends from mid-October to mid-March." - lpi.oregonstate.edu/mic/vitamins/vitamin-D#sunlight-sources

      @drmarkheisig 59 นาทีที่ผ่านมา

      Thank you for sharing-what your girlfriend experienced sounds very challenging, and I’m glad she had your support during that time. It’s not uncommon for brain injuries to temporarily impact other systems in the body, including the heart, due to the connection between the brain and the autonomic nervous system. If she’s still recovering or experiencing any lingering effects, it could be helpful to consult with a healthcare provider to ensure everything is on the right track. I also offer Concussion Recovery Consults to help guide recovery and address lingering concerns: www.drheisig.com/appointments. Wishing her continued health and recovery!

    In dirt bikes, the Kalik brand did extensive research. The shape and texture of the helmet is better if it doesn't increase rotation through traction. Round rather than angular, slick vs grippy. The Guardian cap appears to be a device that increases the traction/rotation. The larger the diameter, the greater the rotational force or torque. The Mips slip system shows much promise, but isn't applied in football.

    • @drmarkheisig

      Head impacts are *associated* with TES/CTE, not causal. We can’t define subconcucussion because we can’t even really define concussion objectively. Accuracy of public knowledge of CTE is ~48% (despite this, confidence in knowledge is high). My point? This conversation is a lot more nuanced. 🙏❤️🧠

    Thank you so much for sharing this - super helpful. In your experience, how long does it typically take for patients to achieve 80% of max HR symptoms free? A few weeks, a month, or longer? I’m 2 months post-injury, and I walk daily for 40 minutes at 100 bpm (fog clears), then I do 30 minutes on a stationary bike at 120-125 bpm (symptoms arise slightly but remain manageable).

    • @drmarkheisig

      The data shows (at least in young males) about 13 days. That lines up with my experience across guys and gals - usually 1-2 weeks of structured progressive exercise. Longer in some PCS cases. Definitely longer (and often different approach) with dysautonomia like POTS.
