what street and building is in the first shot?
Great one Peter. It was lovely to go back in time. ❤❤
Love this
How disgusting this city has become with its immigration from incompatible countries. We are now in a complete and utter decline from Western values, morals and way of life. It is truly not acceptable. We are all being forced to change and 'adapt' to a 'new' world. Abhorrent. Perth is unrecognisable from these times, and it has all been by design from Marxist Leftists. Disgusting.
Frank Sparrow probably the best AFL commentator in the nation. One of the most passionate commentators with such a great descriptive vocabulary in commentary.
That picture here is not Judith Durham and Bruce and Keith and Athol at all here Why isn't it them in the picture here to
0:14 bully
lol this video reminded me that those water tricycles used to be a thing, haven't seen one in ages.
Wow Bob Hope! And Cinemas and nightclubs for all ages! Perth the end of the Earth
What’s with the weird map silhouette at the start
Is that Murray street?!
We didn't look like that in Melbourne ! 🤣
I had one of those genuine sandgropers 😢
I grew up in Fremantle in the 80s and loved every minute of it. WAFL football at South Fremantle oval on Saturday was the best times . We’d grab a handful of pass outs at the gate then go out of the ground and sell the tickets for $3 or $4 each to people coming in the game . We’d also get the footballs when they were kicked out of the ground at the northern end and sell them for $10 each . So after making approximately $60 each it was straight to Papa Luigi on Sth Terrace and play pin ball all afternoon. Then eat pizza with the football players after the game Ahh the good old days in Freo as a 10 year old kid. Stay tuned for next chapter as a 17 year old boy
was in Perth for a few days soaking up pints of Rogers and Redback Nothing on this planet tops the drive from SA across the NullaBore Days of driving then seeing Perth from Greenmount Hill Its so surreal after seeing just tiny towns for 2000 clicks Be very warned the cops hate Vic plates, was pulled over 30 times in 6 weeks, glad to exit that Nazi state. Was not stopped once in the following 9 months in any other state and in 40 years of driving just the old booze bus roundups, the New Kwik Kwid Kash Kow
DopeAsOz
It's a lot worse today, we all know why
I got a notification of a reply. I went looking for what i wrote and it seems to have gone. I guess i must have put something derogatory about the boot polish club.
Beautiful place before the indian invasion.
I miss the old Perth so much
1986...I was working at The Floreat, lots of nights out in Pinnochios or the Sail and Anchor, so many great bands to see, coming home to watch great new music on Rage. Driving around in a non air conditioned car with vinyl seats...ouch...Bondy's blimp flying overhead. And then...the grim reaper ads changed the carefree mood
Lol who remembers driving up to King's Park at night looking out for devil worshippers, straight up gen x shit 😂
Yeah they from Armadale 😂
Classic. I even walk down St Georges Terrace. Awesome History. Definitely won't forget this
How are you grandfather? Im gek ima,gus wis daughteg
🎉🎉🎉
I don’t know how the WAFC are allowing this to be a sanctioned premiership point playing WAFL ground.
maybe its looking East down Hay st, you can see the town hall clock in the distance, so the boy that nearly rides over the man is riding North up William St.
Awesome music
Things looked better in 1986.
People actually lived in houses.
Notice how cars have completely decimated the vibrancy and buzz of the inner city.
And urban sprawl. Perth was still pretty vibrant in the 90s. While car played a big part in this, I believe bad land use also played a huge factor.
Spot the one without a hat
Amazing video. Loved it. I was 6 years old in 86. Thanks for uploading
RIP Peter Hale
Downtown looked a lot busier back then even though Perth has nearly 2.4 million more people than in 1908.
Perth in 1908 had more character than it does now in 2024.
20 years before any of my family came there. Interesting to note no motor cars yet on the streets of central Perth and only a few women ( all impeccibly dressed) about.
Now you walk into Fremantle or Perth both are over run by homeless and aborginals, empty shops as well as other thugs and druggies looking for a fight... it is dangerous to go there of a night time... actually the entire state is turning into a sess pool! And they call this progress?
reminds me of Perth drivers today😝
This was before my time as a 90s baby, but I love to see the history of places I know. Some buildings not there anymore, the city is much bigger now. The overall feeling to the video is amazing. It feels like it must have been a great time in the 80s. And no one with technology in their hands - a time gone by. Perth looks so bustling and active in the 80s. Would have loved a chance to experience it - so thank you for sharing this video!
I like the fact that Cottesloe did not even cut the mustard on this video. Back then nobody gave two hoots about it, and the few of us that lived here left to go elsewhere for holidays making the place deserted most of the year. Even the quietest day in Cottesloe is now far more popular than busiest day back then. How I used to love this city with a million, now 3 million and bursting at the seems with sociopathic politicians, developers and all sorts of narcissists destroying every square centimeter of what was such a beautiful and remote place to live. Now the same rat race as all other capital cities.
Not a jacked up Land Cruiser in sight 😅
Dullsville.
oh those hats
Gone downhill big time
I arrived in Perth in 1986. Unfortunately you are 100% correct. Downhill terribly. It’s such a shame. Yes there must be change but it’s been for the worse.
1986 Perth Population 1000,001, Good to see Stuffed Koala technology has improved immensely
Noticed the Alhambra Bars at 1:48 ..... Are they still there?? (they were in the late 60s!)
Sponsored by SpecSavers......bad quality.
Obviously hats were popular back then!
Moved to Cairns from Perth , but it’s so true that the place was the spot to live in the 1980’s .. fantastic. also this organ music is a trip.
