i agree 100%, the one i’ve been playing in the videos is a 2022 reissue model D so not quite original but even that one sounds so much more raw than any emulator i’ve used, i think it makes difference mainly on sounds with lots of high end.

@tyedonavanbeats I've been trying to hear the difference in typical 80's bass patches because two out of three of my moog VSTs really don't produce the luscious tone I can hear in certain early records. You can hear the subtle but unique way the two oscilators chorus/beat. My Minimogue VA sound's great though, but I'm thinking of getting a real moog and don't want to buy a new one if it ends up sounding too neutral or generic

i think part of the 80s sound is the way it was recorded too; a lot of times those oscillators on the real minimoogs were kinda out of tune, there was often some extra buzz in the high end, and they recorded at lower quality, using analog compression to get the most out of that tone. using vintage emulators of compressors and detuning the VCOs gets my emulator a lot closer to the model D I use at work

the new moogs definitely have some of that vintage feel and the buzz is there especially on detuned leads but it doesn’t get all the way there without the processing in my opinion

on the engineering side im a bit of a noob, what do you mean dispersed? i dont use soundgoodizer but definitely using maximus for multiband

i appreciate you letting me know, i have a bad habit of throwing compression / multiband on everything to thicken it up and i knew it was stupid but didn’t know specifically the issue i was creating. i gotta get better about this

@@tyedonavanbeats it's actually not an issue per say, just a natural byproduct of filters. people use disperser/frequency split/allpass filters to thicken up the sound in all kinds of genres.

FL studio doesn’t show them but there’s 2 sounds, the electric piano is a JV-1080 emulator, the acoustic piano is the Giant piano from Kontakt.

thank you for this! i found the bass 1 preset before but i didnt know the synth sounding one was also the dx7, makes sense. i actually had no clue what he used and the minimoog was the closest i got lol i gotta find a dx7 now

still the minimoog, same as the bass. the west coast leads are usually just one or two square / saw waves, i did the pitch bends in post production
